Hi Kasey, I wonder if you could advise.. I'm looking for a small lightweight body for street photography, M43 or APSC. Problem is most are bad to handle or have no grip.. so looked at Olympus Pen F? EM5? What do you think? What else should I consider?
@@cameraconspiracies No thanks, I have plenty of fantastic photos with this lens. My other favorite is the 56 1.2, the newer version is slightly faster in auto focus and I haven’t missed a shot since I upgraded!
I'm with ya, 33 is where it's at. Sharpness isn't everything but the 35 is pretty mush wide open. The 33 had it's own character to it, and the wr lm upgrade is far more important to me.
Agree on zooms the fast aperture zoom is actually pretty niche, it's really suitable for event photographers especially where movement might be restricted. For most people looking for an all purpose lens you're mostly better of with a kit lens to save wight and money. If you want good low light and portraits you're better off with a prime. Though all this is pointless as Kasey banned me long ago 😅
Only here to scroll through the comments to see how many people recognize Niko Kovac on the thumbnail ⚽️ 🇭🇷 Btw. just bought a second hand XS20 few days ago after I used the XS10 and the XT4 for a while now. I think if you combine specs, price, weight & form factor the XS20 is a good deal. Excited to see CC going back to good old Fuj, where his heart truly belongs 🫶🏻
I just ordered the 35mm 1.4 and it shows up 2moro! I can’t wait to slap it on my xs-10. I need some 3D pop in my life. Love the channel, Casey! You are the best!!!
And Fuji want to make a vertical digital half frame camera lol, that will have even less reason to exist than the X-M5. Especially as it's market will overlap with the X-M5... Which I do think has it's niche, for new photographers or content creators who want something 'better' than their iPhone and to get the Fuji look. I'm not mad at that because the price reflects it's place in the lineup as an entry level camera, and the X-T50 was really disappointing in that regard.
i love my 35 1.4 and xt30 (mk1). that takes gorgeous portraits, excellent landscapes stopepd down, low light, you name it. light, small, comfortable. boom
I just watched another review with beautiful cinematic colour graded footage from this camera. I almost wet my pants and was going to look where I could buy one but thought I’d better check with you first. Thanks for saving me a big pile of money!
The biggest takeaway for me from this latest Fuji presentation was that they need to learn how to do presentations that aren't stuffy, corporate looking. "...you're compromised and you should be set on fire..." LOL!! My hope is that these new things cause a selling frenzy by the bleeding edgers and I will be able to find a deal on a lens for my X-T3. Some day I'll be able to afford that XF50-140! I agree with your assessment of the X-S20. I do wish it had a WR because I do a lot of hiking and a second card slot would have been nice too, but I think it's a good camera. I like the Toneh footballs(USA footballs). I mentioned the lack of IBIS and use of the smaller battery on this X-M5 and was told that they couldn't do that or it would be competing with the X-S20 and X-T5. Oh well.... Have a rockin' day!!
Such a shame they didn’t atleast add IOS to the new 16-55. By the way, that 35 1.4 is magic. Still on my list as well. Good to hear you’re back with fuji (soon).
Also, i think the main appeal of the "slow-mo" genre is that you do it on a skateboard ao it gives it a magical feel. I dont know how you do it, id bump into sowmthing within 5 seconds.
To estimate if the thonies need to be adjusted you would have to measure the size of the entry pupil. If the glass is bigger then necessary the f5.6 would still be correct if the lens is designed with a bigger image circle.
11:50 I had the same complaint about my Canon EF 300mm 2.8 L IS ii. For the size, it felt like it had the smallest foot in the world. I felt like I could never get a proper grip on it. It shocked the hell out of me given the price of the lens. I'm suprised Nikon did the same there with the 500mm. Is there a practical reason for them to make smaller feet on these lenses?
I’m looking at getting a 50mm equivalent for my Fuji X-T5 & X-H2S. Would you recommend the Fujifilm 35mm 1.4 or the Zeiss 32mm 1.8 for 3D pop and color rendition.
