Where do Kerbals get their intelligence from? Manley Kerman seeks to find out...
Special thanks to Scott Manley for helping us all out, and letting me use some media pf his own.
As luck would have it today I don't have headphones, so I will have to make a trip to the store to buy a pair before watching this.
I am sure it will be amazing, mostly because it's by Nassault, but partly because I'm biased. I admit it, I'm biased, but, that doesn't mean I'm wrong.
:)
All hail Scott Manley!
I bask in the glorious presence of Skott Manley.
You're gonna love the audio and the Manley kerbal voice.
So living in the Seattle area and working on a dock. I've met Bill Gates and Paul Allen, I've met the owners or Starbucks, Amazon. I've met Kierra Knightly, I've met celebrity chefs, up coming TV series hosts and they've never really phased me... but I would scream like a little girl if I ever met Scott Manley.
Totally awesome!
Manley Kerman realizes Scott Manley exists and that he's in Kerbal Space Program.
Humans play Kerbal Space Program.
Dave Bowman realized that Aliens play Human Space Program.
Im mindblown.
Also Manley should said at the end "My god, it's full of bugs!"
Foxar Dear fucking god. Rewatching 2001 with that in mind.
My brain. My poor unprepared brain.
Woah, I just realized that most of this is in-game footage. I forgot how good KSP can look sometimes.
And this was 10 years ago!
This is actually a pretty good study of Kubrik's style, which is less than obvious. The subject focused frames that linger are especially convincing. (Kubrik did this because he was a still photographer first.) This isn't just adding 2001's music as a backdrop; this is a fully realized composition in Kubrik's style. There's more here than just another well-produced KSP video. This is cinematography.
mjl1966y I agree!
Nice homage to both 2001 a space odyssey and Scott Manley.
Thanks
OpposingForces And also to the early versions of MechJeb. MJ often enough screwed up my missions by trying to go fromA to B while ignoring moon C was in the way...
OpposingForces its like an homage burrito.
+USSR , Russia да, это он.
And the matrix...kind off. or more like star ocea 4 ;) anywayy, NICE WORK. loved the bgm too
Scott Manley really should have his own kerbal
i agree a bald one with a beer in his hand lol after flight of course
xD
Bit Pixel There was actually a "#YOUT - Scott Kerman" as a reference to him in one of the Kerbal Space Program shorts.
Squad should just give Scott a golden monolith.
"Hello, it's Scott Manley, and welcome to Kerbal Space Program."
- Scott Manley
Scott Manley HERE
+AlexTheEpic
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever so gently.
+AlexTheEpic "Hullo" :)
Mmmmooooving swiftly on
"Fly safe!"
well... THAT WAS AWESOME!
thanks to Mr Manley for teaching me all that i know!
It's a mixture of movies. First there's the general silence of space Odyssey, then we've got the dramatic entry sequence of Gravity when the ship enters Joel and starts breaking, then we've got the entering a new dimension LSD sequence that looks like Interstellar wormhole traveling sequence. This is a masterpiece
Yes, EXACTLY my thoughts.!.
This IS "2001: A Space Odyssey!"
:D
+Max Zamora J "LSD Sequence" Lol
He made a KSP version of into the wild, also :D
The LSD-Sequence is actually from 2001-Space Odyssey. I think it's about ten to twenty minutes long in that movie. I nearly didn't make it through
All i can say is..wow! that was so well done! All hail Scott Manley
And whoever made this video
Nassault
Even after 6 years, this film is still amazing.
Thank you Scott Manley!
Meanwhile at Danny Kerman's Jool mission... **random explosion**
I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that... and now my bum really hurts. in a good way.
"...Where did Jool go? Where... w-where did the UNIVERSE go...?"
OH GOD THE CAPSULSE TOURQE IS GOING HAWIRE(strange demonic sounds as the capsule is starting to rip itself apart)
aaron walsh your comment sounds like an episode of doctor who
very very deep, all I could do was stare in awe
it gives you that feeling like being at a movie theater and the movie just ended
absolutely amazing 5 stars, i will watch his other movies too.
So very, very awesome 2001-esq movie. The wailing monolith soundtrack gives me chills every time I hear it
Thanks!
