Is it just me or does anybody prefer the low fidelity audio of cassettes, i found an old walkman and vicente fernandez tape my dad used to have and im telling yall that sound is amazing to listen to at night
Because it's analog, having fixed up a lot of Walkmans it's really great seeing the mechanism in action when you have a tape playing. You can literally mess around with the belt as it's playing (not recommended) and see how it affects the speed, pitch etc.
Compact cassette tapes are awesome. That's why they still sell blank audio compact cassette tapes till this day. They bring good memories. I used to record vinyl to a cassette and I still do today. I love LP vinyls and audio compact cassettes. I got tapes from 1960's that still play and sound amazing today. I switched to CD's at first in mid 2000's then went back to my favorite format, the compact cassette. CD's would get scratched and start skipping or stop playing at all. Same with LP records, but I still love LP Records. But tapes, there's something about them. Over the years, there are so many interesting tapes, the colours, the types, the brands. Tapes were alive since 1962 and they still sell blanks today. I love audio compact cassette tapes.
Tape is an amazingly sturdy medium! I have lots of tapes that are all used for multi trackers, and I have old tapes that sound great, especially if you keep things rewound. In cases.
The problem with most Car stereo cassette decks is they tend to eat tapes that are longer than 60 minutes, because 90 minutes tapes are a lot thinner, so the case can hold the amount of more tape, compared to the 60 minutes ones. So technically 60 Minutes tapes are a lot less prone to get eaten by a faulty or just cheaply made tape drive because the tape is thicker and more sturdy. If you can, get some 60 minutes Chrome Tapes and record them without Dolby noise reduction. Make sure the recording volume is not too low but the loudest parts of the music should not get over the first red bar of your LED rec. level meter. Otherwise it will be distorted too much. And if it's too low, the tape hiss noisefloor will be too audible. That's pretty much all you need to know if you're recording your tapes with a basic recorder that doesn't have BIAS adjust and such things. If the recording tapedeck tapehead is well aligned and the one of your playback deck in your car is not missaligned as well, your recordings will sound very good. Happy taping :)
Hell yeah. Love the authenticity of this video. Very 1 take kinda man here. No cuts no nothin. Says it how it is. Very off the cuff. This is peak UA-cam
The older I get the more I like such imperfect videos and artforms. I'd rather watch longer video, untrimmed, than some fancy one. Those fancy ones are usually some sponsored content pieces of shit, well that's why I guess.
I agree! Every video i make is unedited. I like to keep things RAW and real. I also dont take sponsorships or paid stuff. Thats why I rarely do videos because I have to save the money to buy stuff thatd be good video ideas.
To be honest i really hate all theses 13 reasons why comments. I hate that kids (Kids and teens) have to watch a new show or movie to learn about great old classic technology! I grew up as a 80s kid. (being born in the 90s) but i grew up around PC Jrs, Commodores, VHS, Laserdisc, Cassette Tapes, 8 mm cameras and so on.
Time moves forward. The things you loved as a kid growing up are becoming less familiar to the newer generations and that's just how it is. I know the comments get annoying but at least that show and Guardians of The Galaxy have drawn some interest and are keeping mediums like cassettes alive.
Max The Tech Guy! In math class we have to put our phones up in pouches, and we had a quiz so we couldn’t have our phones until everyone finished the quiz. I brought a Walkman to school and listened to music while everyone else got to sit in silence. :) Multiple kids in my class said “what’s a Walkman” as well when my teacher was like “oh cool you have a walkman”
My inspirations came from the mixtapes Djs like DJ Drama, DJ Clue, Kid Capri and Funk Flex who made me want to make a mixtape before that 13 Reasons Why crap.