800 bucks 4k 60, 6k open gate, they even have the holes for the fan! This things a great value to me. Could've definitely went without the film dial, and I would've preferred to have a built in flash. Tough to beat the value and size of this thing Good job fuji
That's my favorite lens! (The 35mm/f1.4) I use the X-T5, but I think it'll kick butt on any old thing. I'll confess I was thinking about the X-M5 as maybe a "nearly pocket" second body. But you slapped it out of my hand like when your dog wants to eat a Hershey bar.
Typical FF sensor size is 43mm diagonally. Fuji apsc sensor is 28.3mm. So the real crop factor is 1.5194. 500 mm is 759 mm FF equivalent F5.6 is F8.5 DoF equivalent
I kind of believe you how smaller sensors affect actual focal length and tonneh, but when a sensor crops for video affecting tonneh, no way man. No way!
I had all the red badge zooms and sold them. Now I have a small and simple setup of an xt4, 16 1.4 and 35 1.4. I might buy back the 50-140 eventually. I saw one listed for $900 CAD the other day.
*I love You Approach too Videography and Photo even though I don't care about Wild life Photography I love that you talk a lot more about Fuji and Nikon and Panasonic too an extent w/o including Sony or Cannon, as I only own the FX30 but your simplistic approach to the information is Amazing*
Hi, had to change the name of my channel. "Dirty photography club" had 99.7% male viewership :) Anyway, thanks for mentioning it. The new Fuji glass is uninspiring to say the least, and that is from a company that knows optics.
Used to have an X-H2 and the 100-400, that thing couldn't even reliably focus on a perched bird. While I think the 500 f/5.6 is definitely interesting, unless they have a camera to actually use it with, Fuji will never be a viable option for sports or wildlife.
Love your point of view on the products designs even if I disagree. That comment regarding the rubber on the telephone lens handle 👌. On the other hand your comment on the XS20 dials positions is only valid for telephoto lenses.
I miss the AF of the 35mmf2 Fujicron but I feel now like the French Resistance against the Leica conspiracy with my xpro3 and the real usage of the optical viewfinder paired with a Mitakon Speedmaster 35mmf0.95 II + Acros film simulation… it’s a tactile and analog filing of a Leica M10 monochrome with the IQ of a Summilux 50mmf1.4 costing like 10 times less 😂. Let’s say that after testing the focus peaking innovation of the Q3, coming back to the xpro3 OVF + corner focus peaking is such a joy.
Funny, but xm5 is the ideal camera I’ve been waiting for to compliment as an EDC for my BMPCCs. Tiny, great old sensor, got 10 bit flog - shut up and get my money. If only it had a flip up screen - I’d already lose my sleep waiting for delivery.
13:49 the 35mm f1.4 makes sense to be vintage low element, cause you want an artist image on those kinds of photos. For a standard zoom lens which start at the wide end, that look would just make it look bad. I'm not in the market for a zoom either, but for a wide prime, I wouldn't want that
I don't currently own a camera, I want a camera that can add color/styles in the camera without post-processing. I'm currently torn between fuji xt-30 ii and panasonic s9. Commenters, Any recommendations? Fuji seems cool but no ibis and S9 has huge lenses so isn't very convenient for travelling
Dont expect modern AF from a ten year old lens. It will have some of the best character of any lens in that focal range. I own the 33 1.4 WR and still resort to the 35mm for anything not portrait. I sold the 56mm 1.2 WR because it had zero improvements over the regular 56mm 1.4 R and seemed to confuse removing character with 'sharpness.' Same goes for the old 16mm 1.4 vs the 18mm. No real noticeable difference aside from slightly faster focusing. I come from analog photography and manual focusing will always be my thing. I take the time to setup my shots and properly compose and expose them with purpose. Some of us prefer a detailed Rembrandt over an 'artistic' Picasso.
