Apollo’s Reaction to His New House

- This is the first time Apollo, Soleil, and Ophelia have seen the house we're moving to. Apollo handled it pretty well all things considered.

"this is the new place"
Apollo: "great, when do we go back to the old one?"
They move again
Apollo “can we go back?”
Such child-like thinking.
I remember a lot of friends having to have goodbye rituals for their old houses. Their littles needed that closure to understand moving on.
How do you explain this to a bird?
@@Cherokee51774Yeha it's crazy how human-like they are sometimes
Greys are famously neophobic. This is a bird who was too cautious to approach his own birthday cake. I hope he adjusts quickly to his new digs, I'm sure it'll be stressful but that's just his nature.
@@Rutherford_Inchworm_III I'm sure it's instinct. Doesn't help to be super smart. His little brain is probably rattled. Lol
You know our man is stressed when he ignores pistash.
I bet he got several pistash for being such a Good Boy once he got home
He's such a weird little intellectual, I love him. He does NOT like this weird place and wants to be back where he feels safe. Meanwhile the girls are typical caiques and are like "yeah whatever".
I was also interpreting him not eating the snack as nervousness - pets never seem to like when they move to a new place, especially cats.
Dropped it like a hot potato, lol
The girls' synchronized step up around 1:50 was adorable
I noticed that too!!
right?! it was the cutest thing!! 😍
I was gonna say that too.
So cute!
Literally 👯♀️ energy, so cute!
Lol, Apollo's first words 'ready to go back?'
It's funny but also I think hes just used to hearing the owner say "ready to go back?" to him before he goes cagey time
@fettyblap4436
Idk. Like a typical grey hes not happy with new things. Being taken out of the familiar cage (safe spot) and being in a new place, it wouldnt be unusual for him to ask to go back.
Same thing with "i wanna go outside". He doesnt want to be in the scary new place so hes asking repeatedly to leave.
Beautiful home. Apollo wasn't just "saying words". He was sharing his feelings of being unsure and frightened through his words and actions. That's amazing.
Apollo you are SO smart, you will adapt in no time ❤
Congrats on your new home
Greys aren't typically fans of new things or places.
Those floors ❤. Beautiful and easy to clean!
He is a very smart bird 🐦 ❤
Hears door alarm sound
Immediately copies it but 3x louder
For sure, that is just a taste of the new wonderful sounds they get to listen to now.
The noise he did is actually the GoPro beeps with volume cranked up. It took me too long to figure out how to turn off the beeps, now they’re a permanent bird feature 😭
@@ApolloandFrenswell, dang it. That's a loud one. Gah! How do you turn it off NOW? Miss my grey, and very much enjoy yours.
@@ApolloandFrensMakes sense, Apollo actually did one more beep than the alarm did. He would never slack like that.
@@ApolloandFrens Try installing the latest bird software updates and reboot him. Should fix the beeping bird feature.
4:12 He picked that up that noise SO FAST!!!
I hate moving house waaaa! 😫
That my friend is the power of a Syrinx
I felt like he answered it 😅
New Bad Noise Learned!
0:36 On one hand this shows just how incredibly smart Apollo is, but on the other hand it breaks my heart seeing him homesick for your old place 😭
Many animals experience neophobia. It's normal and totally okay because these birbs clearly demonstrate the adaptability their mom and dad have worked so hard on developing in them.
@@irenafarm thank you for teaching me a word ("Neophobia") that describes my daily existence
@@irenafarmIt makes perfect sense. It means theyre gonna play it extra safe in new areas. Beats exploring caves like humans do
Greys aren't fans of change, generally speaking.
@@irenafarm especially African Greys!
I love how Apollo instantly mimicked the alarm sound.
4:12
I hope that once you get settled, get the first movie of Shrek, put it on the computer or TV, and the music 🎶 Apollo will love, and he will see Shrek. All the best, guys.
Sounds like Tori loved it as well...
@ConkersBFDN64 lol, thanks. I miss my grey, and listened to that several times! 😊
My parrotlet loves Apollo and while we watched, he immediately voiced his version of the alarm, too 😂
Dalton actually wearing "shroks" made my day 🤣
Agreed!
