I'm actually a big fan of negative space when it's used well. When I was active in photography, I would find ways to sneak it in from time to time. Ultimately, the creative choice resides with the artist and this piece is lovely no matter how you frame it.

I love it that when you added the white chalk, it cooled down the tones, adding a lot of depth to the piece due to the interplay of cool vs warm tones… beautiful and totally unexpected!

Try the Faber Castell matte graphite pencils,they have much reduced reflectiveness

That fixative is really strong.. sigh. I usually have to spray my charcoal work outside.
Wouldn't be a greater challenge to create that affect using a pencil or a paintbrush like real artist?

What varnish do you use to protect your drawings?
i looooovee the use of white charcoal you are using in this video, its such a beautiful effectt! I was wondering what that white charcoal stick's brand is that you are using? Is it a pastel stick you have to buy in a pack? I really want to try and draw my cats using some white on charcoal but im not sure how to find a charcoal stick like this unless its a pastel pack of rainbow colors :P