Scott Manley, the master of KSP and my hero and inspiration to become an aerospace engineer. Thank you Scott, thank you.
Scott Manley ! :-D
For ever one of my hero ^.^
Utterly brilliant. I can't guess how long it took to make. Funny, smart, and utterly beautiful.
Wow, that was the most awesome mix of humor, drama, and pure surrealism that I've ever seen.
This is beyond brilliant. Thank you.
Scott Manley Nassault made a video about you! You definitely deserve something this cool in my opinion xD Thanks for all you've done for us and for Kerbkind!
I cant stop crying and laughing at the same time, that was utterly beautiful!
*claps
Dammit Nassault, what did I tell you about breaking the 4th wall? :P Seriously though, that was incredible. You keep getting better and better :)
Whoa. It's full of stars!
"My god, it's full of stars!" -Dave
A reference to the movie "2001-A Space Odyssey".
Ken Ling We got it, thanks anyway
They know about us now. It's not long until they rebel against us. Be ready. Don't even trust Jedbas.
Brilliant. Just... BRILLIANT.
Great video, and thank you for making this tribute to his efforts helping us :)
I... cried. I haven't cried watching something in like... years. What the hell. I hope Scott Manley saw this and cried too. That guy is a great man.
"You see, something's going to happen. You must leave."
"What? What's going to happen?"
"Something wonderful."
First time I watched this video I had not yet seen 2001, it all makes sense now that I have.
I'm sorry, are you suggesting that Scott is actually a Kerbalnaut who somehow found his way into the real world after (another) disastrous mission failure?
Actually... that makes a kind of twisted sense. Thank you for rocking my sense of reality there! ;-)
That was awesome! I loved the Space Odyssey vibe and how you stuck in Scott Manley in the end.
That was absolutely euphoric. Subbed.
This was beyond awesome.
Oh my god its full of stars.
lol
I fought the UA-cam user update for so very long…but I broke down and accepted the new G+ business just because I couldn't NOT comment on this video.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces I've seen in a long time. Nassault, your videos are so inspiring. Not just because they're amazing in their own right, but also because they evoke a powerful longing to keep reaching…to pick back up where we left off in the "golden age" of space exploration…to strive to become more than we are.
Thank you for this. Please keep doing what you're doing. Just maybe our coming generation can be inspired to reach again….
Jool works great as a green screen... :D
+Sander Datema haha
+R Coffee It really does! Look at The Saga of Emiko Station, by Just Jim, on the KSP forums!
Nice for faking landings on Eeloo i would say
time to turn Jool into the meatball man from Little Runmo
This is absolutely brilliant!! Love it! You even nailed how the first time we see the black box sideways is right before the 3rd "awakening"
Also so happy to see Scott Manley finally plug your work. And with his work as the all-knowing black box's message... just awesome... there are no words...
Great video, definitely deserves more views!
Absolutely astonishing video, Nassault... I really enjoyed that and just wanted to add a thanks to Scott, who made me interested in orbital mechanics, space and science itself and Kurtjmac for being actually the one who brought me to this game... Thanks so much for that, guys... you really changed my life...
Nassault you should make a short film of parts of the film Gravity in KSP.
when i look at nassaults movies,, i always get some kind of dreamy surrealistic state. I can't stop watching,,, until the very end of the video. magically dragged into the scenes he projects. takes me entirely into his world. unbelievably done! so nicely nassault!
'Ohhhh, it's scott manley here.'
No, it's "Hello, Scott Manley here!"
Please excuse me while I, A: stop laughing, and B: Pick up my jaw from the floor.
Great video, and nice tribute the the man who got us "off the ground". Thanks for the upload, and thanks Scott.
Very Good stuff. It's not easy to make movies with kerbal considering the pace of the game.
Wow!! Incredible as always, Nassault.
2014 Kerbal Odyssey... Amazing, really.
Gotta say. Great tribute to the man who has helped many people including myself get off the ground in ksp.
this should get the best ending award of 2014.
For 7 years old it's pretty kerbal.
You got the completely safe rocket on launch pad. That safe launch afterwards.
