Macgregor brings back great golf memories ! I started playing in the late ‘50s at 12 years of age ! Persimmon driver, steel spikes etc. Great times indeed !
I too was a Macgregor boy growing up but my clubs were about 35 years older than those beautiful V foils. I had the standard Tourney irons. They were pretty good but I really wanted Pings ! Thanks for another really fun video. Ash has improved a lot !
The Goodwill near for doesn’t usually have great golf clubs but yesterday they did. Unfortunately I was 5 minutes too late. A guy found a Titleist driver and 3 wood practically new. He left me a Taylormade Burner hybrid 4 iron for $3.50. Better than nothing. Hopefully I start finding more and more clubs like you guys.

I have the clubs that I dreamed of owning....a set of Wilson Staff irons! When I first started playing golf, I would go to my local KMART which was less than a half a mile from my house...and at a little over $400 for a set...it seemed like a million dollars! I have played with them many times, and played in a few amateur tournaments... and actually played a little better than I did with my Lynx Black Cat irons. I think because I concentrated more on my swing with them...they are true blades.

When I was in high school, I coveted my uncle’s BeCu Eye 2 irons. I finally got a near perfect set last year. They were everything I had hoped them to be. Great video guys.
My high school clubs were Dunlop Tour 2400 Plus from Wal*Mart. I still have them and the entire set is worth negative dollars. I always wondered what Ping Eye 2 BeCu must have been like, so now that's what I own, 30 years later. I didn't golf between 1995-2018 and I pretty much play the same bogey golf I ever did. I used to be better at chipping and putting and now I'm better at hitting straight shots with woods and irons (I figured out how english works on pool balls during college and realized my 'correcting' for slices just made them worse when I was in high school.) I was in high school in rural Iowa and the internet didn't exist, so I had no way to learn other than trial and error haha. I watch your channel as a way to chill out. Whatever formula you guys bring to the table with the hunt and the subsequent golfing at the end is the same effect on my brain as eating a sleeve of Oreos with milk, guilt-free. Also just seeing two people genuinely get along so well together is just what my anxiety needs at the end of the day.
I always wanted the Cleveland Hi-Bore back in high school! Although my Nike SQ Sumo was also a highly-coveted club. Ashley’s iron game is getting so much better! That tee shot on the last par 3 was great!
The set I always wanted was the King Cobra 2s. When I was 22 I finally bought myself a set. That was the best I ever played. I was down to a 1.8 handicap with them and held that for almost 3 years. Would love to find another full set for old times sake. Nice find for you John. Keep up the fun and good content.
great find on the Macgregor set, I played the VIP Tourney combo set for years and finally went with a set of R7 TP's , ended up donating the Macgregors to the first tee junior golf program but I wish I still had them. Still have M5K and a M6.4K putters which I loved. Upgraded this year to Srixon ZX5 set and EXO 7 putter. Ash has been hitting it really nice as of late.
You guys do such a good job of making thrifting and golf seem fun and approachable. It's nice to be able to relate to the joys of finding gems in a store and hitting different gear for the fun of it, not just worrying about 3 putts and long drives. Love and appreciate all the content you two create, it's truly awesome. I'll be out by Orlando/Disney area, any recommendations for best flea market/golf shops for picking up golf gear? going to try and buy a set to play with while I"m there then donate back.
I still remember when the shop at my local golf club got the first Hippo giant driver in. My lord it was MASSIVE compared to anything else I had ever seen! The problem was that the price tag was also just as massive. Went in to just look at it before every round 😅

I have a set of V-Foil 1025M irons which are almost mint and beyond beautiful. Probably the best looking iron MacGregor ever made. But I'm currently playing with some Hogan Icon irons, which are also crazy beautiful and buttery soft. I simply could not resist the Hogans, being the last blade they produced before folding up shop. Just a crying shame they went out of business.

I wanted the Ping Zing 2 Irons when I was a kid. I just couldn't afford them back then. The heads look like a oversized tennis racquet. The JZ Shafts are too heavy and stiff for me now that I can afford them. Thanks for posting this great video. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🇯🇲

I learn so much about clubs from your channel. It's nice to see some clubs that are not known as "premium" clubs being hit on the course. My first set were Dunlops. I played with them for 10 years. They were awful....
It's such a shame that the MacGregor company has pretty much gone away! It looks like you really had fun with those ones. I've found a couple of old Mac persimmon woods recently and am waiting patiently for warmer weather in order to get them out on the range.
It's the thrill of the hunt and what's around the next driveway. It's been too long since I went garage sale hunting for bargains. I actually bought a washing machine for a quarter and fixed it with a bolt from the junk jar.
I would have to say my dream clubs would be anything Titleist because they are like the best clubs in my opinion and buying the DCI set I have completed that dream and then I have my top flites that I play with as well,I completed my dci set for $130,$90 for the irons and $40 for the matching 1-3-5 woods and sand wedge
