Thanks for Taking the time to review this Guitar really enjoyed this video I’m a massive slash fan never gonna be able to afford this guitar.i would definitely buy one if I had a spare thirteen Thousand .Awesome work 🤘🤘🤘
I would have liked to hear the 12-string side played through the cranked amp. You can get some unique lead sounds with a 12-string. By the way, I think the silver embellishments on the strap are called "conchos".
this was such a kick ass video, you are right I've never seen anyone other then a rock star playing one and seeing someone else play one I've come to the conclusion that double necks are bad ass
I played one years ago. Had no idea what I was doing lol. Seems like s badass guitar. I would expect nothing less than them sending you a replacement. Great work as always Mr, Austin!
The things on his hat is actually a Concho belt. Usually when you think of Concho belt you think of Slash's hat, SRV hat and he also wore Concho belts and Jim Morrison.
Coolest bass I ever played was hand crafted by Tobias in the 70's. Double neck, fretless and fretted. $15k asking price so it was a bit out of my fresh from bootcamp price range.
I have the epiphone version of the 1275 with set necks and it is HEAVY. Best plywood body as well but still sounds reasonable and was slightly more affordable. However if anyone is tempted by the cheapo epi version, DO change the switches as they all seem to be pretty unreliable on all the epis I've bought.
My good buddy who I played in a band with while attending college had one of these (I believe manufactured at some point in the '70s - he owned it from the '90s until some point in the 2000s, good condition, although the case smelled no matter what was done to it!), and I ended up spending quite a bit of time with it (as he absolutely hated stringing his many guitars as is, so suffice to say, he hated the process on this guitar 3 times as much!). Playing on the "off" neck while the "on" neck sympathetically resonates is definitely a fun, unique sound. I last had custody of it sometime around '04-'05, and your description of the neck profile, the overall feel brings back memories for me - I think you pretty much nailed it. I guarantee he paid a LOT less than $13K, for his (waiting for him to text me back what he paid back then).
Yeah. You can get a custom shop "standard" model (i.e., not some weird Rick Nielsen quintuple neck) from pretty much any manufacturer for less than $5k. Anything more than that is paying for stuff other than materials and craftsmanship. You're paying for a name, some collector value, or you're buying a display piece. I've even played with Kiesel's custom builder and can't even break $5k on a ridiculous all-exotic wood multiscale 8 string.
Angel Diaz I review it for you, it's not that great. Guitar players develop weird quirks and I'm not sure really how true it is to Stevie. He used bass frets for some reason.
Very interesting. The sympathetic output from the side of the guitar not being played does add evidence to the whole tone-wood debate. What I've read is that Vintage pickups were many times microphonic in nature. The belief is that the microphonics of the pickup(s) actually add to the overall tone of a vintage instrument. If the wood does indeed vibrate and add to the overall sound (and this would be expected as certain woods are resonate in nature) then the microphonic pickups would reproduce these sounds/harmonics and include these additional sounds/tones/harmonics and frequencies into the guitar's pickups output. So even though some have argued that tone-wood is a myth we here have clear evidence that the wood is resonating and inducing signal output in the other pickups. As I stated earlier, very, very interesting. So in theory as long as you have a guitar with a resonate piece of wood and slightly microphonic pickups you should have a pretty good sounding instrument. This whole thing kind of proves out why my custom built R9 sounds so good with un-potted Burstbucker #1 and #2 pickups as those un-potted pickups are indeed microphonic.
This was quite a few years ago, but at Guitar Center near Nashville I had the honor of handling and playing a double neck. I clung to that thing like a priceless egg and was so paranoid. They are pretty unweildly at first, but after a few minutes it was unbelivability fun.
If I were sweetwater I would refuse his return...he tears these things apart and shows them on UA-cam for profit and then bitches about small stuff and gets the return....honestly I would say this may have been damage caused by him.
@@tcarroll2054 how often does he do that? Idk about others but this one should definitely have been shown and brought to Gibson's attention. Worst part about it though is that they'd never feel it. I'm sure they'd somehow end up making more money finding some way to write it off.
"Blemish"? Did we watch the same video? I may be wrong but I thought the wood was split and he could tell that someone tried to repair it due to evidence of wood filler . If that was really the case, then that was being deceitful by whomever damaged it. I understand that it's a relic guitar but damn. I'd be pissed if I found that on a 13 thousand dollar guitar. Hell, I'd be pissed if I found it on any guitar no matter the price of it. But on the other hand, it looks all to hell anyway so what difference does it really make? 🤷♂️ It's like buying an extremely reliced guitar that was purposely made to look used and abused and you complain about an extra scratch, ding or whatever that you think shouldn't be there. My comment was about the moral aspect of it basically.
Steve Clark of Def Leppard used TWO of these for about 5-6 songs, one of them being "Foolin", during their 1988 stadium tour.....one was white, one was red....awesome!
