Seriously. I feel like this movie centers the brutal hardships of Jimmy's life. As narrated he is the heart of the family. Unfortunately he followed Chucho's footsteps which landed him in prison and ultimately alienate him from his son.
It was Chucho's death that messed Jimmy up. He manifests it by his wife's death, alienation from his son, clearly he followed Chucho's foot steps and became like him, but Jimmy eventually shaped up in the end no matter how much he loved Chucho.

Her family and ours all get along great! They're not racist or ignorant towards us or any other race. But there are a lot of people ( and not just whites) that just can't understand the struggles and sacrifices of the Latino race.
I see many comments hiding behind skin color, their's or others. Be better than that. Stand up and be a human being. We bleed the same color and each have a soul. Why isn't that enough for you? Why do you hide?

My father had this kind of upbringing, in the same nieghborhood in this movie. Funny thing too is, that he also had a brother named Jimmy.
