  • Plant time lapse of a everbearing fig growing inside under full spectrum LED grow lights. Everbearing figs can produce more than one crop per year but still require winter dormancy periods. This variety can produce up to 3 crops between winter dormancy cycles.
This was my first attempt at filming a full fruiting timelapse. To film smooth footage you need to run the lights 24/7 or you will get jumps. About halfway through I switched to 8hrs of darkness a day because the plant was being to stress and just took pictures from then on.
Most fig varieties are drought tolerant but they will thrive when given plenty of water. Crop and fruit size have a direct correlation to the amount of water the plant gets some make sure they don’t get thirty or they will pull the water out of the fruit and the figs will fall off the fruit before ripening.
Grown in a fabric smart to allow supreme drainage and excellent aeration. This variety can grow 2-4ft in a single year. Brown figs are great for eating fresh, drying or turning into a preservative fig jam.
This variety is one of the fast varieties that I cultivate and one of my personal favorites. Perfect source of food for homesteading and people wanting to be more self sufficient by growing your own food. This is a key part of off grid living. Figs are self fertile and do not require a second plant to grow fruit.

The edible Ficus Carica, the most commonly eaten fig, usually has 2 crops of figs. There are 4 types of Ficus Carica - Persistant (Common) figs, Caducous (or Smyrna) figs, Intermediate (or San Pedro) which can all be edible, and then there are the Male (Caprifig) figs which are unedible.
The Persistant (Common) fig doesn't need the wasp as shown in the beautiful video for either of it's 2 crops to be edible. The other 2 types need the fig wasp and the Caprifig. The Smyma figs need the wasp for both crops and the San Pedro figs can still give you one crop of edible figs without the wasp but the second crop (main crop) needs the fig wasp.
What are sold in the shops at least here in Australia are Common Figs. If the wasp was in the fruit it wouldn't be any more by the time you eat the fruit - the plant digests the dead wasps remains and uses it as nutrients to grow just like roots do with the broken down material in the soil.
