As a big Who fan, We saw them in 72, 73, and 77!!!!! In 1973, we drove down to St Louis for the Quadrophenia tour---- There was this Southern rock band nobody had heard of as the warm-up band--- And they were great!!!!! It was Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!!!
My mother was the same. Always wanted to travel and never got out of the USA. :( But, when I was in my early 20's, I actually won a weekend trip to the car racing in S. Carolina from a radio call-in show. Funnily, I never listened to country stations, I just happened to see a photo on TV the night before of Merideth Baxter-Birney. The sound was low, so I thought she had died or something. I turn it up in time for the guy to say, "Be the 1st caller tomorrow to identify this person to win...". So, at work the next day, I turned on the station & set my phone to speed dial-lol. I couldn't believe it when I got through and WON! Mom & I had the BEST time together. We were taken by private tour bus from her home to the airport, then jetted away to SC. We all got given goodie bags and drinks & food, just for us. Then, when we landed, we were treated to a "meet the drivers" dinner. The next morning, we were tour bused to the raceway. They had a huge market going outside of it-- which was one of our favourite things to do together! We shopped & watched the race from great seats. After going back to our hotel, I walked to grab a bottle of wine and we ordered pizza delivery to our room. We were back home the following day. I still have my black onyx & silver ring I bought at the market, made by local Indians. It was a really special trip & I'm so happy to think of how happy my mother was that weekend. :)
@SeanD808 yeah, that was rude, but unfortunately, this is very common in the Western world. I rarely see people talking about their parents with respect
I saw Helen Mirren in _Teeth'n'Smiles_ at that theatre. It was a matinée performance and because the theatre wasn't very full we were all invited to sit as close to the stage as we'd like. I sat in the second row. Astonishing performance, I've never forgotten it.

Great point about Dudley Moore nicking a bit of Keith. Sooner or later someone should do a high quality biopic of Moon. His connections to all sorts of people were incredible and almost always intensely unique and memorable, if not insane.

It's so interesting to compare the individual members of such amazing bands like The Who and Led Zeppelin since each member is so talented. If I had to choose, I'd go with Moon on drums, JPJ on bass (the guy is just so multi-talented!), Page on guitar, and Daltrey as lead singer.
When the new 6th Form building was nearly completed at the college where I was Performing Arts Technician in central London in 2009, the head of the department was in negotiation with her agent and in with a chance to name our new theatre after her (and hopefully then get her to open it and/or visit as patron). I have been madly in love with Helen Mirren for as long as I can remember. One of the most intelligent and beautiful women I have ever seen. You would've never known that the other character was played by Helen Mirren. You don't find out until the end of the episode to find out she was playing two people.