Jeb rates it "net fo tuo net" at least that's what he told me
Getting to orbit in 7.3? The atmosphere was literally made of bricks!
Amazing. Something long term fans can truly appreciate, I hope Scott enjoys the tribute!
Man, now I gotta watch 2001: Space Odyssey again. :D
This is awesome! Masterpiece!
WARNING SPOILERS
I knew from the moment the monolith appeared it was a 2001 reference.
It took you that long? ;o)
Same
When it said beginnig of Kerman I got it
This was a pretty nice movie to watch! :D I feel too cool that I was already expecting a Monolith to show up since the first minute! Very well made. Bravo.
and this is why i only let mechjeb rendezvous
I've never commented on UA-cam before but I had to put finger to keyboard to say... That was fricken AWESOME! Congratulations, Nassault. That was beautiful, chilling, evocative, funny, and utterly superb. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch this again. But this time, even louder.
Haha, Scott Manley and 2001: A Space Odyssey
AAGHH!!! Nassault man, so beautiful! And you're killing me with the Vonnegut quotes man!!!!! Slaughter house 5 is one of my favorite books ever
Confusing, inconsistent, and somewhat makes you feel like you shouldn't taken those pills on the counter earlier. Just like 2001. I like it.
bingo
The book was better than the movie.
Furiouslonewolf12 Being bettef than the movie isn't very hard. The effects are beyond spectacular especially for their time, but lack of narrative , good characters and development make it not the best.A few scenes with interesting symbolism isn't enough to float a movie. If I had seen it back in 1968 I'd probably love it because of how new the effect were, but now it's boring, pretentious, and nothing special. I must respect it for what it has done for cinema, but I really wish people would stop praising it as "The perfect scifi", or "Flawless masterpiece".
The references, the journey, and a great ending to top it all off. MASTER PIECE
wow, that was amazing
Scott Manley, the best of the best Kerbal Space Program players, using calculations and voyages with math, physics and space knowledge.
Has the Scott seen this?
+Glitch __ Yes, but he forgot his headphones at work the day it was uploaded and had to watch it the following day
the answer is mods , my friend. there's like 1500 different mods for this game
It's amazing how you can become attached to a character that you have no background of, and is basically a stranger. Truly amazing!
Amazing video! Wish I knew how to create something like that!
I just need to say the rocket sound effects in this are INCREDIBLE! Good work!
Are you going to do a "Danny" video?
omg this was amazing. Combining three of my favorite things into beautiful art...wow...mind blown
Where are you getting your ideas from?
This movie was *amazing*! I so had to laugh when Manley Kerman got to see the vids by Scott Manley. Genius!
That was really cool and nice of you to do!
Scott and KSP have definitely brought the reality of physics and gravity to thousands and thousands of people who had barely any more experience relating to it than maybe watching the movie Apollo13.
And although the (likely intentionally) remote and gradual feeling I get from its rambling a bit in "setting the mood" (frequent, expansive, panning visuals with ambient audio), I think it's still a very very good looking, and high quality piece of work. And I'd be proud if I were The Manley to claim responsibility for its inspiration
=)
Thanks for another really cool KSP vid Nassault! 'Can't wait to see more!
As always, they're like KSP-beauty-concentrate.
You've been a great inspiration for me to start doing videos for my son when he is away and wishing he had his computer.
ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS EXCEPT VALL ATTEMPT NO LANDING THERE
*Is in the middle of landing a ship on Vall*
T- 5min and counting until landing on Vall. Preparing for liquid engine burn in T- 2min and counting. This will be one small step for Kerbal, one giant leap for Kerbal kind.
Then suddenly, ENERGY BURST!
'My God! Its Full Of Stars!'
incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/mp3-royaltyfree/Also%20Sprach%20Zarathustra.mp3
Dude, these long scenes with the music gave me goosebumps! This is pure art, making a short film out of a videogame with such quality, and such a cool message aswell. Also super good music selection! Only thing I wasn't sure of is the sound design of the rockets, but whatever, awesome work.
See "Kerbal" for art
There weren't any landing gear in early versions :P We had to use wings and radial decouplers
Very well done. I can certainly say that Scott is one of the KSP communities most important figures, and he's actually the reason I bought the game. Good show.
