    I shared a cell with Pail Sykes in Armley Prison. I was 18 years old and had heard all the stories, I was very apprehensive. He never gave me a problem. He was nice to me, we played chess, (I always let him win). I remember also, over the years, he always remembered me and said hello.

      Not as simple as that in a street fighter. For example, some boxers who crossover into bare knuckle have lost to fighters who are not on their level with regards to boxing ability. Simply because it is very different than a gloved fight. So a man with a near 10 stone weight advantage, on the street with no gloves and no rules is a scary proposition even for the best boxers because it isn't boxing. Look at lenny McLean not the best boxer but imagine a man of that weight and size and aggression coming at you like a freight train throwing wild haymakers, you have a small window to knock him out or when closes the distance and grabs you you'll be overpowered and can be mauled, elbowed, headbutted. Just like what apparently happened to sykes by that smaller leeds doorman, closed the distance and headbutted him to fuck.

    Never liked Paul but I’ve mentioned before that i went to one of his boxing club nights at Ings road school and he was a totally nice guy at that time, from Lupset myself so remember his presence late 70’s. Anyway this is the only channel i follow ref Sykes cause all the others are just click bait with no research at all, at least you’ve done tireless research, keep doing a great job, Robbo.

    I remember seeing Paul Sykes and the terrible condition he was in, shortly before he passed away. He was in such a tragic state, really ill, totally broken down. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have stayed away from crime and trouble, and, most importantly, out of prison. It just is not glamorous and can practically destroy you.

    • @johnbrooke9948
      @johnbrooke9948 9 місяців тому

      Its not crime and prison that put him in that state it was drink and drugs. Ive known other people go the same way as Paul with a serious alcohol addiction.

    • @danielmoran9902
      @danielmoran9902 9 місяців тому +1

      @@johnbrooke9948 I never attributed his condition solely to crime and imprisonment, I said that I am glad I stayed free of it. It could, however, be argued that drug and alcohol abuse is available in prison, and as such, contributes to an individual's downfall.
      In future, I will make things ultra crystal clear so that you do not become confused, and subsequently make such assumptions.

    • @johnbrooke9948
      @johnbrooke9948 9 місяців тому

      Hang on a minute. You are now contradicting yourself but it does not matter. I suppose ruining the best part of your life in prison would have given him some incentive to drink and take drugs to blank everything out.

    • @danielmoran9902
      @danielmoran9902 9 місяців тому

      @@johnbrooke9948 There is no contradiction whatsoever, in fact my explanation is remarkably clear. You, however, appear to offer an excuse as to why someone would turn to drugs, or drink or whatever crutch was available to justify themselves.

    I grew up in Yorkshire my whole family is from Doncaster it was a rough rough place. My old man went to school with Neil Malpas. I think he was in my uncles year. There are other Yorkshiremen that are very very hard that you would probably never hear about.
    When I watched that footage of him talking to his lads about taking money out of Kaths purse I swear to God I had a flash back of my old man saying almost exactly the same thing word for word to me and my brother. He would say “You’re not talking to ya teachers you’re talking to ME! And I want somet outta ya!” Even the way he tells stories, like the shark stuff my old man was just like that when he was that age. He had the stern look and the moustache as well! 😂

    The thing is about the Sykes rape rumors etc. I think its too easy to dismiss those rumours when you talk to his mates and people that generally admired/liked the man, who as truthful as they may be on 99% of matters kind of have an agenda to protect his reputation the same as you do. See for instance that a lot of these guys also deny that he had any sex with men period, something that I think is accepted by people really doing their homework on the guy. If they didnt know about that what else do they not know about? Are we expected to believe that the man had sex in prison and that these acts were consensual, considering he was a feared dangerous maniac with clout in the system? Did he not act like a complete deviant in his later life in public?
    Dunno. I feel this question takes a bit of a shine off the legend and everyone likes a story about a good honest fighting man.

      Well, the way i see it, as usual theres no smoke without fire, and this guy is his mate, and that screw said Sykes had a gang of mates/ a clique that bullied and raped young offenders!
      They are banged up, no hope of sex and wanking must have got boring for them, they are full of testoserone and need a release, so they take it out on some poor defenseless youngster who was too shit scared to say no or report it! Probably too ashamed too.
      Lets face it, Sykes rep as a feared guy went well ahead of him, so any young con would know of him and already be afraid of him, once he got his dirty hands on them, they probably froze up and got ravaged, no way to defend themselves, especially when a pack of them probably held him down.
      Disgusting fuckers, Sykes died like a sad case, apparently homeless pisshead or whatever, unloved and fully deserved! Karma came for him when he was weak and vunerable!
