The Weakerthans have always been my favourite band. And John K. Samson has gone on to make great music himself. Winter Wheat was an amazing album. But you do really good covers. Thanks.
Meaning of the song:
1. "Memorial and me" = Memorial Boulevard
2. "Army surplus sales" = where the old army surplus store used to stand but is now a restaurant and university campus (near Memorial Boulevard"
3. "Billboard by the highway" = the old sign that said "Welcome to / Bienvenue a Winnipeg, One Great City"
4. "The crumpled dark" = refers to crumpled papers from art exhibit: Haraldur Jónsson and Steingrímur Eyfjörð, Iceland based artists: “Crumpled Darkness”.
5. "north wind" = Winnipeg is famous for being one of the coldest cities in Canada especially with added wind chill factor