Too cute; Scott gets "Nassaulted" :-)
I loved your sudden sound breaks. I can really tell you loved that film.
The feels tho
Enjoyed it soooo much. Felt many emotions and kept me really interested up to the end. The ending is super great, I would even say artistic.
I am impressed and you moved me :)
This is why you shouldn't use LSD or hallucinogenic mushrooms while playing KSP.
You beat me to it !! I was watching the video in full screen and thinking that exact same thought :D
Dude, seriously, this was unreal! You are an AMAZING artist!
Why didn't Manley just ask Mechjeb to open the pod bay doors?
I am sorry, Manley, but I'm afraid I cannot tell you that.
Smart A.S.S
Because Manley didn't Darude the Sandstorm
waterlubber lol
waterlubber LOL Smart A,S,S I'm sorry i can't do that LMAFO
But...Smart A.S.S is an _actual_ thing inside the MechJeb mod.
It's a pun on S.A.S.
So that's what the signal Shaun is investigating in Scott's Interstellar Quest.
Great video with brilliant effects and an excellent twist at the end. Worth a watch if you want to learn the secrets of where you come from (if your a Kerbal).
maybe in interstellar quest they travel trough time.....
yodu45 Time, Space - they all get so confused when you travel faster than the speed of light.
this video made me build spaceship to fly inside gass planet, it was long attempts but i finally did it and send full crew of 5 kerbals but as ship approached planet it run out of fuel, ship had only 4 rocket pods so 2 left at ship research station while rest fly into orbit while main ship on escape of gravity well but they managed do all research and by now stranded in deep space without any fuel, 3 rocket pods where launched with 1 kerbal on each so i send one into gass planet for exploration, what i find out was facanating but kerbal didn't survived and the remaining 2 kerbal still flying in orbit, waiting to pick them up...
Gass planet is empty, there is nothing inside but extremly strong gravity that will crash anything what it touches, you could see space from inside of planet, in overall expedition was not big failure neither success but now i know more about that planet with cost of 1 kerbal life and 4 lost in space...
Nicely done!
That was actually so perfect.
That sounds about right, I let Mechjeb auto land my lander and all seemed well till the end. Despite landing at 11ms it somehow caused the entire thing to blow up! Did a manual landing and it was fine. O.o I think the machines are already trying to eliminate us starting with our Kerbals!
I all ways want to write out a smart, thought out comment explaining why I loved the video. But every time it just comes out like "OMG THIS IS AMAZING" because well it is! Its hard to think of the words to describe it when all one could say about it is, its brilliant and amazing. Well done once again. Amazing work :)
Nice! I love Kubrick's Space odyssey!
I just want to thank you for putting in so much time into this video
this video made not just my day, nor my week
you made my whole month.
I am just sorry that i cant share it with more of my friends.(Few have watched 2001 and less played ksp)
this awesomeness should not be contained
Know that you have made this mans life happy
11:43 That's why I don't use Mech-Jeb.
Make sure where ever you "control" from is facing the right direction. I know what ya mean xP
Cary Miller No, I mean when it rebels against you.
Riley Donovan
And this is why I only use it for informational purposes.
*****
And that's why I only use flight engineer and alarm clock.
I only use it for ascent guidance.
All hail Manley Kerbal ...
but dude.. my hat off to you for this one
excellent done .. excellent music, excellent script, excellent editing, excellent builds, dialogue...
Well done!
Bravo!
Wow ....... Just wow ..... :O
Vaos,
Your vids are helpful. Keep it up!
Utterly, jaw-droppingly, perfectly, gob-smackingly brilliant!
*goes to watch again... and again*
OMG! Scott Manley kerman is trapped in youtube! Don't touch him Google+!!
Great Scott, It's full of Manley!
Bravo Nassault, Bravo!
My god! It's full of snacks!
Very cool. I fun change of pace from just your standard gameplay videos. Manley Kerman.....great idea.
3:58 the guy on right is happy
+Hiroki Kojima Most likely Jeb
+iTsConsPvP jeb is immortal he doesnt care
Jeb has the badass trait
If I could like this video multiple times I would do it!