I also want to eventually upgrade to the X-S20, I think it's the best all around Fuji body for video. But I think you need an X-E1 or X-T1 for the 35 1.4, to get the true Fuji experience lol... or an X-Pro1 if you've got money to burn
My 600mm foot failed and camera + lenses ended up smashed on the floor. Nikon didn't take responsibility and I had to pay for the repair. Avoid or change the lens foot as soon as you open the box.
The vertical situation is a fktical situation. Honestly if they are filming in vert, they don't deserve IBIS and the mic should be at the back, to remind them they are vert shooters. What I don't understand is people who say, "it's so you can view it on your phone screen".. Let me tell you something else you can do with your phone screen... turn it so it's in landscape mode when you watch stuff.
Fuji loves to give their customers a too-small viewfinder or no viewfinder at all. If you want a 1/2 inch viewfinder, you need to spend 3k on their 2 top camera models. I bought the XS-20 for almost 2k and the viewfinder still wasn't big enough to look through comfortably.
I always take an extra battery to feel safe so I prefer the xs10 because theyre smaller batteries. xs20 is worse for manual focus b/c peaking stays on during half shutter
Marketingly, the Fujifilm X-M5 is also created, strategically, to make the Fujifilm X-S20 looks more attractive and to help some buyers justify their reasons now to just buy the fujifilm X-s20.
The X-M5 by being so compact with its feature set makes for a great street photographer camera. Just pointing out that why I would get an XM5 over the XS20. Not everyone wants the XM5 over the XS20 is just being stupid :-)
Kasey we've known each other for years, we cried and laughed together... I have never asked you a favour, but I need you to make a few episodes testing only the newest flagship phones for Vlogging and filmmaking, thank you 🙏🤗📸
Disappoint. A camera nobody asked for. Low price but at what price... no ibis, no viewfinder, same sensor as older cameras and the freaking sim dial... And 16-55 with no ois, only upgrade is weight... meh, older one was not that heavy. And, of course, no firmware upgrade. Fuji is going down the road without brakes.
Xm5 for me is almost an insta buy. My back has been waiting for lightweight fuji colors. Just want to see what xs20 footage looks like and is there any pop in fuji lenses at all.
XM5 reminds me of the earlier Sony NEX and a5100 cameras, which were incredibly small and light but also lacked IBIS and had smaller batteries. You could probably just pick up one of those on the cheap and have similar autofocus and photo quality (obviously lacking in video, though).
@@JJARCHIE Right, they're over 10 years old -- like I said, not for video but for photo they're not half bad, smaller and way cheaper. Sony should come up with a successor to the 5T or a5000 size body with modern tech.
Please Fuji, make something small, with interchangeable lenses, ibis and weather sealing, anything else is a bonus… something I can take everywhere, is sealed and can swap out small primes…
15:30 i have the XS-10 which presented a bad dial after just 2 years of light use and good care. I saw a video the other day from Dylan Goldby, name "Fujifilm X-T50 Review: Two Frustrating Months of Use", watch that before you buy the XS-20. I would 100% go for the X-H line, if money allowed. Fuji doens't seem to have the same build quality anymore.
Z6ii probably better in a lot of ways, but the critters come out to dance for a Fooj I’m so disappointed in the AF on my XT-30. Only camera ever bought new, and it was very expensive for me at the time. Also the only mirrorless I have. My Nikon D600 SLR AF works great. My old Canon 5D Classic focuses better than a Fuji. Every time I take the Fuji out I’m frustrated by the number of slightly missed focus shots.
Reminder: If you didn't need an xs20 before watching this video, you most probably still dont need it after watching this video. Be strong. Say no to youtube induced GAS.
You can get lightly used xs20's for 1200 CAD here and there. I've seen them on keh, fb marketplace and even amazon used. Just can't justify pulling the trigger aince already have an xs10 and i don't go out much anymore
You could also eventually get a cheap lightly used xm5 eventually.

I like the Fuji 33 1.4. Turned out to be my favorite prime lens this year!
