    FAQ's
Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. Whats wrong?
A: If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.
Q: The Hinge Clips came off with the Key Cap. What do I do?
A: Because they key can usually not be reinstalled with the Retainer Clip and the Key Cap still attached to each other, you would have to separate them as seen here, using a small flat pry tool.
Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?
A: If any component of the key assembly is broken, it would have to be replaced. I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?
A: This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; • How To Fix Troubleshoo... .
Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.
Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
A: There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

    Thanks for the fantastic video.
I had a problem with unreliable key presses on some keys. Sometimes the key press did not register unless pressed dead centre and with pressure.
I removed the key cap, rubber button and white plastic retainer clip and using your method.
Underneath I found small dirt particles which were causing the problem.
I brushed the socket clean with a toothbrush.
    This solved the problem.

I have a Dell XPS 13 7390 2N1 and when I pop off the key it has a different mounting mechanism underneath the key than shown in this video. There are 2 separate little pieces under the key. They are more difficult to work with than the type of mounting shown in this video.

Not all keys are the same. This key shown here has a retainer clip that does come apart in two. It should still be basically the same.

There are not electronic components in most key assemblies. Replacing key components will only 'fix' your key if those components are physically damaged and need to be replaced which is what this video is a tutorial of. Your keys are unreliable? You can post a video to your own channel and then message me back here. I can then view it and advise further.
Just so you know, liquid spill situations can be hard to troubleshoot just one issue as multiple different components and boards including the motherboard itself, could all be faulty.
After a liquid spill, you want to first make sure the computer is 100% dry. You would turn your computer off immediately by pressing and holding the power button until the computer turns off. Then you would disassemble the computer as much as your comfortable with, at least trying to remove the bottom case. Then you would turn it on its side and let dry for a couple days. Have you done this yet or are you sure the computer is dry?

Thank you for your help taking the key and clip apart safely!
My issue was that the white clip was sticking to the key and not snapping in place. After taking the key off I saw that the metal pin on the bottom left was rotated slightly counterclockwise compared to the pin on the upper left. I use my flathead to bend it to roughly match the upper pin, and the clip was then able to snap in place. I'm now able to use the key normally.
This almost certainly happened because I pressed the key too hard and very often. In retrospect, my attempts to snap it back in place by pushing down on it really hard only made it worse.

For dell xps 15 when I press down harder on a particular key it sometimes makes a "crack" or "popping" sound and it feels as if there is a loose object being crushed between the key and the underneath surface when pressed. Would this most likely be due to a damaged retainer clip or another component such as the rubber component in the center?

Great video, appreciate you walking through the steps. I'm still having trouble getting the outer key back on unfortunately. One thing that was different was that when I removed the key the plastic thing that's also removed came apart as two separate pieces. I thought it broke since I didn't see it in the video, but I noticed there is a small notch half way up both sides of the larger piece where the smaller center piece can be inserted. I think I inserted it correctly based on removing & inspecting another key, and also based on the fact that the plastic snapped into place as you showed. But yeah, when I put the key in the center and press down it just doesn't click or anything.