@@AIvey-qs1sohe did?
Lol, I didn't even notice that at first. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm usually more observant.
Came here to say this 😂 when my brain finally made the pun I was elated.
where shroks
Apollo really went: ‘Hmmm… 😒nah, can we go back?’ Honestly he is such a mood 😭
Featuring Apollo repeatedly trying to fly away before realizing he's afraid of literally everything in the room besides the perch he just left.
Guest appearance by Shrock.
The perch is at least familiar. "What is this horrible empty space? why wasn't the old home good enough?" I can imagine these thoughts going through his mind.
Ophelia and Soliel: "Sure we'll have a snack. Oh look, a window."
Apollo: "AGGGHHH OMGWTF RED ALERT WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!?!"
😮😮😮😮😮😮MAY DAY!!! MAY DAY!!! SOS!!! SOS!!!
1:50
That synchronized step up was so cute~
Love! ❤
What a beautiful new house! Apollo takes one look and says, “You ready to go back?” 😂😂 look at the beautiful windows, Apollo! Lots of woodwork to chew! Congratulations, Tori and Dalton!
Hey, no chewin'!
@@CS-tc4zy**continues to chew**
I have 2 Grey's and that was my first thought...all that wonderful wood to chew!! Lol
I love how the girls take everything in stride, nothing seems to bother them much at all.
They can’t clearly communicate what they want like Apollo, so I guess they’ve just had to learn to go with the flow
@@Bruh-ob9miThe girls' body language was so calm tho. They just wanted to look out the windows. :)
Soleil: We pooping the moment the new furniture is in?
Ophelia: Absolutely!
Purdy girls
I think "outside" is actually "not my house" so he's saying he IS outside in the new house. It's good he's thinking about the environment instead of just being skurred.
To me, his requests to go outside seemed like that was another step to "go back." Like, we go outside, then we go back- wanna go outside?
Or maybe he just wanted to go outside lol
I agree ☺️
@@sleeperholdASMR He was afraid of the new place, and wanted out of there.
Or outside is I wanna go home.
@@lauraallen55
The sound in the empty new place echoed in a weird way. I think it probably was a big part of what scared him.
"This is our new place"
"Ready to go back? 😄"
That literally got me off guard 💀
Love how he was there for 10 seconds and wanted to go back 🤣 congrats tho!
as an autistic person myself, somtimes i think animals like Apollo have autism. they are sensitive to little sensory things, like me!
Poor Apollo wants to go outside because he not used to the new place. Hope he feels at home soon.
I honestly feel bad for Apollo. Due to the fact that he is in a brand new environment that he is not really used to yet. Don’t worry Apollo. Step by step. He will get used to the environment in his new home in no time!
I was looking for this comment
Stepup by stepup in Apollo's case
Exciting times..congratulations on your new digs..Apollo and the girls know they are in a new home..they will adjust rather quickly. Love the new place..lots of windows !!!!
@@MaximizedAction step up? Good step up!
Lmao. He can't read. Who the hell you talking to?
Some birds get a birdhouse
Apollo gets an entire house
Most birds get to be outside
@SnappyGW
He does too. He is going to have an aviary for outside time. A pet parrot isnt like a wild bird. I rescue dogs. And people often dump dogs in the wilderness thinking theyd be free and happy. But doing that is like dumping a 10 year old kid out there with a knife and telling them to go be free. They are domesticated animals that rely on humans. They die out there. Even feral dogs live in or around human settlements.
Apollo and the girls are the same.
They arent wild, they are human raised birds. Even if you took apollo to a flock of wild greys, he wouldnt be accepted nor would he know how to communicate with them, find food etc.
Poor guy! I had the same reaction to our new house when we moved when I was a toddler, and I'm pretty sure Apollo is smarter than I was at that age.
Ha! I did too.
My dad showed me the new place when I was like 2 and all I wanted to do was go home.
Newness is scary to many creatures, including african greys and baby humans.