You want a good source volume 50-70% (signal) and a lower tape recorder gain..this will give you less tape noise (hiss) be sure to set the recording gain on the deck just below 0 as to not clip
Sport Odevy It's not digital, it's analog. Cliping is a digital therm not analog. So recording up to +2 db to +8 dB is OK. Tape will have saturation when some point is exceeded. When it is a decent quality normal type I like Maxell UR, Sony HF, TDK etc. +2 or 3 dB is OK, so he did it right. But when it is top of the class type 2 (chrom, cobalt) tape he can even push much harder to +4dB or even +6 dB. With HQ metal tapes he can push nearly to the max without any distorted sound. Less hiss will be in the music when he set higher level. He would get more hiss when he makes lower level recordings. But all depends on what model of the cassette tape is used. Some tapes are more hissy than others. Basf chrome tapes are known as low hiss tapes as they are True Chromes, cheap chinese nonbrand normal type I tapes are usualy very hissy..
Regarding the TAPE/MD input, that is for Cassette or other tape deck OR Minidsic analogue connection. I stated 'analogue' because MD decks also have digital connectors. Also they are 'VU' meters my friend.
It means it a input and output. It can record and do playback. Because you can use this input for recording and playing cassette tapes and recording them. You can also recording and play MiniDisk.
Bro thanks to this. I got some of those like machines on our house sitting like a trash now ill do something with it. I’m planning to send a cassette tape to my friend who’s very special to me and she’s from another country. She already sent me a postcard from her country to mine and I’ll meet her this August. Now i need to learn how to record and put my voice in a cassette tape. Guess this one will really help me and thank you a lot. Hope you’re fine and happy now bro. You’re a huge help! :)

If other cassette enthusiasts would see how I record tapes they would hate me😂 I got my Panasonic RX-M40D I put it to FM, get out my FM transmitter, plug it into my laptop, start recording and then also start my playlist on my laptop. For many people this sounds to be the worst method, because they are absolutely right! Only mono, lot of hiss. But I don't care it's fine to me😅
I don't need a lesson on how to record an album, I was doing that, probably before you were born😂, but that's one of the better type I normal bias tapes, I can't find enough of them! With my decks (Technics RS M85MKII modded, Nak LX3 modded and Harmon Kardon TD292), I get RIDICULOUS results, you practically can't saturate them and the sound is well rounded!
Allow me to introduce a new unit of measurement for sound volume, which I call vovol* (abbreviated: volume voltage). THIS IS HOW IT WORKS: You use two pre-stages, one with positive volume values, and the other negative. For example, so has the pre-step with positive values a measurement from +0 decibels up to +20, while the one with negative values, has from -0 decibels down to -20 decibels. The highest voltage occurs when the value is +20 and -20 decibels (or: 20 vovol), while there is low voltage, when the value is on +0 and -0 decibels (or: 0 vovol). You can possibly also combine two different values with each other, by adjusting the value to +10 -20 vovol, which gives a crisper effect. Have experimented with this myself at work and at home. The adjustment can of course be set to taste. More information about Vovol: When the sound has high volume voltage, the speaker membrane is stretched like a guitar string, so that the sound becomes more sharper, realistic and noise-free. This can be achieved by using an equalizer with a preamp. First, all frequencies are lowered, to, for example, -12 decibels. Then you raise it up to +12 decibels, with a preamp. This is how I usually experiment, with vovol, because currently there are no tools, or apps, to do this. If you, or other who reading this, have an equalizer with a preamp, I think you should try it too. And thank you all for reading! :-) Great video!
thanks, now I can re-record my INXS cassette onto a totally different cassette, solely so my folks and I can listen like thieves to a counterfeit album.

I know some of my info in the video is out of date (This is a very old video) Hopefully ill be doing a newer version. When I stated where 2 types of tapes i probably meant that were easy to get your hands on. Because its hard as hell to get any NEW or used Type 3 or Type 4 tapes in any length. I own a shit ton of TDK SA 90 tapes from 84-85 Most of them are live concerts. One of them is a Copy of a original (My grandmother was one of the original pirates) (Bruce Springsteen August 9, 1978 - Cleveland, OH - The Agora)

So let me understand this properly, if I have a regular boombox recorder, I can simply take my audio chord and connect it to the headphone inputs in both my computer and the boombox and press record and that should work?
