Since I haven't seen it mentioned yet, the song "Don't Be a Jerk, It's Christmas" was written by Tom Kenny himself! Between voicing SpongeBob, playing Patchy the Pirate and writing songs for specials, he's a super talented guy.
Fun fact: The reason why this episode was stop motion was because the producers of SpongeBob were trying to parody Rankin/Bass’s stop motion ani-magic specials from the 1960s to 1980s. These SpongeBob Stop-Motion specials are really funny in my opinion!

*I think the fruit cake pieces are either so hot they warmed up its mechanism, or they're filled with hatred. And the **_'RoboSponge'_** is just too bad itself, so it cracked.*
This SpongeBob special actually first aired in CBS as part of their yearly Christmas marathon, believe it or not this aired alongside classics as the 60s claymation Christmas special Rudolph the red nose reindeer and It’s a Charlie Christmas!
I like John Goodman voicing Santa Claus at the end. It's funny, cause I'm pretty sure he also voiced robot Santa from Futurama. Now you don't want to run into robot Santa.
Mr Lawrence is also a writer to this day. And he also storyboarded a few episodes. He's the guy who dropped the pencil on the doodlebob episode. He's very talented.
I love the Rankin Bass stop motion reference at the beginning with Patchy being the mailman. I think they might be referencing Santa Claus is Coming to Town? I wonder if any little kids ever caught on to that.
I think Tom Kenny's performance in don't ne a jeep is easily one of his best. Singing in character us hard enough but to do it beautifully is a whole other thing
Apparently after "Spongebobs big birthday blowout." he's only made animated appearances since. I think I heard somewhere it's because Tom Kenny thinks he's simply too old to pull off the live action version of patchy anymore. Kinda sucks tbh, too me at least, he doesn't look like he aged much, and if anything they probably could've used another actor and just had Tom dub over the lines. But I kinda get why they went the animated route with him.
Obviously, the producers were inspired by the Rankin/Bass specials like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa is Coming To Town, and The Year Without a Santa Claus
Compared to the angelic choir singing the theme for S2, this one had children singing it. Spongebob was not shown wearing a water helmet in Sandy's Treedome. Mr Krabs was in the Halloween one - he and Plankton made haunted houses of each other's restaurants. There is a video separating each instrument and vocal in the theme song. Patchy takes note of the flat tire and suggests we make cocoa while Potty makes a fire. After commercial, Patchy laments not having food for 20 minutes, and hallucinated his parrot as Buffalo wings, and then Potty saw Patchy as birdseed. I can agree about the staff looking off. Spongebob did a bit in A flat before singing the full song in A natural before the key change. I see a few sharped notes, but I'm not sure what key would best fit. The song's a major at least... It closed off with Patchy seeing Santa's Workshop in a cave, and he asked to meet SpongeBob. Only for it to be a hallucination, there was actually a polar bear in the cave, and Santa wrote him up for stealing a mail truck.
Compared to many of other episodes from this season, the characters are actually pretty normal, especially SpongeBob. I mean this special wasn’t even written by the SpongeBob writers. The founders of the claymation company that was behind the production were the writers.
Sandy: "You're an idiot." SpongeBob, smiling like an idiot. "Uh-huh." So, so far there has been two stop motion SpongeBob specials. Both holiday themed. For some reason, in this one and the Halloween stop motion, they don't give SpongeBob a sea helmet in Sandy's treedome.
Merry Christmas, Brandon. This episode is amazing. BTW Santa is voiced by Ed Asner (Rest in Peace) who also voiced Santa in the Christmas episode of Regular Show one of my favorite Cartoon Network shows ever
A nice fact about the song in this episode, it was first shown in a lego made animation years before the episode was made. Its another great iconic spongebob song
8:15 If I saw a scrappy looking doll of Santa Claus floating around with his face against the security monitor (which I didn't even turn on), I would be a little befuddled as well. 8:35 After seeing you video about Ned's April Fools Day episode, I've learned that you think practical jokes are the same as evil jokes. Merry Christmas, Principal Brandon! All I want for Christmas is for you to have lots of new subscribers and lots of well-behaved students.
I never understood why Santa never knew that Plankton was the one behind the jerktonium when he supposedly “had his jolly little eyes on him and sees everything he’s done every plot plan and scheme” 🤷♂️🤔
Imagine if Krampus visited Bikini Bottom...there wouldn't be any part of the seven seas where Plankton could hide, if he found out about his naughty actions
@@lukesmith720 John Goodman makes for a good Santa in a Christmas special. But he also plays Santa in another Christmas special, I can't say what, though.
Hi, I couple of times I told you I was working on a book that deals with bullying. I just self-published it, it is called “Shadow Protection: Morty the Shorty”. I was hoping you can give my book a shout-out to your viewers or to your school. There are also some things about the book you might like: The book is illustrated. There is a nickelodeon reference at one point in the book. The main character owns a musical instrument (you might like this since you used to be a music teacher). 30:43 Laser-Guided Karma for Plankton THIS Christmas! WHEN Will Plankton FINALLY Have A Happy Christmas That DOESN’T Involve The Krabby Patty Formula?!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! This is one of my favorite SpongeBob episodes ever, mostly because of nostalgia, but I just love season 8. I have gone on about this and yapped endlessly multiple times, probably even done it here, but season 8 just has the coolest plot-lines and has some of the greatest background score (some original and some licensed) and songs (Don’t Be A Jerk is one of them). I understand the characters can feel flanderized a bit, but I believe it’s an improvement over some previous (seasons 5-7) and even 10+ (also season 9 is also one of my favorite seasons). Season 8 does tend to get pretty dark and goofy, but I see that as another strength, that it at least tries to, it falls flat with some episodes endings’ that if implemented some lighthearted “talking things through” (idk, I will call it that), those episodes would’ve been better (for example: demolition doofus, which you have seen, just ended abruptly) I guess this is understandable because they had 2 years make 42 segments that are 11 minutes, and 5 specials lasting 22 minutes. Also, the 2nd spongebob movie probably started production around the end of it. I could go on about how much I love the season, but that’s the problem. I always yap whenever I bring up this season.?Anyways, I hope you are having a fantastic Christmas!! 🎄
If you ever do watch Bob's Burgers, I suggest watching "Thelma & Louise except Thelma is Linda" from season 7. It's about one of the kids getting In School Suspension, and the guidance counselor Mr. Frond kind of acts as the principal in the show.
Yeah this episode is definitely a little different - the stop motion takes some getting used to, especailly since it's so out of the ordinary for Spongebob! Have a great Christmas day tomorrow 😊 thank you as always for continuing these reactions
It's been a while since I watched this one. Merry Christmas Eve. I'm thankful i found your channel this year and subscribed it was well worth it. Albeit only in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe, the element Jerktonium gives the periodic table a "J".
Obviously, the producers were inspired by the Rankin/Bass specials like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa is Coming To Town, and The Year Without a Santa Claus
Sandy is a scientist/inventor/researcher so that's probably why she could identify the jerktonium contamination
It was funny 🤣🤣🤣 in the end when Patchy went into the cave and got chased by that polar bear 🐻❄️
It was karma because stealing a mail truck definitely counts as naughty
