Good guitarists don't need to look as if they're trying really hard to play, because...They aren't.
They make it look easy because it's easy for them. That's the path to playing like they do. Don't go hard, slow it down, nail it like that, and only speed up when it's so easy it's become boring.

The slide octaves in the intro are really hard to play cleanly, especially the last slide in each phrase, where you have to switch to the powerchords. It's hard even at slower tempos. You have to move your hand very quickly so you have enough time to pick the octave and slide up o down. When I do it, it tends to sound a bit too muddy to my liking. Funny enough the rest of the song is quite easy in comparison.

@@killswitch2538 It depends on the day, though. Sometimes my hands are more responsive, if that makes any sense, and I manage to pull it off quite well. Lately, I was doing quite good, but I switched songs and decided to focus on "Chapter Four's" solo. For the most part it's not that hard if you're comfortable with the tiniest bit of sweep picking. But there's this little legato-roll at the end that seems impossible to play at full speed. Damn you, Syn. Why is your technique so good?

And so on, you just missed the palm muted open notes on the low D string

Actually, both work since Zacky plays the open D string palm muted live, but it's the open A string that is played on the record if you listen carefully ;)

are you picking the open string in between each note in the intro? all the tutorials I have watched say to do that yet when I watch others play it, I can't hear it and I can pick fast enough to do it. just wondering
If you want to play it like the original then yes, the open strings are picked between the intro notes.

That was the Axe-FX II with a bogner Ubershall preset. I have the real amp now, but I think you should dial in the settings to your taste if you have the actual amp.
