Most Americans find it hard to retire comfortably amid economy crisis. Some have close to nothing going into retirement, my question is, do I pull cash from my 401k and buy a house, or spread my money in stocks for cashflow? I'd love to afford my lifestyle after retirement?

Yes you might say that but More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire without any investment. The US handles most of the worlds research and development for medical drugs and equipment. The US bears the brunt of the costs and when those items ship to other countries, they get cheaper rates which allow for universal healthcare. A big problem with universal healthcare is the costs associated with immigration. Many of the industrialized nations that have universal healthcare struggle financially when immigration gets to high or out of control. The US would have many issues financially if universal healthcare is enacted. Despite what media say, money doesn't just appear without repercussions.

In the US it's the stress of our healthcare system here and it's crazy cost. Healthcare between say 55 to 65 Medicare.....gap years no employer coverage.....crazy money to buy coverage in the US. My husband's retirement plan from Deloitte a huge worldwide firm makes zero contributions to healthcare and the cost for two people is currently $44,000.00 a Year. So I continue to work for my employer while he is retired for healthcare that only cost $17,000.00 annually. I place these numbers out here for the wider world to see the craziness of our out of control cost of healthcare here in the US.

The corporate 401k firms in the US scare everyone with their minimum numbers needed for retirement. It’s a whole industry interested in having more of your money so they can make more! America is great…thanks for sharing your perspectives, very refreshing.

    • @tscoff
      @tscoff 20 днів тому

One thing that I discovered/noticed by digging into the numbers is the online retirement tools don’t factor in how much I’m saving for retirement. I’m able to max out my 401k plan and Roth IRA, which comes to $38,500 that I’m investing for retirement this year. Plus once I retire I won’t be working so I won’t be paying into Social Security or Medicare which is another 7.62% of my income. When I multiply my annual income by .9238 and then subtract $38,500 from that number it shows that I need a lot less in retirement than the free online retirement planning tools say I’m going to need.
Everyone needs to figure out their own plan for retirement, and each and every one of us needs to do it intelligently and carefully. We can’t trust the generic, “Here is what you’ll need” guesses because those guesses don’t factor in our individual situations.

I was thinking while watching your good discussion here that we get our view warped in our country and in our culture. I hope to change that right now, and I appreciate you both and the discussion here as it made the case for me. Wherever you go you will need health care. If you can get a residence visa in some countries you may qualify for health insurance. If not, you will have to pay out of pocket. In less developed countries you will want to go to the better private hospitals. Treatment for something serious may not be as cheap as you think. Medicare, on the other hand, will pay most of the costs for treatment.

Good morning and good evening it's 6 AM here in Southern Idaho. I found your UA-cam videos from a fellow that does a lot of repositioning cruises I forget his name you mentioned him in one of your videos.
I retired when I was 58 and my wife recently retired last October we are thinking of doing the exact same thing you guys are doing but it's hard to get my wife on board it is a little nerve-racking.
3 years ago we downsized had a beautiful 3000 square foot home on an acre and now we live in a 1600 square foot home on a small lot in a small town just West of Twin Falls Idaho.
I am now 66 and my wife is 58. We should have done this years ago but better late than never. Was curious if you have a video which shows all your camera gear. I have been watching your how to UA-cam videos and I am really excited about getting on board and doing this. We have a pretty good size nest egg and once we do this we could sell our house which we own free and clear For additional Financial security.
We will probably start out with small trips for instance I found a repositioning cruise from Seattle to Tokyo for $868 each in Oct 2024. 15 days We were then thinking of staying a month in Tokyo after the cruise and then flying back just to get the feel of it but it's too soon for us and my wife is a little nervous.
So we are taking your advice and getting rid of a lot more stuff. We don't have children so if we did sell our house we would have to rent when we came back in the states or live with friends.
I do have a friend of mine that lives in Cambodia I believe it's called kamphot. He has been living there for a little over 20 years. And loves it.
Anyway just wanted to say hello and keep up with your videos my wife and I binge watched a quite a few of them yesterday. Have a beautiful evening.

I started saving way too late (age 60) and thought I’d never have enough to retire because I had zero assets - no property, 401k, or market investments. But I was able to pay off all my debt, slash expenses and save 70% of my income for the last 4 years. Now I know I can live comfortably on under $2500/month from Social Security and a small pension whether I’m in the US or another country. I don't even want the big house, new car, expensive vacations or other "luxuries" anymore.

Speaking for myself, this is probably the best video you have put out! ❤👏🏼I am a recently retired teacher (NYC, USA_ 33 years of teaching!) and I already had a feeling that I was actually better off in my retirement than most other people my age retiring from non-governmental institutions, here in the east/USA, and of course, globally speaking even more so. But you are quite right in that human tendency is to compare oneself to others; with the sharing of such great info and your positivity and confidence, you guys have helped confirm this feeling I had: that I’m actually in a good place financially, specially due to retirement. It is easy to question your retirement readiness when one lives in such an expensive city_ I could buy a house 2 states away with 1 year’s rent in NYC (your friends from Cali…😂). This content you’ve shared made me realize that with a little planning, downsizing in the home country/state, and tightening spending here, where everything is in dollars and quite expensive, I could most likely afford to do quite a lot of leisure traveling during the year. 💪🏼👏🏼👌🏼Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge and expertise!🙏🏼 Be blessed 😇

I enjoyed this video but I do have one bone to pick with your presentation. The elephant in the room, I think, is health care. Most of the world has access to some type of national health plan so they avoid fears of becoming destitute due to medical bills. The United States does not have this assurance and we Americans can struggle to feel totally confident about our status in retirement because of the threat of medical bills.

    • @oksanatoofor4470

Americans need to emigrate when they reach retirement if they want to enjoy life without financial pressures. The health services in pretty much any other country are as good as, if not better than the US, and are a tiny fraction of the costs. Many countries will give you a visa without you purchasing health insurance - just pay for a test or a surgery if you find you need it. (And it’s likely to cost a lot less than you pay in insurance premiums in the US). Other countries require you to buy insurance but, as an example, in Spain insurance costs less than €100/month for full coverage - tests, doctors, medications, hospitals, surgeries etc etc.

What happened to Medicare? Medicare Advantage plans with no monthly fees? Aren't they still around? Generally speaking, countries have government pension systems. They seldom pay out anywhere near what Social Security (a government pension) pays. Few people have private pensions. Most Britons receive around £13,000 a year and usually have no other pension. In less developed countries, pensions are pitifully low and not nearly enough to live on. Affluent countries like Australia seem to do well.
