- At 2860m above sea level, Mount Longonot is one of the highest in Kenya, Africa and offers some stunning 360 degrees views. But the inside of the crater is what's very impressing!

Mount Longonot is protected by Kenya Wildlife Service as part of Mount Longonot National Park. A 3.1 km trail runs from the park entrance up to the crater rim, and continues in a 7.2 km loop encircling the crater. The whole tour "gate-around the rim-gate" of 13.5 km takes about 4-5 hours. Parts of the trail are heavily eroded and very steep but is overall very manageable. The gate elevation is around 2150 m and the peak at 2776 m but following the jagged rim involves substantially more than the 630 m vertical difference.

we climbed mt longonot with my class trip braeburn high school it was an amazing experience, up around and down, it was raining on our way back so slid all the way down!! there were no steps back then early 90's

Great that you did Mt.Longonot. Mountain climbing is one of the most therapeutic adventures. I did it in my school days and developed that "I can do" attitude!

Like 4hrs maybe but we were stopping to film a lot so it can for sure be done in a much shorter time period.

This reminds me on Dec 12th '19, I visited this place in the afternoon, it was cloudy and when I got to the summit, I was by myself, I went ahead and circumnavigated the crater, and rain caught me halfway, it was such an experience and an endurance test for myself, it took me 2hrs 30 minutes for the whole adventure

I went round that mountain and it was so hectic, it was on a high school trip and as geography students, we wanted to experience the walk around the mountain and it turned out to be a very hard thing, I remember some ladies passed out and we had to carry them, that was a day that I'll never forget.

Thanks for the awesome video of Longonot. Brings back a lot of memories. For high school I went to RVA in Kijabe which is on the side of the Rift Valley looking towards Longonot. Got to climb it many times and even went down into the crater a couple of times. Looks the same as it did in the 80s. You should climb Mt Kenya, another, but much older volcano and much higher. That takes several days of hard climbing. Or Kilimanjaro, a slightly newer Volcano and also a bit higher. Thanks again for all your wonderful videos, and stay safe.
I didn't know you can go down the crater. How was it?
When I climbed Longonot there were buffaloes raising dust on the sides and the breathtaking views are still with me to this day
@@Utadowot we just used to follow game trails down. There is no actual path into the crater and I am not sure the park would be too happy

@@marcrcbally it will be pretty against the park rules to go down the volcano area...don't dare, it's also punishable by law enforcement agencies. Dangerous.

Going round the Rim is the hardest. I did it once And vowed never to hike again... It was so hard for me... I could not walk straight two weeks after the hike 😭😭. It rained while we were up there... Going down was the hardest.

I had tips on my toe nails and going down made me not do pedicure for an year, the nails came off and my toe nails were cut and turned black for a while cause of soreness😂

Y'all need better hicking gear which is available at decathlon located at the Hub or Two rivers especially the backpack water bottle and the hicking shoes. And just for Tracy's effort which I feel her completely (coz I am not that good with altitude hikes.... I will like the video😁😁😁.

16:00 It may not erupt anytime soon but near the peak you can spot smoke coming out on the sides of the wall maybe you missed it because of the mist but we comforted ourselves it's probably geothermal from the surrounding area.
