What is your thoughts on the RS-25 Rocket Engine? A new RS-25 Rocket engine is estimated to cost 146 million dollars according to a recent report. It is also important to note that the 452 seconds of specific impulse is in a vacuum and the specific impulse at sea level is about 366 seconds for the RS-25 rocket engine.
It is extremely expensive for a (currently) expendable engine. It feels like Nasa should’ve invent a new rocket engine, instead of using ~50 year old technology for it.
Fun Fact: The refurbishment after every flight was largly a safety measure. Recent tests of the RS-25, for SLS, demonstrated that they couldve been used 10+ times without refurbishment. An excellent, if under appreciated, design.
Ok so, the core stage is quite literally brand new, not even close to a redesign from the shuttle external tanks, the engine even tho they have flown on the shuttle, that will only be the case for the first four missions, as they are building brand new engines (simpler to manufacture and modernized) for future missions
Hi, I'm an aeronautical engineer and I looking for an speaker for a webinar, subject, rocket engines. If you are able to help us, I will give more details. Thanks
Thank you for watching the video! The RS-25 is very expensive and is outdated now in the year 2022, especially compared to rockets engines such as the SpaceX Raptor engine. Make sure to like and subscribe, since I will be making more videos like this one.
Straight up wrong. The rs-25 is still easily the most advanced rocket engine in the world, capable of self pressurizing its oxidizer and fuel tank by using a combination of staged combustion fuel rich cycle to power the main pumps and an expander bleed to power the low pressure pumps. Also, 1 trick pony?? Have you heard of the ar-22?? 10 test in 10 days with minimal refurbishment, you might be thinking "ohh but thats the ar-22, not the rs-25!!11", the ar-22 was literally built from leftover rs-25 parts
@@tutorials1978 Hydrogen is a thing of the past. Shuttle and SLS are showing the countless problens with it. If Starship becomes operational, nobody can afford such old Dinosaur engines, espacially if the Rocket is not reusable. Times have changed.

The weather
Engine soo expensive and complex NASA have to scavage the museum to put it in their SLS rocket

@deanos32 takes a long time for a new design to get certified for a human pay load so they went with the design that already works
Community: let’s stick rs-25 to an f1 car
Ahh yes good ol black ops theme on a NASA video. Subbed.
This looks like the engine that’s in the back of Futurama spaceship

nope. wrong.
@@6desk source?
Wish they would launch Artemis already
73:1 thrust ratio “decent” 😂🤣🤣
So they took off the space shuttle and called it the SLS, im gettin’ iPhone 13 & 14 vibes…

Awesome
It is awesome that you have watched my video! Thank you so much for that! Also don't forget to like and subscribe!
COD BABY
I like the call of duty music 😂
That is an insane cost for a launch!
Meanwhile india doing mars missions on Hollywood movies budget
wt
Amazing
Thank you!

Will it fit in a Miata 👀
Its a Dinosaur 1 Trick pony, use once and its gone

Of course! the most efficient fuel is a thing of the past
also the 40 million / 140 million price tags are wrong, nobody outsides of Aerojet actually knows the price for each engine
Love the Black Ops menu background music choice 🫡
