    What a great place Kat. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself 😎

    You totally voiced my whole experience with surfing. Don’t beat yourself up, I hyper-criticise and over-analyse everything - you did fantastic.

    I mean, even your "ugly" attempts were better than most of mine 😂
    I tried the intermediate for the first time yesterday and it beat the hell out of me. So much harder than the waikiki. And so much paddling!
    Thanks for the video though. Very helpful tips from Markus too 👌

    ahhh i so feel your pain with this, i had surf coaching today and i felt so dis-heartened and like i didn't get anything out of my session. but there are times when i have great sessions and feel so motivated. but times like this i just feel like i want to cry! haha, you caught some sick waves, well done xx

      Awh I know, sorry you felt similar! I guess a new environment and the added pressure. Maybe if we go again we will get the hang of it better. I’ve had a blast the last couple of weeks surfing in the ocean, keep going! Xxx

    Nice video, and you caught a couple of good ones :-)
    I've been to The Wave quite a few times now on the Waikiki wave which is great for my level of skill.
    The first time you try it, it's pretty different to being out on the sea, so you need to get used to its foibles, but within a couple of sessions you get it hooked up and it's great for practicing, because it's totally consistent every time and that really lets you concentrate on your technique.
    Hope you get back there and have a great time!

      Heya, thank you. I agree I hope that the next time I go I’ll feel less pressured and know what I’m doing like you say and get the feel back. I shall do, thanks for watching!

    I had a similar experience actually! The Take off next to the wall threw me off a bit 😅
    I think if it was a bit cheaper for a session then there wouldn't be so much pressure on each wave maybe...

    Don't be disheartened, there is a manufactured pressure and it's a completely different start of a wave to nature, you looked good on the ones you caught, focus on that 👌🤙

      Awh thanks!! Yeah it’s deffo one to get used to, by the time I got it I was exhausted ha. I shall do thanks for watching 😊😊😊

    That was a great video! I also thought as others have already posted that your rides looked very good! I can imagine that I‘d feel a lot of
    pressure riding there for the first time, I‘d probably feel the way you did. I‘m looking forward to try it once but I‘ll take your advice and book two sessions in a day to really have time to get used to it.
    I didn‘t understand properly what you said at the end about cancelling yourself? I hope you‘ll keep on making videos!

    • @KathrynChalk
      @KathrynChalk  2 роки тому +1

      I think that’s it, the pressure, feeling rushed and just getting used to it all tbh. Hopefully next time I’ll understand it better. Yes take my day as a pinch of salt as Markus had a blastttttt. Oh haha, last video for a while as I’ve finally got my dream training job so putting everything into that! Xxx

    Actually seemed like you got some really nice rides! Any new spot is tricky and takes some getting used to. I think the pressure of knowing you've got a limited time or number of waves would get to me - not the vibe I like about surfing. Looked like you had fun which is the real point after all! Couldn't figure what's up at the end but hope all is well and wish you the best regardless!

      Awh thanks Jim, started a new job training as a meteorologist so it’s full on study and no time to edit really. But yes it’s deffo the added pressure. Keep well!

    You did well, I surf Snowdonia wave pool, and just could get in the right position and was told lots of times to move over. Found it stressfully. Much prefer the ocean.

    My last visit to The Wave was an intermidiot session and coincidentally (or perhaps not), I got 2 good rides out of it too. Watching your clips, good, bad and ugly, it was like you were documenting my experience exactly. Pretty well every mistake you made or tricky spot you ended up in, I thought, "Yeah yeah, I did that, I was there, that happened to me." Thank you SO much for posting this as it is exactly the clip I needed to understand how to modify my approach next time - so now I can't wait to get back there and try! Hope you enjoy your next ride!!

    I hope on reflection you aren’t so hard on yourself . The rides you got , you looked really great, maybe try and stand in the middle of the board more , you’ll work up a lot more speed , I was doing the same ! . I love your friend Erika’s style ( hope I spelt her name right) and Marcus ripped it up . This video was very helpful to me . I’ve got a session booked for November

      Awh nope I felt better re watching most of the footage and calmed down a bit haha, I think the nerves and I just rushed. Had some perfect waves here in Bournemouth lately so I’m happy. I hope it goes well for you, and thank you! New job is intense so not anytime soooooon I’m afraid xx

    Hi Kat, great video of you guys. do you mind me asking what size boards you all are using? I’m going to rent one next week and I’m unsure. I currently use a 7’6. Thank you

    • @KathrynChalk
      @KathrynChalk  2 роки тому

      Heya, mine was my 8ft, Markus was shorter.. 7,4 I think 🤔 and Erika’s was a longboard. I’d stick to what you know if you can 😊
