This is so cool to see. I’m a huge fan of Kengan Ashura and actually just discovered an Uechi-Ryū dojo here in my town. I’m going to go check it out tonight! Thanks for posting this video!
Happy days!
So are you still doing karate Or you quite.
Uechi-Ryu would apparently be among the most dangerous/effective self-defence karate styles.
I do Uechi-Ryu and its up there with okinawan Gōjū-ryū and Kyokushin. I find Full-Contact Karate is the way to go in 2023.
@irishmaninokinawa5268 yes I agree with the full-contact aspect. I believe it should at least be part of the training session. Simply from a self-defence perspective, I you don't know how it feels to receive a punch/kick full force, you won't be able to cope with this stress factor in a real life situation. I train shorin-ryu and at the end of each training session, we do full-contact sparring in Kyokushin rules.
I didn`t know you guys did traditional full-contact as well.
Sweet! Uechi-Ryu is super overlooked in the world of Full-Contact Karaate, but it's an amazing style.
I am not surprised. Uechi Ryu is not something strange.
I’m watching kenshin ashura bc of this I initially thought it was more goju than any other okinawan martial art styles. Especially the emphasis on Sanchin, cat stance, and close hand blocks but seeing the footage I think the open hand stabs do say a lot.
Man wish it was goju ryu. But love the representation of traditional arts in a series and not just MMA.
Amazing 💯
Great video! 👍
If I could go to Japan to learn this martial art, I definitely will
Am in okinawa now. Learning it and loving it.
@@irishmaninokinawa5268 nice
Okinawa
@irishmaninokinawa5268 I was allowed to train with kiohyde Sensei and his brother. I was constantly allowed to work with Gushi sensei also. I received my shodan under sensei Rick Martin.
@@donbaird3826 nice, I’m jealous
I like this video! I’m an Uechi-Ryu practitioner btw.
Same. In Okinawa now.
@@irishmaninokinawa5268 I’m in Tokyo. I don’t belong to a dojo either but I’m being taught one on one by my Sensei.
@@squifflessquaffles6339 o! Nice! Am training under Mr Tsuneo Shinabukuro.
@@irishmaninokinawa5268 Awesome! Best of luck to both of us!
The open hand nukite in Sanchin was the dead giveaway! 😁
I have a shodan in uechi ryu. Once you achieve the green obi. It gets really difficult. The best year's of my life. I still study Sanchin daily.
I would love to see a fighting anime where Shorinji Kempo is used any suggestions.
Lihito will be a perfect student for this style of Gensai
Also Hassad used shuri te early on in Kengan and Wakatsuki Takeshi Rokushin Kaikan is basically Kyokushin Karate
The Sachin Dachi and Neko ashi dachi is also common stance in Shito Ryu. Nobody knows what style Kuroki Gensai was using.
It's true!!!!!
Could anybody direct me to the channel that featured the real examples on 3:50 onward? I appreciate your help very much 🙏
It's in the details.
There's Uechi in Ireland now!?
Not yet... But there will be.
@@irishmaninokinawa5268 That's great. I'll visit when I'm next back home if you're back by then. My old - excellent - Wuzuquan club may be of interest to you, too. Uechi is a hard style in comparison but both no-bullsh*t fighting.
There was also a Kyokushin Budokai nidan there several years ago it might be worthwhile hooking up with. I'll message you!
@@InGrindWeCrust2010 I'll be here for the next two years. But you can find me on Instagram at Irish man in Okinawa.
Idk homie he doesn't do the wing arm thing. So this could also be Goju
What is Wing arm thing?? I do Uechi-Ryū in okinawa and I've no clue what you talk of.
@@irishmaninokinawa5268 I had to look it up. The position of the hands before wa uke. Both hands are turned to about 45 degrees with the palms open. Look like a bird's wings to me. It's in your katas. When I see that stance I always think Uechi Ryu.
Check kicks pop up few more in Uechi-Ryū then Wa uke. Would you not rather check kick??
Which one is oma takida
I've no clue. My own fighting style is Uechi Ryu But if I every have time I could look it up for you.
@@irishmaninokinawa5268 thank you and please
Ohma Tokida
Ohma is some MMA mash-up, not a style. His striking is borrowed from muay thai and he also has some rudimentary jiu-jitsu grappling.
