This brother and sister musicality...she also is gifted to play the drums and percussion with both hands in both directions while SINGING in perfect pitch simultaneously. So talented, eh❤😊
She is an EXCELLENT drummer and is typically singing and playing drums at the same time! She didnt play drums in this song, but she did for a lot of songs. A little research reveals she was a killer drummer.
@@Coowallsky yes, when you consider singing as a drummer, that is excellent. Very few drummers can sing and drum together. Have you ever seen the video of her playing a long solo?
@@stephenwhite5444 No there have been several drummers that sing and drum. Her drumming skills were not excellent as Hal Blaine did much of their studio drum work.
@@Coowallsky that has more to do with the recording environment where you don't record drums and lead vocals on the same mic. They put the drums in a soundproof room so it's not picked up by other mics, it allows them to have different instruments in different channels and adjust volume of them independently to get the sound just right. Sure they could record her doing one thing then another, but typically most bands prefer playing together. She often did play drums at the live performances and would often do a long drum exhibition. In their later albums she suffered greatly from anorexia (which she died from) and probably didnt have the strength to drum an entire set, at that point they started bringing a drummer to shows as well, even then they would still do a pretty awesome drum duet, but I suspect she lost the stamina to drum and sing and entire show. You should probably research some of her drumming solos, especially the older b&w recordings.
Early 1975...just when I thought the Carpenters were done getting hits...they released this gem and sored to #4 on the charts...they were the prince and princess of pop music, they appealed to all ages...and I miss Karen so much, she was like the girl next door who could sing your socks off with emotion and heart like nobody else, most of whom were screaming.... The oboe and English Horn were trademark sound of almost all Carpenters hits. in the studio Karen and Richard sang all harmonies together, in layers.
Karen had one of the purest and clear vocals..They called her the one take wonder. Even though she had a 3 octave voice her lower register was her sweet spot. The $$ is in the basement
I grew up with the Carpenters! Her voice is like silk and instantly recognizable! Such a loss for all of us! Everyone knew how special Karen was except Karen!
Karen - superb drummer ! (I'm a drummer too), amazing singer, and overall stunning entertainer. Richard (her brother) - Top notch song writer, music composer, musician, singer. Together - there will never be another duo like them again, such a magical blend of melodies and straight-to-the-heart hits. It was sooooo sad to see Karen fade away (passed away due to anorexia), and with her, an epic decade of the most wonderful music-making ...
Karen gets all the well-deserved praise, but her brother, Richard, wrote, arranged, performed backup vocals, and played keys on most of their songs. He is a real musical genius! Together they shone like no other duo in history!
Love it that you checked this one out! In a live setting she always sang it live but her and her brother pre- recorded all the background vocals that if you listen closely you can hear Karen on at least 2 more vocals and her brother singing 2 or three as well giving it that full sound! To me Karen’s voice was one that I really haven’t heard anyone really close to her rich alto vocals. Even the girl that has released some covers! Though close to the sound it’s just not quite there in my opinion! Thanks again, Karen my voice crush, ❤ low bass Kenneth ❤
I'm 65, and the 70's were so crazy. The Carpenters, Patti Smith, Rickey Lee Jones, Janis, Grace Slick, t.rex, bowie, elton john, sly and the family stone, grand funk r.r., AND motown! Marvin, Jackson 5, Stevie, Aretha stop me. Anyway, broadest, best decade of rock, pop, soul, funk music ever!❤❤❤ React to the whole decade, and reach far and wide😉.
I love your reaction and how much you love Home Free and Tim Foust. I just stumbled upon an a capella bass named Tim Storms singing Lonesome Road. If you have never seen or heard of him you MUST do a blind reaction. 🤠
Maggie! The song actually doesn't fade out there; it continues on through another cadence, then fades out. For some reason this video cuts it short. You're fun! :)
Maggie, you know talent. Im in my 60s and remember Carpenters well. Herb Alpert heard Karen's voice on a demo in 1969 and signed her brother, Richard, and her to A&M records. Karen received 3 or 4 Grammys in the 70s and sold over 80 million records by 1982. She was 1975 rock drummer of the year according to Playboy. KC had the most beautiful voice-ever, and perhaps THE best female vocalist-ever, because she compels you to listen as she sings in perfect pitch to you, not at you, with emotion and enunciation. No auto-tune or gimmicks. No professional voice or drum instruction. She was known by the studios as 'one take'. She rarely, if ever, sang more than one take of any song. She was also the ONLY female harmony/background voice in all her songs. She was truly born with an incredible singing talent. Documentaries point out the accolades to her voice, such as, Paul McCartney said she had the most angelic voice after hearing her sing 'Ticket To Ride'. John Lennon ran into her at an LA restaurant and told her "you have a fabulous voice, luv". Supposedly Frank Sinatra stated that Karen was the only singer he'd pay to hear. I recommend songs such as, Yesterday Once More, Solitaire, This Masquerade, Rainy Days And Mondays, Need To Be In Love, Hurting Each Other, I Can Dream Cant I (you've must hear this 1939 ballad ! ), Crescent Noon, Ordinary Fool, Close To You, We've Only Just Begun, A Place To Hideaway, and A Song For You. KC never knew true love. Her few friends included Olivia Newton John and Dionne Warwick. 5'3" KC really lost weight, due to anorexia, in earnest beginning in 1975. She died in Feb 1983 at age 32 due to heart complications from anorexia
Richard made her join him in the studio to record the background voice harmony. Both recorded 6 different takes for him to blend on the multi track tapes used back then
There is a 20 year old woman out there who is a Karen tribute artist, that you should hear to compare and contrast. Her name is Tori Holub, and she partners with Jim Wilkas (AKA Jim the Midi Doctor) to cover the Bacharach David Medley, and We've only Just Begun. She also covers Heart, and Olivia Newton-John, and has a few originals and other Carpenters shorts. My guess is you will soon get a patreon who want's yo to hear her too.
Excellent reaction. The Carpenters are my favorite group and it was good to see how others react to their music. Suggestion for Future Reactions: "Trying To Get The Feeling Again" by the Carpenters (this song is unique because Karen's vocals were from a work lead for the song that was lost, found, and Richard completed production). "You Don't Love Me Anymore" by "Weird Al" Yankovic. This song is an odd one in his catalog because it is both funny and very sad at the same time. "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" by Eric Carmen
.....I like the content -❤love your voice when you sing -I see all types on UA-cam-girl you have a BEAUTIFUL voice a and smile...Not too mention the hair.❤
They were the perfect pair to transform many people from the folk music to pop at that time. Thank you for the great reaction and thank you Roy for another fantastic sponsorship.
They were my favorite vocalists of the 70s. Karen had such a sad end. She died of Bulimia Nervosa. Check out there song ""Oh Top of the World""..live at the White House 1973. Theres a new girl singer Tori Holub..I SWEAR SHE IS KAREN RE-INCARBATED> Listen to her!
You can see in the video how skinny Karen was from her eating disorder as early as late 1974, probably when this was filmed. So sad, no one knew much about Anorexia....yes Karen and Richard used to joke regarding Karen's lower range that "the money was in the basement."