Upgrade to the superior 35mm one day :)
@@cameraconspiracies
No thanks, I have plenty of fantastic photos with this lens.
@@cameraconspiraciesYeah, I agree, 35/1.4 is it. Worth having a Fuji camera just for this lens
If it is possible to add a viewfinder on the top via the flash socket, that would be a plus.
Only here to scroll through the comments to see how many people recognize Niko Kovac on the thumbnail ⚽️ 🇭🇷
Btw. just bought a second hand XS20 few days ago after I used the XS10 and the XT4 for a while now.
Welcome back to the Fujifilm AF unpredictable system 😂 just need the body and 16mm 1.4 now!
You like sado, right? xD
6:59" "and nothing will be in focus" 😂 Fujifilm AF
i love my 35 1.4 and xt30 (mk1). that takes gorgeous portraits, excellent landscapes stopepd down, low light, you name it. light, small, comfortable. boom
I just watched another review with beautiful cinematic colour graded footage from this camera. I almost wet my pants and was going to look where I could buy one but thought I’d better check with you first. Thanks for saving me a big pile of money!
I've also recently got the 35 1.4, and preferred it over the 33. The "magic" is real. 🤯
Both great, I lean Fuji.
@@cameraconspiracies Thank you sir. Can’t wait to see more Fujifilm content!
Don't forget to try the zeiss touit 32mm f1.8 on your future xs20. Planar design with beautiful 3dPOP.
800 bucks 4k 60, 6k open gate, they even have the holes for the fan! This things a great value to me.
Could've definitely went without the film dial, and I would've preferred to have a built in flash. Tough to beat the value and size of this thing
Good job fuji
That's my favorite lens! (The 35mm/f1.4) I use the X-T5, but I think it'll kick butt on any old thing.
I'll confess I was thinking about the X-M5 as maybe a "nearly pocket" second body. But you slapped it out of my hand like when your dog wants to eat a Hershey bar.
We need a video in search of swirl bokeh. That is clearly the second most important feature after pop.
Typical FF sensor size is 43mm diagonally. Fuji apsc sensor is 28.3mm. So the real crop factor is 1.5194.
500 mm is 759 mm FF equivalent
F5.6 is F8.5 DoF equivalent
LOL, is that Niko Kovač on the thumbnail?
I kind of believe you how smaller sensors affect actual focal length and tonneh, but when a sensor crops for video affecting tonneh, no way man. No way!
I had all the red badge zooms and sold them. Now I have a small and simple setup of an xt4, 16 1.4 and 35 1.4. I might buy back the 50-140 eventually. I saw one listed for $900 CAD the other day.
no crops! hunger… bad… kitten’s crying
"Dirty photography club" had 99.7% male viewership :)
Anyway, thanks for mentioning it. The new Fuji glass is uninspiring to say the least, and that is from a company that knows optics.
I think all camera channels are mostly male. Mine are 96.8% male :)
Used to have an X-H2 and the 100-400, that thing couldn't even reliably focus on a perched bird. While I think the 500 f/5.6 is definitely interesting, unless they have a camera to actually use it with, Fuji will never be a viable option for sports or wildlife.
looks like the aperture ring has a release button on it, so you can't bump it accidently.
I hope Fuji does some PF lens designs in the future.
13:49 the 35mm f1.4 makes sense to be vintage low element, cause you want an artist image on those kinds of photos. For a standard zoom lens which start at the wide end, that look would just make it look bad. I'm not in the market for a zoom either, but for a wide prime, I wouldn't want that
Disappoint. No viewfinder no sale as far as I'm concerned..
Is the x-s20 not being weather sealed a concern?
With the 27mm 2.8 lens (it's noisy but ok) and the X-M5 you will have a GR3x with interesting colours and fully articulating screen
So were there any Fuji upsides mentioned here, I kinda spaced in and out.
Regarding the mic jack, just bend the cable upwards. Simple logical way to position it
Tell that to gravity.