I use an aux cord that i plug into both my phone and tape recorder and hit the record button as i play the audio Works like a charm but sound quality varies from phone to phone (and or tape recorder as well along with tape quality)
I found some thing cool I Took a The ox cord for cell phone for your car stereo the cool thing I took the on cord and connected to my cassette Player and connected the other end to my CD player and recorded a song onto a cassette tape and it sounds amazing almost as good as a Quality cassette deck
Can record a sound from original cassette into empty cassette? How is the way? Put empty cassette in right deck & played cassette in left deck or opposited?

thank you for this! I learned a thing or two; I do hope you improve making your future videos a little cleaner :) also my biggest trouble is knowing how you connect your computer to your deck and record from there? could you use male-to-male aux adapters? or would that just cut out the sound and never record? I'm trying to upgrade the sound quality of my mixtapes since the only "deck" I have is the panasonic rq-2102 shoebox cassette player and even though it's so much easier to record with, we know that their sound quality is limited :/ any tips guys? thanks friends :)
You cant, Youll have to get a receiver and hook your audio from your computer up to it. Like get a whole hifi. Like get a reciver from goodwill (They normally have them there for cheap), speakers, and the audio cables for your cassette deck to the receiver and then the cables to connect the PC audio to the system.
hola bro... una pregunta que tal es el deck de cassette marca JVC??? es el modelo TD-R472, quiero saber si es bueno para grabar cassettes amigo... xfavor espero tu respuesta
Buy a used amp/receiver (Goodwill or ebay), buy a nice 80s or 90s cassette deck (Ebay) Get a good model and brand for making solid hardware. Like Yamaha. Connect this cable. www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-5mm-2-Male-Adapter-Stereo/dp/B01D5H8JW0/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3P09VWR516JN3&keywords=left+right+to+3.5mm&qid=1580186146&sprefix=left+right+to+%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-3 to the input on the reciver (Main input) and use www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-2-Male-RCA-Audio-Cable/dp/B01D5H8P0G/ref=pd_bxgy_img_2/135-3633786-5125323?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01D5H8P0G&pd_rd_r=e1db43d3-eadf-4a0d-90a0-5bd651433d82&pd_rd_w=SJRlA&pd_rd_wg=Jm2VX&pf_rd_p=fd08095f-55ff-4a15-9b49-4a1a719225a9&pf_rd_r=60W4RPAAZ6XPB9HYDTVP&psc=1&refRID=60W4RPAAZ6XPB9HYDTVP these cables to connect the input and output for the cassette deck to the reciver. You will also need a decent pair of speakers for monitoring the audio to get the levels right for quality and clearity.
There will always be hiss and noise on cassettes. Its analog magnetic tape. Your gonna have to get the Type 2 or Rare/hard to find Type 3 tapes to remove it or just learn and perfect your recording methods. Nothing is perfect.
Yes you could but please don't. If its a pre-recorded cassette (A tape that was sold with music and whatnot already on it) Than leave it be. Please never record over those cassettes. Buy them and sell them online. If it's a black tape (A tape where it was originally blank but someone put their own audio onto it) That is perfectly fine. With those you don't normally need to over the holes because most of the time they were never tampered with.
My deck doesn't even record. I don't think it's the decks fault cause I returned the first deck I got that didn't record and the second one I got doesn't record either. It's also not the tapes fault so I don't know what's wrong. BTW I'm trying to record a demo, I'm not using a computer or anything.
haha, This video is old as shit haha. Ive been planning on doing a better video soon. Once I get new speakers and such. Just remember, look at the dates that a video was posted. Then look at that person's newer videos. Plus, Unscripted and badly filmed videos is kinda my style haha.

Confused, enough said. Next time you want to profess something make sure you are a world renowned expert = recognised, like me. Thanks.
16 minuttes is too long for a tutorial video, you should edit your video shorter
Thanks man for teaching us that it helped me a lot hope you keep it up
You don't want your levels to be red or else you'll have clipping
It's not digital, it's analog. So recording up to +2 db to +8 dB is OK. Tape will have saturation when some point is exceeded. When it is decent quality normal type I like Maxell UR, Sony HF, TDK etc. +2 or 3 dB is OK, so he did it right. But when it is top of the class type 2 (chrom, cobalt) tape he can even push much harder to +4dB or even +6 dB. With HQ metal tapes he can push nearly to the max without any distorted sound. But all depends on what model of the cassette tape is used.