Get your money back now!! Just saw a brand new white double neck leave Sarasota FL Guitar Center that blows this crap away! You exposed so many flaws in this I’m pissed off at Gibson for ripping people off. Who was that jamming at the end? Thank you for the hard work YOU put into this for us!!
Ok so from what you explained with the 3 ways, the only way to get the bridge pup on the 12 string would be to turn down the volume to the 6 string? I would have thought the bigger switch was only for the 12 and the bottom switch only for the 6. Lol I am trying to figure out in my head how they could have done that plus you'd have to be able to kill the other guitar when you aren't using it. I guess one more switch like between the two guitars but more towards the front, down would be 6 up would be 12 and the middle kills them both? Lol, I know that wouldn't work but my brain isn't working right tonight for some reason lol. Anyway, Hey Austin is that your'e playing during the intro? Man that sounded awesome! Very in your face classic rock vibe going on there!! I still don't care for relic'd guitars but this one they did a good job on and did not carried away with it like you see so many of them do. Lol if I were to own that and not know it was a relic'd job I would be polishing the heck out of it trying to get those scratches out! lol. There is a video of KISS, the authorized video they put out for the song Hard Luck Woman, and Paul Stanley has a red SG double neck strapped on and he is playing the 12 while Ace Frehley is standing behind him and is playing the 6 lol. It was a cool video to see at the time when they first came out with it. This one you got sounds awesome!
The one in the middle of the guitar controls which neck - the one by the 6 string neck controls what pickup you're on just like normal (works for both necks.)
@@Trog - Om I gotcha! Hey, I was thinking, maybe the truss rod isn't really almost maxed out, maybe it's part of the reilc job? Maybe they used a longer than usual rod so they could make it appear to be how you saw it? I kind of doubt it but since it's a relic job who knows? Maybe the the pick guard screw is the same? But, if they are defects, you get to send it back, get your review and not be $13k in debt lol.
Allen Woody of the Allman Brothers Band/Gov't Mule had double neck Gibson with bass and mandolin necks on it. I saw him play several times (RIP Allen Woody)
Trogly, your show is great, thank you! The sympathetic vibration you pointed out in this video is intriguing. I’d love to mess with that and the volume / tone combinations. You are the Dwight Schrute of Gibson knowledge (dumb joke, no disrespect, you kind of look like him). Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’d like to know, where did you learn your luthier skills? That may be a be a cool video.
fun fact Adam Day slash guitar tech said in the premier guitar rig rundown " I think its a 88 or 89" but his EDS 1275 is dated as a 66' witch makes it even rarer!
That's a good question! I've heard that extreme temperature changes can cause finish checking. You'd think that a tailpiece bolted down tightly over the paint job might preserve it? Next time I see a badly checked instrument on eBay I'm gonna look closely at the photos.
I've always mused about getting an EDS, though I would want the extended string length like Page's; more slinky... I certainly don't give a toss for the Slash connection and its commensurate sticker shock...
Jah Rastafari if you extend the length of a string you need more tension so they won’t feel more slinky. Imagine a short piece a rope with a person at each end pulling to make it straight; now imagine the same rope in a lot longer length, it would take substantial more pulling to pull the rope straight.
Pretty sure the string length is the same, Page just got more from his 10 inch fingers, seriously look a them sometime, they look like a crab on the fretboard
@@DoctorEnigma01 Nope; search for pictures of it; it's clearly 2"+ longer than stock. He spoke about it in at least one interview. (Incidentally, the scale length isn't different; just the tailpiece is much further from the bridge).

C'MON DUDE!!! Ace Frehley uses a sun-burst one for 'Rock Bottom' & he and Paul Stanley play the same one in the 'Hard Luck Woman' video!! How could you leave those pictures out of your video brother??
Yea, I remember that. I believe he had a white one and use to end gigs with it playing Starship Troopers with Yes. I'm not sure but I think he also had a Gibson hollow body double neck but hey it was the 70s.
I have a '72 ES-335 with nary a check mark on it. It would pain me deeply to see my Es-335 looking like that. I did have a '63 SG that was full of checking when I bought it in '70. But the checking was mostly across the body and NOT lengthwise. Here in Minnesnowta the biggest reason for checking is not letting your guitar warm up slowly before opening the case after it's been sitting inside your car in subzero weather.
Drop in output in middle ( both ) neck selector position is because you now have four 8K ohm pickups in parallel, 8k \ 4 = 2k , or in other words you have two guitars plugged in but you're playing only one.

No one will ever mistake you for a rockstar, dude.
No. Next question.
Outstanding relicing job by the Gibson Custom Shop, not only the guitar finish is reliced but the Truss Rod is also reliced
Wow 12 minutes in and I just realized this is a new guitar! I really thought this was a vintage guitar. They are amazing at aging these things. Incredible
Awesome! Sorry ya have to send it back man, but still awesome.
