I have a Landscaping co. in Texas. I use beneficial Nematodes. The microscopic round round worms eat the grub larva. They work great, are cheap, and are safe to use. We dont use any chems here because the soils so poor.
I don't believe Milky spore works...they say it take "a few years" to work but the research in turf shows it does nothing or actually made infestations worse.
great info Stan as always i think people should apply grub control every year even if they dont have grubs as a precaution also it is a good idea to put the grub control wend putting new sod down because sometimes sod has the grub in the sod from the farm and that is have you get the cross contamination to your soil.
You did not provide a solution on how to get rid of them like you stated in the title. But thanks for other information about identifying the cause....
5 bags of granular Spectracide’s Triazicide every July 1st via a Scott’s rotary spreader… and a bottle or two of the liquid version (1oz per gallon of water) applied on all shrubs, trees, perennial flowers, etc.
Everything I've learned about grub worms I've never heard it this way to look for the new tiny baby larvae. I use preventative that I put in the soil before they are there in the late spring and it kills the baby larvae much easier....but I never thought or heard to look for the baby larvae alive in active infestations. They baby grubs do surface to die pretty often with the preventative I use, ive only seen dead baby white grubs. This is unique content, thank you.
For the past few years I've been having Japanese beetles in my yard. When should I apply the grub controls? Hate those sucker. It's almost May now so would be okay now or later in June? Thanks!
A basic mixture of one tablespoon liquid dish soap and one quart of water is an excellent homemade grub worm killer and will keep grubs from making their way through your lawn. The soap in the mix will effectively smother the larvae, killing them before they can make a buffet of your yard.
Also, Japanese beetles move from the turf as adults and can defoliate trees, shrubs, flowers etc. If they get to that point you can do a foliar application of merritt, or there are several other products that work well too.
Is the presence of the mature grubs a definite indicator of fresh-hatched? We don't have sod, but do have grubs, and a huge mole problem. I have been under the impression the moles are in for the grubs.
Stanley Genadek Landscape and Construction Business Pro No problem! We are all here for each other in this business. You're a wealth of knowledge and inspire me to become better and well polished. Great videos Stan!
I suppose if you have a large property that will work. My neighborhood gets invested with these things. They're not being born in my yard. But they eat my plants which is really annoying.
Tip: If you title a video "How to get rid of Japanese Beetles" don't spend the first 2/3 of the video talking about how to spot them. That should be a different video. Answer the question you set out to answer ASAP.
john houston That isn't effective.. unless you want clean beetles haha. The dish soap thing works to break the surface tension of the water in a jar or dish-then the beetles drop instantly to the bottom and drown. Just pouring it on them is like giving them a bath. :)

Lee Kessler I have heard about those nematodes. Sounds promising.
Well I now know why my lawn is really patchy this year... Thanks Stanley!
Your welcone😄
Stanley, can you make reminder videos? I think this video should pop up yearly like a service announcement.
Good idea! Thanks for watching !
My problem is with my rosebush 🌹 do I just spray the soil if so when is the best time to spray, spring?
Great info. How do I know if my lawn is to far gone? It's more dead and yellow than anything. I treated with milky spore today

+Rafael caceres Great point- preventative maintenance.
I agree with Johnny Mow. Perfect.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him without a hat on

Go to Lowe's, Ace, home Depot, Walmart,.....get grub-x.
Duh..he DID SAY WHAT TO BUY AND WHERE TO GO🙄

Remember thats some good soil turned into carbs and fats
both you and chickens can really enjoy them
Try a Flowtron bug zapper mounted on a create with a pan of soapy water under it. I get 18-22 a night on a small lot.
While showing the audience what the beetle grubs etc look.like, why doesnt he destroy them, since he already have them in-hand.
It's already too late for that sod.
Simply too many to kill by hand like that. Best is using a preventative on the lawn before they come.
That's really fresh sod. Especially if you can still pull it back, I use grub x preferably but anything will work.
Jet Mowing I agree. :)
I have never seen those before. Down here we have bad problems with gophers and ground hogs.
Wesley Childers Your lucky then. The beetles are horrible.
Edging out a flower bed
Danny Smith Sounds like good topic. I will look into it.

I have the same question? I already laid some Grub Ex down as well as sprayed a boat load of Talstar down.

yowmemperor They are- they hunt them down and eat them.
The grub you showed at the beginning of video looks like a cutworm, not a beetle.
Love your vids you have taught me so much
Jeremy Ingram Awesome Thanks!
Okay, so I guess the question is: Why don't you spray an insecticide on the ground PRIOR to laying the sod as a preventative?
I don't even know how you would spell his pronunciation of root phonetically....lol but thanks for the vid!
Just give them to me. I will take care of them.
You can have them😄
I want them as well
Criterion or grubex. I do sales for Scott's. Goes down all season. No more dead spots in your grass.
☼Tropical Detailing☼ Thanks- I actually passed on your info to the customer at that jobsite. :)

Milkie spore is the best, hands down...
great video.
Josh Jeantet Thanks!
beneficial nematodes are working out well for me.

HB Nemotodes are a natural, non chemical treatment. Won't harm mammels, water or gardens.
Brah…I think the word you’re looking for is “ROOT,” as in “rooooote.” I do like your use of the word “GIRTH,” tho. Well done.
beetles are awesome
+이동건 The band- not the bug
I don’t know what Rits are ????😂😂😂
Can you just pick up all the larvae, put it in a glass jar, and leave it in the sun?
They are just to small and easy to miss when they first hatch. Maybe when they get bigger you could do this.
I know! I will pour milkweed water on the ground!
And on the trees
