Great stuff Mike. As a separations artist, these tools should be touted.

Thanks Rick! I find it's these little things that so many new designers don't know about. You do colour separations for a living? I would have loved to work in an actual print shop to gain that experience.

@@MikePickettDesignCo I have worked in a lot of interesting and varying positions, currently in a marketing department for a screen printing company after doing color separations for another. I have been designing and printing for about 14 years in one form or another.

Great tips Mike. If you do this a lot, especially creating more advanced artwork and multiple pieces or more complex art, consider AstuteGraphics - the VectorFirstAid tool not only does this in a single click, it also cleans out unneeded swatches, symbols and styles. It also repairs broken parts of the image. Especially useful for when you receive bad artwork from clients and other vector sources. So when you look at a $99 outlay, think about how much time you waste performing these repetitive tasks - plus that’s only one tool out of the suite of 19, some of which help. You create tidier artwork in the first place. Watch out for the Black Friday deals. That’s $0.30 a day to be a more efficient designer.

Thanks Dave! Astute is on my list - I actually want to get it and then do a series of videos about it. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for the Black Friday deals, $99 right now is a little out of range for me but it there's a sale I might be able to convince my bank account that it's a must have.

Minimal anchor points has been a “thing” on my artboards since some of my very first pieces...

Always the best way to work. There's other methods for keeping your points to a minimum but this is my "final check" before things go off to the client!