First thing he said is "Ready to go back." That bird really is hilarious.
Burps are the christening noises for the new place.
What a good boy.
😂😂
I thought everyone knew that? No? Just me?
"Here what I think of my supposedly new abode"
Have to burp in every room to really make it a home
This is one of my favorite videos from you so far, because it seems clear that Apollo is genuinely expressing himself instead of performing tricks. I suppose the tricks are a necessary part of the learning process and teaching human children to communicate isn't really very different from doing so with a talking bird.
I love how we all communally forget that Apollo is still a bird until he has a meltdown, shrieks, and flies in a circle. XD Intelligent or not, he can still get spooked and will respond in a birdlike manner.
“Okay cool place now when do we go back…………..wait, WHAT!?”
Poor Apollo. It's good that he has such patient parents and 2 sisters that seem to be a lot more bold when it comes to new things.
Don't worry, Apollo. I know new things can be scary, but you'll find a lot of new squirrel and bird frens in your new neighborhood!
You'll have to have a LOT of security with an aviary outside. You showed the outside of your house and that would make it easier for people to find you. I remember when someone tried to kidnap Sparky the Swearing Parrot!
They wouldn't leave the birds outside unattended, probably.
@@rustyshackleford7660, you can't. Risk of cats, snakes, etc. means that you have to be outside while they are.
@@flyingphoenix113 i know, that's why I said what I said
@@flyingphoenix113 Thats half the point of an aviary.
They can just get a dog to protect the birds.
Can't wait for him to start marking the entire place as his territory with dust everywhere
DYINGGGGGG at Apollo instantly saying: let’s go back
I mean, he's not wrong. A house without furniture is pretty eerie.
2:04 not the SHROCK Crocs 😂😂😂😂
Lol 😂😂😂
“You ready go back?” I mean those choice of words are so amazing! Was it only an illusion that Apollo seemingly understood those words and used them to reflect his thoughts or do birds have a greater capacity for language comprehension than we realize?
I think Dalton says "Ready to go back" to Apollo whenever they go out somewhere and it's time to go home. So Apollo has taken those words to mean "Our trip is over, it's time to go back home."
Greys especially do have the capability of understanding words and using them in context. I have a 26 year old Grey and he demonstrates it all the time.
Birds definitely do learn to use words in context.
@@lozferris1719 They are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. Parrots and corvids are up there on the intelligence scale.
I do genuinely believe they associate words/sounds with certain actions, but what is more I also believe they're capable of using words as commands for us, to express their wants and needs. My Churchill (African Grey) is 4 now, and he's not particularly keen on the hoover. He is not afraid of it but he does not like it all the same... so he has taken it upon himself to continuously mimic the sound the hoover makes as it is turned off, and loses suction. The noise of it losing suction he will repeat continuously, and I genuinely believe he's trying to tell it/me to stop hoovering. Very intelligent...
I think “wanna go outside” equals let’s go back home.
I found Gizmo and other greys. Dude! Apollo is starting to talk like them. They are older and can have a little bit of conversation. Apollo is getting there at only 2 years old. It's amazing.
Apollo is only two? Wow!
Apollo is four, but yeah it's very impressive.
Those were beautiful floors...glad Apollo can fly easily thru the place & lots of windows to watch everything happening outside. Really great house for everyone...Congratulations.
Apollo is brilliant. Wanna go back ?? He understands. New home is an adjustment for all involved and Apollo will adapt quicker than u might imagine. His trust in his human is huge. Hope u enjoy the new digs guys.
It's still so amazing to me to have a pet that can really interact so clearly with you verbally. It's incredible. The most I get from my cats is a few meows. Love this channel.
Teach your cat to communicate with AIC buttons, and you'll get a lot more than that. Animals know what we make the effort to teach them, and it's enrichment for both of you.
He'll probly feel better when there's furniture to make the room less echoey. I'm sure his owners know that. Just comforting the audience. Sending love to Apollo 💕
not sure about bird senses, but with a cat or dog I'd suggest that once the soft furniture is in place it would make the new house smell more like home/family too
You are being so patient with Apollo as he’s obviously having a difficult time adjusting to this new environment
Congrats and good luck with the move! Love the shrocks! I hope Apollo, Ophelia, and Soleil settle in quickly!
