The sound at the end was the rupture disk self destructing as you put it in. That was a crazy coincidence. you can even see irrefutable evidence in the form of the broken rupture disk having a little spike looking bit outside of the holder as the model clips through the holder.
In the context of the game: a rupture disk is a sacrificial device made to let the worker(s) know if the deaerator goes over its maximum design pressure (it will vary depending on the material used in the rupture disk (usually steel) along with its size)
In this situation you need to turn on emergency diesel generators (which takes a while) and then redirect power from power grid to generators. That way you can use LPCI when RCIC has filled Reactor to a specific level and when pressure inside reactor is low enough for LPCI to operate. Also, activate offline cooling immediately after getting power from gens.

There's a Indicator called "Rupture Disk Trouble" above the controls and gauges.
If it lights up, there's a problem with the Rupture Disk.