„One lens system“ got you a like. 👍🏼
They are selling open gate 6k and 422 10bit 4k for cheap... it's crazy If it ever arrives in stores.
we are so back
That XF 35mm 1.4 is moaning like crazy while focusing, I hope you can do a video with those noise
Looking forward to seeing you with the XS-20. I expect the Fuji love affair to resume once you get it, especially with the 35mm.
This outta be good😂😂
The 5 will be a MASSIVE success - I’ll wait for the 6 which will include IBIS 😎👍
How did it fail? Is it the foot itself, or the attachment mechanism? (which can't be changed out).
Here's my review of Kasey's review of reviewers reviewing this camera: good.
The xs20 is 1,3k
@@JJARCHIE 1750+tax in Canada equals 2k
I always take an extra battery to feel safe so I prefer the xs10 because theyre smaller batteries. xs20 is worse for manual focus b/c peaking stays on during half shutter
Marketingly, the Fujifilm X-M5 is also created, strategically, to make the Fujifilm X-S20 looks more attractive and to help some buyers justify their reasons now to just buy the fujifilm X-s20.
Not when the xm5 is half the price and when most people will be using it for viedo and with gimbals anyway
That 500mm is supposed to be the same as the GFX and sharp all around. Still expensive to me. Got the 150-600 now. It’s a slow but not bad.
also, 1" vertical sensor camera for dopamine addicts known as TikTokers
the GH7 has no crops in any mode and has better dynamic range than any APS-C camera on the market, why not get that?
1.77 pounds before lens, versus 13 ounces. Your argument is basically why buy corolla when Lincoln Navigator exists.
It's heavier than both my full frame cameras, with no autofocus in slow mo.
@@cameraconspiracies yeah , they should make one with same everything but the S9 body
@@cameraconspiracies okay you complain about autofocus but fuji has even worse AF
@@mdenjoyer831 Panasonic is MF only in slow mo.
The X-M5 by being so compact with its feature set makes for a great street photographer camera. Just pointing out that why I would get an XM5 over the XS20. Not everyone wants the XM5 over the XS20 is just being stupid :-)
Why did they come out and clarify having a 1.524x crop. 😂
Do expressions like "twenty-ten" have something to do with aperture???
Yes, I can imagine the woodpeckers.
Most of the nex lack pdaf.
That and the lineskipped fhd isnt anywhere close to a 6k open gate footage at 10bit
@@JJARCHIE Right, they're over 10 years old -- like I said, not for video but for photo they're not half bad, smaller and way cheaper. Sony should come up with a successor to the 5T or a5000 size body with modern tech.
Oh please try the Boryoza fuji to nikon Z adapter!
Please Fuji, make something small, with interchangeable lenses, ibis and weather sealing, anything else is a bonus… something I can take everywhere, is sealed and can swap out small primes…
XE5 we can only hope
maybe a version of minimized ibis would have been more important for someone like me ...
What a coincidence! I'm looking at a 35mm@1.4 too! What would be a good deal to get a good unit? 🤩
Mine was $450 CAD with a black pro mist, that's a very good deal.
Z6ii probably better in a lot of ways, but the critters come out to dance for a Fooj
I’m so disappointed in the AF on my XT-30.
S5II ~vs~ X-S20 ~vs~ D850, I'd hide out in the squarely unfair gods magic sorcerer fort.
Reminder:
If you didn't need an xs20 before watching this video, you most probably still dont need it after watching this video.
Be strong.
Say no to youtube induced GAS.
You can get lightly used xs20's for 1200 CAD here and there. I've seen them on keh, fb marketplace and even amazon used. Just can't justify pulling the trigger aince already have an xs10 and i don't go out much anymore
Never seen one that low.
You could also eventually get a cheap lightly used xm5 eventually.
Yesterday I was willing to sell my sushi camera and buy XM5. Today you made me realise XM5 is just a bad product in every way possible. I will stay with my OM-1, thank you. Are you happy?
OM-1!
Does this mean the X-E line is dead? because the last one was the X-E4 adn this thing is called X-M5.