I wanted to learn this because i wanted to record some thoughts
Then get a note book
George Washington I'm dead
+Max The Tech Guy! Damn you're edgy.
Jesse Hegwood it's actually called dark humor.
um your phone has a recorder
and I tried the same thing with my iPhone and it sounds amazing
Tj Nickles the whole reason I’m here is to see if that‘ll work 😂
can you please explain how you did that with a tape deck? is it a converter you need to buy?
I come from a third world country, and there was a lot of this. No shows no nada. Literally the common way to get music. And pretty badass.
dude sounds like he just needs to talk to SOMEONE lmao
So let me understand this properly, if I have a regular boombox recorder, I can simply take my audio chord and connect it to the headphone inputs in both my computer and the boombox and press record and that should work?
Patrick E. Yes!
Yes
could i record music with a cassette dictaphone (through the mic port) ?
sure. if youve got a cassette recorder that has a mic port and you have a mic. Then yes.
I'm here to record some of my playlists jus in case if I get an older car
I appreciate how descriptive you were. Thank you dude.
problem is nobody make type II (metal chrome) cassette .. only type 1
Hi Max The Tech Guy, does the white noise need to be just at the beginning of the playlist or before each song?
at the beginning of the playlist
@@maxthetechguy3737 Thanks.
I came beacuse I found some in my house
What did you find? Recorded tapes or prerecorded tapes? If so what kind of stuff? Id like to know
No response
Me to lol
Yeah
Hi, great video but do we have to turn the tapes over to record the next side?. Thanks
Yup
Nice now i can cosplay as jacket
I use an aux cord that i plug into both my phone and tape recorder and hit the record button as i play the audio
Works like a charm but sound quality varies from phone to phone (and or tape recorder as well along with tape quality)
I tried that. It didnt work at all.
Max The Tech Guy! That is bizarre
Many independent people do that and i as well have done it. Maybe it depends on your device
Thanks man I have been trying to record on my cassette for days!!
You can use any app to download the songs?
Surprised to see Bauhaus. Great choice. I plan on doing this with The Chameleons and The Sound. Thanks.
I found some thing cool I Took a The ox cord for cell phone for your car stereo the cool thing I took the on cord and connected to my cassette Player and connected the other end to my CD player and recorded a song onto a cassette tape and it sounds amazing almost as good as a Quality cassette deck
what is an ox cord
hgpo27 auxiliary cord
it was joke
Ooooo I was thinking of the same but wasn't sure if it will work
I think reading this gave me dyslexia.
Thanks now i can listen to hard bass on radios and crap
Hey this is probably really late but what is the size of the “PHONES” jack? All I have is 3.5’s
Can record a sound from original cassette into empty cassette? How is the way? Put empty cassette in right deck & played cassette in left deck or opposited?
Honestly you don't sound like you know what you are doing. But I will continue watching. Im just curious, and I already do tape recordings.
What do you mean i sound like i don't know what i'm doing? I am planning on doing a new updated video soon. My deck needs new belts before i can.
keep the camera steady, if you're planning to make videos in the future.
Go max!
@@maxthetechguy3737 max got no chill LMFAO i love it
@Hank Nemetz First, I have a sick, Dark, and fucked up sense of humor. Second, I live in the US of A. I say what i want when i want. Third, I dont "Threaten people. I just tell them to do something harmful and maybe a little deadly in a nice, creative, and fucked up kind of way.
Hail Jif! The master of the peanut butter and all that is pure! For he shall save us from the messy jelly that comes to "Threaten and challenge" its rivals and used trolls and dank meme.
-Your one and only Corsair the master of keys. MX Cherry Reds are the best.
@Hank Nemetz You been goofed.
You were nervous ^^ but other than that, great video!