For that price, I would expect absolute perfection.
Built in redundancy. You can break one headstock and still have another!
Lol,great point!!

ah, a fender guy.
@@matressi6843 ..lol!
Great to see this guitar covered in detail and sound! Making me actually think about getting a double neck.
I've played a few. Even though they look absurd, the bc rich biches are way better than the Gibsons from a usablity standpoint.
@@liamtahaney713 If you can find them the only Gordon Smith's were great.
I agree with Liam, very fond of my BC Rich Bich 6/12. Looks crazy 🍌🍌s in a great way but what a sweet axe!
If you're going overboard for a doubleneck, might as well take the Bich with ya.
Good to see you've been working out...
$13,000 guitar with a $13 outfit. Us Troglodytes will have it no other way! Great vid again!!
The things on his hat is actually a Concho belt. Usually when you think of Concho belt you think of Slash's hat, SRV hat and he also wore Concho belts and Jim Morrison.
Saying the word: ‘’Authentic’’ in a Gibson review. Such a genius !
Coolest bass I ever played was hand crafted by Tobias in the 70's. Double neck, fretless and fretted. $15k asking price so it was a bit out of my fresh from bootcamp price range.
interesting that you say they really resonate. they strike me as a giant tuning fork when i look at them
I have the epiphone version of the 1275 with set necks and it is HEAVY.
“Art” guitars aside, in my opinion, no guitar mean to be played is worn that kind of money. I
Slash is a great ambassador for bringing things back in fashion
I've always wonderd what the intro and outro songs in your videos originate from did you make them yourself or are they just amazing covers?
Just stock music from iMovie. Lazy Day + Dustbowl
I got a brand new BMW motorcycle for less than that!
One of the best reviews
Really want the epiphone G-1275 now. $1000 is a little more manageable for me lol
Same for me! I recently started to love double necks
John McLaughlin is so underrated he’s freaking spread demon
Yea him and Holdsworth were gettin they shred on
Review the Stevie Ray Vaughan signature strat
Angel Diaz I review it for you, it's not that great. Guitar players develop weird quirks and I'm not sure really how true it is to Stevie. He used bass frets for some reason.
Those decorative metal thing on the strap I believe are called Concho’s
That guitar is so old school, it aged Trogly by a few decades.
Jimmy Page EDS next please 🙏. Only way we’ll ever see one with this level of detail. Love this format !
That guitar solo in the beginning was pretty cool.
Whomever knowingly let that guitar leave the factory with that boo boo should be fired.
Guns, Gadgets & Guitars I second this!
How do you know he does this? You just pulled that out of nowhere so I have to believe you want to complain just for the sake of it.
Another great vid man! Keep em comin'!!🤘🤘🤘
Steve Clark of Def Leppard used TWO of these for about 5-6 songs, one of them being "Foolin", during their 1988 stadium tour.....one was white, one was red....awesome!
Hang on I have to tune up my guitar. I’ll catch up in an hour or so.
I love that he used the live aid incedent for the jimmy page example
Who's Slash? Isn't that the Coheed and Cambria guitar?
Charlie Whitney of Family used a 1275 pretty much exclusively. A really great, really interesting player
13k and it's already scratched? Sheesh, no wonder Gibson is going under.
Well, this guitar is for collectors and they are meant to look vintage, the scratches also don't effect the sound
maybe if you actually listened instead of bitching about a guitar you'll never own, you'll understand why it's scratched up.
@@matressi6843 Maybe they were talking about the chip in the wood and used the wrong word? Idk, I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt
The “buckles” on the strap are called conchos they are typically on western hats
Great review man! As always 🤘
Nice to hear a mention of Steve Clark, being a massive def leppard fan
Does real finish checking go under bolt on tail pieces like that? I wouldn't expect it to, but don't know better either.
@@allthings1150 Which I _wouldn't_ do (or at least start out on that premise...).

Yea, I remember that. I believe he had a white one and use to end gigs with it playing Starship Troopers with Yes. I'm not sure but I think he also had a Gibson hollow body double neck but hey it was the 70s.
YessongS
I have a '72 ES-335 with nary a check mark on it. It would pain me deeply to see my Es-335 looking like that.
I did have a '63 SG that was full of checking when I bought it in '70. But the checking was mostly across the body and NOT lengthwise. Here in Minnesnowta the biggest reason for checking is not letting your guitar warm up slowly before opening the case after it's been sitting inside your car in subzero weather.
The two necks are wired parallel instead of series-that’s why the volume drops when you go to two necks from just one.
Drop in output in middle ( both ) neck selector position is because you now have four 8K ohm pickups in parallel, 8k \ 4 = 2k , or in other words you have two guitars plugged in but you're playing only one.