Next? Mexico Lindo y Querido, by Playing for Change, Or Cotton Fields by Playing for Change. Really anything by Playing for Change.
This brother and sister musicality...she also is gifted to play the drums and percussion with both hands in both directions while SINGING in perfect pitch simultaneously. So talented, eh❤😊
In this song her voice just melts your heart...my favorite female singer ever....
She's my favourite singer. No other voice like that.
Her voice of an Angel always makes my eyes water RIP Beautiful Karen You will Never be forgotten@@GabrielRodriguesYT
I cry every time I hear Karen.. I'm old enough to have lived through her career and her tragic demise. Saddens me to the core. 😢💔
Had we known, the world would have moved mountains to save her life. I hope that gives Karen peace; for she was loved.
This, so much this. 😭
Well said. Rest in peace Karen.
Best brother/sister duo ever. Oh heck, best duo ever.
Karen's voice is so captivating that it's easy to forget how great Richard's orchestration is. His choice of instruments and harmonies is ourstanding.
She Had A Voice Like An Angel!

SHE WAS AWESOME.
DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOU NEVER HEAR HER TAKING HER BREATHES.
❤❤❤
can you just imagine how that voice would have matured, such sadness that she died so young
Amazing combination of an unparalleled voice and Richard's gorgeous and creative arrangements.
Karen's voice was such sweet magic. If only life had been as sweet to her.
React to “Goodby to Love”, the quintessential Carpenters song. It has absolutely EVERYTHING!
Greatest Female Vocalist of all time, what else do you need to know? RIP Karen "Angel" Carpenter.
THANK YOU ROY. You always sponser the coolest songs.
Thank you. I always try to pick songs that others will like, plus I was a big Carpenters fan back in the day. And I have their music in my car.

They had a song “Where Do I Go From Here” that was haunting and beautiful.
My heart died when she did.
I'll always love their music, brings me back to my youth

a golden voice-easy listening grew up with her on radio-shame she died young -loss like Laura Branigan died too young too-nice reaction

Oldies are goldies.
About Time My Dear For Karen Carpenter!
This genre is called "Sunshine Pop "!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe you’re hearing the carpenters for the first time. But I need you to hear Disney Hero’s and villains medley by Voctave.
The most beautiful voice ever , exploited and destroyed by critics and her brother.
More her mother than her brother...
karen my top 5 female singer in any genre !

I don’t know if you do Kentucky blue grass but you should check Allison Krause
You didn't hear this for the first time, right?
How about bit Barry Manilow next please ❤️❤️
Karen Carpenter, in my opinion, had one of the most gorgeous voices in music. She went way too soon.
