Great tour of your workshop, one thing, you use the normal quote of "Jack of all trades, master of none" but you forgot the end part of the quote that makes it even more useful, the full quote is "Jack of all trades, master of none, but is still better than a master of one"
Finally got a chance to sit down and watch this video. What a treat! Thanks for taking the time to show off your work space. You have an amazing well equipped area. Keep the videos coming. Thanks for sharing!
Ha I was going to make the start up capacitor comment for the belt sander too, but I am not te first. 🙂 they are really easy to buy and change out. Will do the one on my jointer shortly
Ive just checked and discovered it’s not capacitor but the bronze bearing holding the shaft to the wheel. It’s very worn down and creating friction. Probably why it was squeaking as well!
for th ebelt sander there should be a capacitor connected to the motor and it not expensive at all. by changing that you should have that running like dream.
Yes! Please look at doing one of Heath Robinson's contraptions. I've often thought it would be fertile ground for an automaton maker. Might need a bigger workshop though. 😂
Heath Robinson is definitely on my list of makes. I have recently renovated my workshop. I have some new machines and better storage and organisation. My creative workspace is an absolute delight to work in! So it is, in some sense, a lot bigger now!
Thank you, Yes, most definitely it’s been hard work. Making my automata I feel relatively confident about, but trying to market and sell your creations has been a massive learning curve. I am surviving though and living my dream!

Great tour. It’s great that you have been able to do this full time, must be a lot of hard work to make it work!
Thank you,

My name is Oliver as well, living in Canada, been making automata for a year and you are living MY dream!
This is helpful but when are we getting a tour about the inside of your mind?
I wouldn’t quite know how to document that!😁
So great to see the workspace. Thanks!
Your very welcome Mark.
Just found you on UA-cam, you do amazing work.
Great workshop tour Oliver, just found your channel, so will enjoy seeing your automation stuff
Belo espaço para trabalhar!
Excellent thank you for the tour
very interesting. you've packed so much into a small space.
Thanks Paul, with so much stuff I try to be practical. If there is an empty space then I tend to fill it!

wow, awesome shop and awesome work! Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for the tour, great video!
Cheers Mike
Thank you for the tour. It is inspiring and amazing. I love automata for my hobby. I just started to make basic automata for practice. :)
Thanks Daniel and all the best in your automata journey!
thank you so much. :)
What thickness birch ply do you use on your toothed gears and pinned gears? Thank you. Spectacular work!
I use 6.5mm or 1/4” thickness birch plywood
@@mechanicalOlly1977 Thank you.
Nice!
What was your job before this?
hi oliver what make are the storage boxes you have a fettish for like your tour
Hi, glad you enjoyed the tour.
They are STANLEY FATMAX pro storage organisers. They come in two different sizes of depth. I highly recommend.
How were you able to afford all that?
Gave up your job, you say. I'm guessing toolmaker?
I would of loved to have been a tool maker.
Unfortunately, I was a flooring contractor, which is a little less exciting!
@@mechanicalOlly1977 Well your workmanship is exacting none the less. Fantastic work and underfloor heating, just luxury.
Thanks Stephen,
you need those little luxuries in life!
