It’s the inflateable puppet, Alan Lancaster was over in Australia and couldn’t make it to the recording of the video so Bob Young one of the bands song writing partners hid in the roof of the studio to control the puppet, thanks Danny for the Lancaster tone 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I read an article that states he had a little beef with the band over musical variations he wasn’t on board with, which was what prompted the move to Australia. Also stated was that he refused to travel to UK for the video. Very interesting story. 👍
Yea, they soared from button-down psychedelic to hair, denim, and Twelve Gold Bars. It's like Madness in reverse - the Nutty Boys started out as a great ska band but by the time they broke in the US it was all Our House and other over-produced lame stuff.
In the days not long after days of yore, Alan Lancaster was kicking around Sydney pubs with a band called The Bombers ( or The Lancaster Bombers) that could peel paint off the wall on a good night. They went through a few singers, including Angry Anderson and a bloke called Tyrone someone-or-other, for whom I fearlessly predicted great things. Never heard of him since.
Tyrone Coates -- a world-class vocalist. Saw him perform with Alan at a tiny pub. Took some vocal lessons from Tyrone in early 1992 in Sydney. Yes, saddened that he never made the international scene. He deserved it 100%.
@jondunmore4268 Thanks very much for your reply. Tyrone Coates absolutely was the man in question. I first saw him with Mr Lancaster et al at the North Wollongong hotel circa 1989 in a room roughly the size of Gene Simmons' heart, and I thought they were gonna level the place. I also thought that I was getting an early look at a singer I'd be hearing from a lot more. Given that in those days I was treating my body like a cross between a toxic waste dump and an amusement park, it's reassuring to hear I wasn't the only one who thought he really had something special. Any idea what he's up to now?
@@geoffsecombe -- I haven't lived in Australia for 30 years now. and I haven't heard of him here in the States, so I'm very sad that he didn't make it to international stardom. He had the pipes to do it - but obviously didn't have the management push.
@ralphquinney2337 are you sure? I was just talking to a friend of mine who's one of those people who know everyone, and he said he saw him some time in the last couple of years and he'd returned to Australia after stints in the U.S. and U.K. Edit: He also reminded me that John Brewster from The Angels/Angel City was a member of The Bombers as well, and, for a short time, so was another Quo alumnus, drummer John Coghlan.

My brother died last year and he was the biggest quo fan ever, I never liked them much but there's one song i really like, it's called mystery song, if you have never heard it then it's a must listen to.
@@TransDrummer1312 I think just Peter Wood and Snowy White (they played Rick and David respectively in the surrogate band) went on to play in The Bleeding Hearts Band. Although, the backing vocalists from the wall tour also went on to tour with Roger.
You should do a video on some of the Smiths baselines, super underrated in terms of the bass in those songs, it’s my favourite part. Barbarism begins at home for example is amazing
When I hear Danny talk, I feel amused, confused and happy all at the same time. As someone whose native language is not English, I recognize a heavy dialect here, but I'm not sure if it's a real dialect or just spoken in an exaggerated slant to give the video a special touch.... but anyway, I think it's good :-D
As someone who also lives in the North of England, not a million miles away from Danny, I can confirm that the regional dialect is very strong in our neck of the woods.
I was completely brought up on status quo as a kid, my dad has EVERY single and album from quo, even when they were called traffic jam or smth! Luv ur version of paper plane btw :-)

Brilliant video. And people might slate me for this but one thing that caught my attention in my periphery was that the cork board in the top corner kind of looked like Kubrik a bit until you focused on it and even then, it looked like him again if i squinted!! Just me,probably!! But Rob, blink twice if you're in danger!!! 😂
They are only known for “Pictures of Matchsticks Men” in the US. I heard that that was an early psychedelic phase not reflective of their later style. I tried to see why they became so big in the UK but not in the US. To me, they just sounded and looked like any average bar band with run-of-the-mill 1-4-5 chord songs. When I was a kid I got a double compilation album of their earlier stuff from one of those weird labels. Some great stuff on it, In My Chair, Umleitung, Gerdundula.
Heads down, no nonsense boogie! It might not appear that complex, but there's a lot more too their music that it seems Alan Lancaster's Behs really drove that band!
Alan Lancaster is certainly my all-time favourite member of the Quo. The albums from 1971-76 are unbeatable. I’ll have to admit, I’m not into anything they did after John Coghlan left in 1981.
Reminds me of the story I heard about Krafwerk who made two shows simultaneously in two different cities. There were two musicians and two mannequins on each stage.
Alan doesn’t appear in the video for Rocking All Over the World as he refused to return to the UK from Australia to record it. He also did this in 1983 for the dreadful single Marguerita Time, the Top of the Pops video featuring Jim Lea from Slade replacing him.

@davidlelkington Yes. That's exactly what happened. Very expensive to nick over to the UK for a few days as well back then.
Oh Danny boy, you can't leave us hanging like that! Give us the full Danny Sapko cover of Paper Plane! You ROCK!
When I think of Status Quo, I think of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" which came out in early 1968 when I was eleven and was a huge hit in the US.
If you only think of that song you miss quite a lot.

Paper plane always makes me smile 😊

Yes I used to beg this to him. Im guessing we are hoping he recreate the flanger/phaser heavy tone.
I have played rocking all over the world live a few times and it is always super fun
I don’t know why but that mask made me think of both Geezer Butler and Ian Hill from Judas Priest, must’ve just been the moustache though
It's not just a mask, look at the hands, and the seams at the knees. It's a full body puppet.