❤❤As long as Dalton, Tori,Apollo, Soleil, and Ophelia are there to give him comfort and assurance he will be fine
I’m glad to know that even a well socialized grey is afraid of new things. I had to stay in an Airbnb with my grey for a week and a half and he screamed every day unless I put his cage outside.
I don't think any Grey is a lover of change! Mine isn't that's for sure. I didn't know an Airbnb would allow a parrot, so that's cool to know!
@@lauraallen55 I'm sure it depends on the Airbnb.
@@carmenattallah6244 Oh definitely! I just didn't know it was an option anywhere.
Aww he was so scared. Kept his feathers so close to himself. I know he'll adjust but he was so funny when he said, "Do you want to go back?" I know you know this already but be careful around the painted trims and walls as it's an older house and more than likely it has lead in the paint. Congrats on the new place lovely wood flooring. Best of luck. Love Luna and Nova.
Ahh the fun that is having to move birds to a new place. It takes my rescue grey a year to fully adjust, she absolutely hates change.
Poor Apollo, but we could see how smart he is by his talking, making noises and saying he wanted to go out, also loved that the girls didn't seem bothered by the new house, so cute
“I deserve a snack for being freaked out like this! Never mind, I don’t want it.” 😂😂
“But save it for later because I’ll be ready later!”
"Ready to go back?" 🥺💔 Congratulations on the new house! It looks super nice!
Congrats to you all once again! Best of luck with all the remaining bits!
Dalton rocking the killer shrocs during the house tour
“Ready to go back”! Oh bless his heart. It’s got to be confusing for him. He learned glask at the old place on the windows & kitchen backsplash.
Nice house. He’ll have fun learning new things in the new house.
I have now been a bird guy for over 20 years. Never had any kind of bird until I had a giant macaw for my first bird. You did the right thing by taking them over and introducing them to the new digs and then taking them back home, if that's what you did. These birds have great memories and they find comfort in things that are familiar. Y'all are great bird friends. Always great to see the way you treat them.
You know he's scared when he isn't saying his -ocks
Or eating pistach
The new house is adorable! Lots of glassk and purple
Wow! What a nice home you have. I'm so happy for you.
I know moving is stressful especially for animals. But they will enjoy nice views from the windows and in their aviary. Wishing you all the best.🎉🎉🎉🎉🤗👍🎉
Oh woooow! Your house is so beautiful! I hope the birdies adapt good 👍
Laminate/wooden flooring throughout is a great choice for free flying (and pooping!) birds
I love whenever birds fly without gliding, since they're indoor, it sounds like minihelicopters and can be overwhelming at first.
1:52 I love how they step up in sync.
You both are SO good with your birds and patient not reacting when they get anxious or afraid. Well done 👍
Living the American dream, right down to the house with the white picket fence. Very nice
I absolutely lost it when he said, “You ready go back?”
It’s always stressful when moving to a new, unfamiliar place, for everyone included.
"Oh my god that sucks" really got me lol. Another bad sound!
Video in a nutshell:
“SCREEEEEEEE”
That's a beautiful new house , and soon Apollo won't wanna go back ! He was very comfortable in his old home . The girls are impressive man! Ophelia and Soleil just didn't bat an eyelid! They will help bruh to settle in ❤😊
Congrats on your new home! It is wonderful!
And we can see the anxiety in your birds-- you did so well, being patient and gentle with them.
"You ready go back?" That was so adorable yet sad 😢
First time I've heard african gray scream. What a noise D:
I think a big part is the empty rooms that are just unusual and new. Hopefully he will adapt faster once the rooms will be fuller.
The "wanna go back" was adorable. It feels he tried to say everything he heard or said during outside walks lol
Apollo: no, I am not, in fact, ready to
Congratulations with your new house , it’s beautiful and spacious!! Best of luck and your bird friends ! 🎉
Wanna go outside = take me home. Poor Apollo this will take him some time to adjust to his new surroundings.
