- Is a light weight aluminum crank pulley worth it?! Today I install the light weight pulley kit from Z1 motorsports and find out! It looks great, it's affordable and while it wasn't the biggest difference, I do think it made a slight improvement to response.
Here's a link to the kit if you're interested!

Brother I have one on my 2K Maxima for over 20 years and zero issues!
Dang good to know!!
Dude those free revs felt WAY freer lol that was nice! That thing def has a difference
Little something 😎
I have one on my auto G35. Its a small, but definitely noticeable improvement, IMO.
Yea not life changing but noticeable!
I would say your crank pulley is the one thing you WANT weight on because it’s like a damper for your crank. Your crank twists like a spring when combustion happens and if it’s not controlled it can snap under certain rpm’s and load, I’d look at a super damper or fluid damper, but all the other pulleys I’d say are safe to go lightweight
I agree with this to a point. Vqs specifically were designed with really well balanced cranks from factory. It's one of the reasons these engines are rock solid. But it could definetly still cause issues. It would be interesting to see how different pulleys affect the crank on a vq tho!!!
I’ve for sure heard this side of the argument and it makes sense, that’s why I mentioned I’m unsure about longevity at the end of the video. Time will tell if it’s an issue or not!
I’d be worried about it with drifting but not most other motorsports only because it’s high rpm and high load for a long time, plus clutch kicks too, but if you’re willing to risk it and do some experimenting, then I’d say why not lol!
@@BriZee33 I’ll be the Guinea pig and let y’all know if my crank snaps 😂
@@tonycrispindon’t worry the vq crank is plenty strong enough for this pulley mod this has been researched and checked before that rubber really dosent help
Add a few more ground cables from the battery and chassis to engine will definitely help with engine response.
I’ve heard that as well, I was going to add a few when I relocate the battery. Good idea!
I don’t have this installed but I could imagine it does work ,when you go from dual mass to a lightweight flywheel you can tell the huge difference this should be the same
Yea a light weight flywheel is a must, that was one of the first mods I did, makes a huge difference!
@@tonycrispin what’s mods are done to you Z?
@@Chapo-559 basic bolt ons, intake manifold, test pipes and full exhaust. The basics lol
@@tonycrispin don’t play around full mod list with brand included
@@tonycrispin is it a rev up or de ?
Your car sounds so good when you let off throttle I need to get long tube headers or test pipes
Thanks dude! The test pipes made a big difference!
@@tonycrispin question bro is your car tuned?
@@tonycrispinima get Kinetix’s test pipes tomorrow hopefully my car sounds as good as yours when I let of on the gas pedal
@@Chapo-559 It wasn't in this video! it is now
@@tonycrispinquestion did you reuse the same crank pulley bolt or did you buy a new one ?
What can't you install or fix ? I think you can do fix everything from cars to veins. Take care and happy holidays.
Haha that’s part of the fun taking on challenges and figuring it out along the way! Happy holidays to you as well!
Do you already have a lightweight flywheel? I assume your tuner already eliminated any throttle lag. Major "foot" pounds of ugga dugga there. I prefer my Milwaukee impact which has never refused to loosen any bolt but you have to pull the radiator, blah, blah, blah.
This is a valid question... I wondering the same thing.. I've heard you should not use both at the same time
Yea I have a lightweight flywheel!
@@ryanmcburrows8051 Pros and cons but for a drift car mostly pros. Maybe daily driving suffers and you have less inertia when launching but dyno figures show modest gains in HP.
