I took a qigong intensive with BKF in the 90’s at ASU. He is the authority on qigong and taichi, and it was a privilege to see him teach. After 25 years of back issues ending in disability 8 years ago, I hope I can reconnect somewhat with his energy.

I literally cried when I saw our leader express the wu form... I have been doing something like that from my karate stuff to heal with ... now I see exactly what I was trying to do... went outside ginned up some chi... unreal inspiration... now I can learn the real thing perhaps I can spend the rest of my learning and preserving this info... I beg someone to instruct me in the wu form

    I can't believe what I heard.
First, your curriculum is heavily impressive.
Second, I can recall most of energy expension and compression perception from my past self-learning practice of Tai Chi Chang: basic positions, breathing, grounding, 'floating'.
Third, amazingly, you are able to explain some (all?) of the mechanism behind.
Forth, I watched your demonstration of Yang form. It looked so trustful/true to me. Exceptional too, since it is first time I see such a thick layer of energy emanating from the sequence. As if this energy could burst out or go back to where it belongs, anytime.
    Thank you, Sir!

Thanks Bruce- I'm glad to have found you and proud to be your student. I have put graduate school on hold to pursue Bagua, Tai Chi and meditation in greater depth, honestly my program seemed a little juvenile by comparison to the questions taken up here. I'm hoping to make it to your Chicago Workshop in November, that will be fantastic, the Bagua Mastery course is changing my life as well.

Ditto here on all points. :) I studied Ch'ang's taiji with Dr. Daniel Weng in Columbus OH in the late 1970s, I've studied various forms with various other teachers, but the Ch'ang form is my go-to set. Daniel taught applications for every movement, obviously heavily influenced by shuai-chiao, and I feel that we did get the Real Deal from him. He didn't go on about the ch'i - he quoted the Grandmaster as saying "Ch'i is correct technique correctly applied" - and he worked us hard on stance training, footwork, throwing techniques, and the 2-person forms. I'm 67 years old now, free from debilitating illness or physical decline, and I'm currently teaching a class of seniors, most of whom have a background in yoga. And I especially agree with you re: BKF's great videos. We are blessed to have him among us.

I'm from Taiwan. Ch'ang Tung Sheng was famous for his Shuai-Chiao in Taiwan. I never heard that he can do Tai Chi. I learned Tai Chi from one of Cheng Man-Ching's indoor disciples in Taiwan so I do know what Tai Chi is. I had a chance to take Daniel Weng's Tai Chi class many years ago in CA while learning at an acupuncture school. Weng knows little about Tai Chi Chuang. I can't recall he emphasized the basic principles but only taught frames. His Tai Chi applications were just Chin Na, not Tai Chi at all. People can easily get confused by Tai Chi and Shuai-Chiao. He doesn't know how to do Fa Jin to fling people. At the end of the semester, Weng touted his aerobic Tai Chi which to me is totally a garbage.
Another guy is Yang, Jwing-Ming, founder of YMAA. This guy is a skilled White Crane practitioner. Mr. Yang claimed on his YMAA website that he learned Taijiquan from Li Mao-Ching. That is incorrect. Li is a master in northern style Shaolin, not in Taijiquan. I personally learned Shaolin from Li years ago while was also learning Tai Chi at the same time. One student asked Li what are the differences between Shaolin and Tai Chi. Li said that if you play Shaolin slowly it becomes Tai Chi. What??? Hello!!! Mr. Yang created his own Tai Chi form based on White Crane.
There are many fake Chinese martial arts practitioners out there. Be careful !

Thank you for your videos. I am interested in learning the old yang movements and teachings, so I ask if you have teaching videos or books. I have learned a short-form from a teacher, but he no longer is teaching. Your openings and closings teaching was a welcomed revelation and fits a problem I've been considering. Again, thanks for your teaching videos.

Yes, it is. I like books of students' journeys under masters, especially when the other half of the book is things you can practically practice or apply. I was calling the system of chi stuff I did: 'Energy Arts', but once I found out Mr. Bruce got it officially long before I ever heard of him - gotta admit I was a bit jealous. It's a perfect name for 'qi gong' in english.
At least - a direct name.
      Best for him.

Master: one question, how many minutes you recomended practice taichi daily?

    • @mar-keywholebrook8810
      @mar-keywholebrook8810 6 років тому +2

For first couple levels of anything you should at least commit focus an hour per day, then intermediate level transcending physical and mental limitations 3+ hours per day. It depends how much your willing to put in determine what you will receive back. Equivalent exchange. The basic in my opinion. First you need meditation to pack chi into the lower Dan Tien to draw upon it later for force and capability in nei gong. To cultivate internal power is true power and vital essence, dynamic generative force. Having lifes energy within your battery Of course ^_ ^

In America people want results of action without much action or effort. People should know this already from experience. No effect without cause, this is a fundamental basic in my opinion, real truth is simplisitic and very practical.

You are truly a Master! I appreciate your logic, and way of teaching. I will try to watch and learn as much from your video"s as I can. As your video student and being from America , I have more questions than answers! and mabey less patience than our Orential brothers. Im also a old gizzer,75 years young. I have seen video"s of a martial arts Master, "for got his name" and there are are few! that repelled attackers by placing a "chi" barrier around himself, and then controlling that force to through attackers around the room in various ways. with out even touching them. Can you do this? or does this take many years of practice to do that? And does Tai Chi training lead one astray from Christianity? as being a form of Asion religion? Please answer, and thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience!

Mr. Yang is not recognized as a legitimate martial artist among Chinese martial arts societies in Taiwan, China and southeast Asia regardless his popularity in western countries where people know little about Chinese martial arts and its history. The lineage of his Tai Chi teachers is questionable. Kao, Tao and Yue, Huanzhi are not listed on the board of Yang family tree. There is little information about Yue, Huanzhi. Most Chinese articles say that Yue is a disciple of Dong, Yingjie. No records show that Yue is an indoor disciple of Yang, Chen-Fu. That is different from what stated on YMAA board.
Mr. Yang claimed on his YMAA board that he learned Taijiquan from Li Mao-Ching. What??? Hello!!! In my trained eyes, Mr. Yang's martial art is created by mixing from different styles with the root in White Crane.
I learned Tai Chi from one of Cheng Man-Ching's indoor disciples but never became an official disciple of him. I can claim that I'm the X generation of Cheng but my name is never listed on the board of Cheng family tree. Got it?
Mr. Yang's Tai Chi has too many flaws like beginners per my trained eyes. He added too many unnecessary movements to confuse people. Never saw him demonstrating Taiji Jin anywhere. The conclusion is that Mr. Yang created his own Tai Chi form based on White Crane. All of his skills are from White Crane. Is it all a commercial tinge lie?

After learning the Yang short form from an assistant instructor of Wm. C.C. Chen , I sat in on many Aikido classes , and found that , in truth , this Yang style I learned is practically a catalog of Aiki - jujutsu techniques as they had been preservedin Aikido. So I went back to my instructor excited to demonstrate some of the obvious correlations. He got mad and didn't even want to hear about it. An example ? What we call " single - whip ' is an aiki - jujutsu escape from a wrist hold applied bytwo people , one on each wrist . What we call ' Press ' is really the Aikido kote - gaeshi !! After Roll - back to break the forearm, you come back with a nasty wrist - breaker. Yipes. I wish Mr. Frantzis would comment on this.

If you have learned Asia history carefully, Japanese started learning almost everything from China since Tang dynasty roughly 1000 years ago. Of course they learned Chinese martial arts then it became Karate and Judo. A lot of Japanese immigrated to Brazil in 1900's and Judo became Jujitsu there.