He will love exploring and finding new things as soon as he has had time to adjust. He is with family, that is what is important.❤
I like how the first words out of his beak is him wanting to go home 😂😢
Congratulations to all of you!
I love seeing how gentle you are with Apollo and “the girls”.
Apollo takes one look around at the new place and says "ready to go back" yep that says it all LOL!
'Is It Bird Out' really got me! Such a smart boykie!
When he says 'I wanna go outside' I think he means 'I want to go back home' (Ancient home....)It will take time to adjust ...
You are so great with Apollo and the girls. Of course it’s stressful for them, however you are helping them so much with their transition. It won’t take long the way you are nurturing them through this major change in all your lives👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼good luck in your new home. I can’t wait to see your new aviary!!
This is so cool congrats you guys deserve a better home! to many mote memorys in a new home!
“You ready to go back” 🤗 awwwww poor Apollo. Change is tough little guy. But home is where your family is & they’ll never leave you 💕 🦜 Love the house too. Very nice place
Awww Apollo is so cute
I love that he knows you're safe and comes back to you. That ahows your bond. Ive known bird owners who had to catch their scared birds.
..and this will be the bird room..and this will be the bird room..lol all are the bird room.
The girls settling in pretty quick, Apollo will soon follow. He has such wonderful parents, I know you will help him transition to the new house. Congrats on the new place, looks lovely.
You ready to go back? 😂
Sweet baby, he wants to go home. I know you guys will work through it and he will soon love the new house.
4:10 Sounds like Apollo found a new bad noise to make... unless that one isn't quite as loud as the first bad noise, but there's a lot of reverb heard after the one in this vid. I wonder if you will have to disconnect the door alarm or whatever that was so Apollo doesn't make the noise.
Now that he knows the sound, it won't matter if the alarm never goes off again. Apollo learned a new noise, and he'll probably remember it forever...
Poor babies ! They are so scared. Just make sure they get lots of love and patience ❤️
I love Apollo 💯💯🗣️
This is my first time seeing Apollo and the girls. Apollo is so intelligent! I liked it when he asked, " ready to go back? " and when he asked if there was a bird outside!
Also, the girls are beautiful! It was really cool when they stepped on your hand together. Perfectly in sync.
Enjoyed!
Awww… I loved “ready to go back”. Such a smart bird. Love Apollo.❤❤❤
What an upgrade new place looks great I'm sure Apollo and the girls will eventually settle in! Once you are settled i think it's time to have a party🎉🎵🎉🎶🎉😊
Awww he said are you ready to go back lol
I feel like this shows his feelings because when you finally get in there and take him out he says "ready go back?" and it's like wow he really knows. You guys have done pretty amazing in training him to really understand things. Also super great that he took it so well despite not taking the treat. Birds are so sensitive to changes and I think you guys did a wise thing by having them come check it out before moving everything in so it's not so much of a shock. I was actually surprised the girls flew on the window seal like they did. Hopefully they'll help him feel better about it all as time goes on. Even though they're not the same species, I feel the fact that he isn't alone does really help that process out a lot. For all of them too though, not just Apollo.
Idk how to process the fact that my reaction to new and scary things is the same as a parrot's: screeching and running away as far as possible
We are parrots.
You may be on the spectrum
@@kaisouseru2466 I probably am, but that was a hyperbolic joke
I must say the birds seem very adaptable to their new home
Your home looks vintage ...what a nice place to live
Happy home coming ❤
From now on it's: No chewin' on the window seals!
Congrats on the new home!
Animals have no clue what's going on and we can't explain it to them. Lots of patience and never push them.
As long as he has you and your partner and the girls, Apollo will do great.
I bet he will settle in and feel better once the furniture, something he is familiar with, is moved in.
My previous coworker at the vet I worked for rescued parrots. She had an African Grey who loved to mimic the low-battery sound of the fire alarm. We changed out the battery 3x, fire dept came out to make sure everything was good...etc everything you could think of.
Except the African Grey
