    It is so interesting to see these tempura and onigiri in Okinawan way. I’m from Kanto area and Okinawan food looks always fascinating. 沖縄の料理は、関東の料理と違いがありますね。マヒマヒの天ぷらはすごく興味があります。

    Mahalo for another Okinawa food video. BTW, the tempura probably reminds you of the Hawaii tempura because so many eateries in Hawaii are Okinawan owned.

    There is nothing wrong with enjoying a day in the room. I freakin love doing that. The room is a rather large part of my vacation experience. I am not at all the busybody that it seems is common of tourists. I don't need to do everything possible in a tight time schedule. That actually ruins the relaxing enjoyment I went on vacation for in the first place.

    I know that one! The potato is white in color, but tastes sweet! I think there's sometimes a tinge of purple. Now, look up *Okinawan purple yam* those things are intense.
    One of my treasured childhood memories is riding for what felt like hours on DaBus then going to Patti's Chinese Kitchen in Ala Moana Center.

    • @score2high
      @score2high 4 роки тому

      Sorry to be technical, but it's an Okinawan sweet potato, not yam. Since you mentioned in another comment that you live in the SFBA (as do I), you can find the Okinawan sweet potato at some of the Asian markets like 99 Ranch, County Square, and Oto's (Sacramento). But it's mislabeled as purple yam. I never did check out Marukai, Mitsuwa, or Nijiya for it, but they probably have it, too.

    Wish you could write travel books, as I feel you would do inexpensive and luxurious trips very well, even having maps of areas to show people where to go and the rich places to visit if you have the money and the normal budget places, and even low budget you would do showing how to eat on a few dollars a day staying at cheaper places....yes I can see the book in my mind, with maps of the areas, and bike tours, or taxi tours, or renting cars...you would do it so well. A book for each region. Would help us English so much. Hope one day it happens.

    What a relaxing and interesting video. Shinichi, once again I forgot to eat first before watching your program! It's always a huge mistake for me as I sit there staring at the screen and my stomach will start growling and the inevitable drooling will begin!😋🤣. I always enjoy the style of these vlogs as it feels like I am sharing the meal with you! 😊. The onigiri was the one I wanted first. Everything would have been eaten, I assure you. I agree with you that when I am traveling alone I eat most of my meals in my hotel room. I can be totally comfortable and enjoy my meal. I like to bring in take away food as it is generally less expensive and usually more interesting and tasty than room service. I love room service but it's so expensive and the menu is rather limited usually. Thanks for this vlog today. Have a pleasant week. ❤🙏🌎

    Hi Sinichi! It’s been a while since I’ve watched. Been sick...but it didn’t hit me too hard. My mother, though...she’s been in the hospital for three weeks. She’s coming home Friday (2 days from now). I talked to her this morning and she’s feeling much more normal. Of course she can’t have any visitors so I’ve just been calling her a couple times a day. But to cheer her up once she was able to stay awake and start eating, etc.. I dropped off a care package for her and put a cell phone and charger in there. I’ve been sending her links to your videos...from all your and Satoshi’s channels. It’s given us more to talk about and kept her spirits high. So, thank you for always sharing your eats and adventures with us! It means more than you know. 💕
    P.S. my fav tempura is also sweet potato, but it’s the orange sweet potato 🍠 more common in the US. My second favorite is zucchini!! I missed watching you while in the toughest part of this virus, but now I’m able to catch up and say hello. So...HELLO!!!! ✌🏻💕😊
    Edit: I forgot....I also love squid, but live in a landlocked state so getting fresh squid isn’t easy. Every time I order it...it’s rubbery, as freezing squid just seems to make it so...no matter how you prepare it. 😢 Prior to getting sick my mother and I went to a local Italian restaurant. We’d never been there before, but want to support the local, small businesses during this trying time. They had tempura squid on their appetizer menu!!! Can you believe it....at an Italian restaurant!! 😮
    Come to find out, the woman who owns the place is married to a Japanese gentleman....from Fukuoka. After talking with them I decided to try the squid.
    OMG! It was the BEST tempura I’ve ever had and the best squid I ever had. Come to find out, he has a tank with live squid in the kitchen...!!!!! So it’s always fresh 😃. We’ve decided that this is our new favorite restaurant. Also....they have Italian AND Japanese menus!!! 🥰

    In an ideal world I'd know Japanese at a good level and retire in Okinawa. Sigh. 2nd choice is to retire back where I grew up in Hawaii. One trend I like is Hawaii has more Japanese stuff now, more stores, etc. and I'm not sure how else to describe it but in Hawaii you can kind of dial up or down how "Asian" you want to eat and live. I'm actually half English and half West Asian, so I think sometimes people think I'm a weaboo when I'm shopping in my beloved Japanese stores here in the SF Bay Area but hey, ppl, do you see me buying Pocky, Hi-Chew, and Ramune? No! I'm the one buying some saba to cook for dinner (Americans really don't do saba) maybe some natto for b'fast, and so on.
