A Look at Union Pacific’s New Paint Scheme! UP 8518 Leads I008!

Video Info- On the morning of August 29th, 2022, CSX I008 would make its way southbound with one of a handful of newly painted Union Pacific locomotives. UP 8518 would be wearing the new paint scheme UP released a few weeks back. Due to the large flag on the side apparently being hard to keep clean, the company chose to relocate it in between the unit number, and front cab, replacing it with the original Union Pacific name spelled out. On the front, they removed the wings and enlarged the UP shield. The paint scheme does look a little strange, and I believed the wings on the front looked way better. Either way, it would later come back a second time leading on September, 3rd.

Just so it would stand out even when the newer units eventually get the new paint scheme. ^^

It’s not that bad, but could be better. When I lived out west, it was common at the time to see units wearing the small shield and UP lettering, this is like a bad copy of it.

The size of the shield on the SD70AHs honestly looks ridiculous, the gevos look fine but the AHs are just so bad looking. Great footage and shots regardless!

We are with you. The wings on the nose are just awesome. The only change I would make is to lift the wings just a little. Something like H-D motorcycles. But since they did it I will have to alter some of my HO scale units to match.

Bringing back the text on the hood was a mistake too. It’s always been way too small to balance out the color contrast. Way too much yellow now. And removing the wings was just idiotic.