Thanks
So what I do is a buy a cassette tape, and record my guitar and singing for a song, but what if I make a mistake? no redoing it or what?
Youll have to rewind and record over it.
finally I can make my Raid the arcade mix
thank you for this! I learned a thing or two; I do hope you improve making your future videos a little cleaner :) also my biggest trouble is knowing how you connect your computer to your deck and record from there? could you use male-to-male aux adapters? or would that just cut out the sound and never record? I'm trying to upgrade the sound quality of my mixtapes since the only "deck" I have is the panasonic rq-2102 shoebox cassette player and even though it's so much easier to record with, we know that their sound quality is limited :/
any tips guys?
thanks friends :)
male to male aux is correct I think!
The white tape is to clean the head of the cassette player in case you didn't know.
I just want to carry around my boombox playing sick beats
make sure to put some phat tunes on them and walk down the street!
im getting a boom box
Hey does there need to be a specific tape that is the same as the cassette player
my question is, will it still have base?
yes.....
***** Thank u!
Bass and definitely, better than a cd
how would i connect the tape deck to the computer? Thanks!
You cant, Youll have to get a receiver and hook your audio from your computer up to it. Like get a whole hifi. Like get a reciver from goodwill (They normally have them there for cheap), speakers, and the audio cables for your cassette deck to the receiver and then the cables to connect the PC audio to the system.
what cable do you need to transfer music from computer to a tape recorder?
Does this delay apply to all minute tapes? I just don't want to ruin a tape when recording a c64 tape
Its level on 0. You can make it louder. But not go over +3 becasue it can make it clipping, speciely on a casette tape
Thx this really helped me alot :D
hola bro... una pregunta que tal es el deck de cassette marca JVC??? es el modelo TD-R472, quiero saber si es bueno para grabar cassettes amigo... xfavor espero tu respuesta
How did you connect your laptop to your Cassette deck? If it was a cable, what cable did you use?
A cable
Sorry if this part was in the video and I missed it but what type of cable would I need to connect my amp to my laptop?
I came here because I thought you'd show us how to record a tape at a good quality without the hiss in the background found in most type 1's.
There will always be hiss and noise on cassettes. Its analog magnetic tape. Your gonna have to get the Type 2 or Rare/hard to find Type 3 tapes to remove it or just learn and perfect your recording methods. Nothing is perfect.
I wonder, would I be able to go to a thrift store, buy a couple of cassettes and cover the holes so that I can record over what's already there?
Yes you could but please don't. If its a pre-recorded cassette (A tape that was sold with music and whatnot already on it) Than leave it be. Please never record over those cassettes. Buy them and sell them online. If it's a black tape (A tape where it was originally blank but someone put their own audio onto it) That is perfectly fine. With those you don't normally need to over the holes because most of the time they were never tampered with.
Alright, thanks. I was just curious.
Also, how did the cassette, that you recorded on in the video, turn out?
Now my only problem is looking for where to buy a tape thingy lmao
Thank, max the tech guy
Is a receiver necessary to record from a computer onto a cassette?
cassettes have allways been better
My deck doesn't even record. I don't think it's the decks fault cause I returned the first deck I got that didn't record and the second one I got doesn't record either. It's also not the tapes fault so I don't know what's wrong. BTW I'm trying to record a demo, I'm not using a computer or anything.
Thank you very much you helped me I've subscribed to you
Its was really helpful but maybe try and be a lil less shakey. Just some constructive criticism 😅
haha, This video is old as shit haha. Ive been planning on doing a better video soon. Once I get new speakers and such.
Just remember, look at the dates that a video was posted. Then look at that person's newer videos. Plus, Unscripted and badly filmed videos is kinda my style haha.
Now i will have eazy e on a cassette
Name of song?
I brought my Walkman cassette player to school the other day and a majority of my teachers were freaking out and said "oh my god is that a Walkman cassette player?!?" And my friends/ other students kept referencing stupid 13 reasons why to me.
Wait is that a classic rock radio ?
I really wanna record an 80's playlist and play it in an old radio we have at home, I think it would sound amazing.
