Been trying for 3 hours now. I got one spring to release but I can't get the other one. I've been inserting a little above 3 o-clock position and a little above the 9 o-clock position. How long is the screw driver you're using?
I got it out. I was being too gentle. It really takes a lot of force to compress the spring. Even then, you may need to compress multiple times if you didn't compress far enough early on.

Great DIY as usual. I have an 06 325ci cabrio, fully loaded, sport. White/blk leather. I get more offers to buy this car everywhere I drive.
I want to replace the sport wheel with an M3 wheel with paddle shift. There are DIY's on how to wire it into the steptronic. I like the look and feel of the M3 wheel, but not sure of the pitfalls of this mod, or if putting an M3 wheel on my car will just look dumb.
I brought a 3 spoke to change my 4 spoke. But the 3 spoke didn’t come with wire harness. Question is where does the ground wire get connected ?
I actually just got the airbag replaced on my e46 M3. BMW of Manhattan in New York City told me they have plenty of those airbags in stock. I would try another dealer.
Greg Anagnostopoulos was it the steering wheel airbag? because on mine they only changed the passenger airbag. mine it's a 2004

Hey quick question when installing the air bag what green and yellow harness for and what is the black one for if the bag is improperly installed ive been told it will deploy just for safety witch one of the harness cables deploys the bag.???

I switched from 4spoke to 3spoke and I got airbag light. Probably just need SRS reset? I did plug the battery before I put the new airbag to test the multifunction keys.
Yes you just need to reset the air bag light with a proper scan tool

Thanks for the reply, but I did check the immediate wires going into the connector. All looked good. I've tried 3 new mirrors and within a few minutes mirror bubbles up and after a few hours turn brown and spotty and you can no longer see out of it. I am at the end of my ropes. Thinking of just replacing it with a regular mirror. It's become an expensive adventure.
So I replaced my 4 Spoke wheel with this sport wheel. My original wheel did not come with any media control or cruise control. The new one does, I've plugged it in and everything and the media buttons dont work, or light up. I know that the cruise control needs to be wired up using a harness, but what about the media controls? Can anyone help me out? I have a base model 320i, 2002. Thanks!
i have a e46 328 1998, with a multi conector 4 spoke stering wheel, and just one airbag wire, I bought a e46 sport 3 spoke stering wheel, wich has two airbag wires and one plug wire for all the controls, radio and cruise, how can I do that work ? Some aftermarket harness or something ?

Lol I found the same part knocking around my trunk yesterday! It goes on the plastic panel just inside the trunk down near the tail light ;)
Yep, they cover the tie-down hook on the inside lip of the trunk.

I purchased an 04 330i and someone had put M3 parts on it including springs and steering wheel. I have purchased the right springs, but the headlights aren’t working. Checked fuses. The car I’ve found out by mistake requires an aftermarket key chip box to run. Wondering if the steering wheel and ignition being wrong could be why headlights aren’t working. Anyone?

Which dealer do you go to? I had both front airbags replaced a week before Christmas at Center BMW of Sherman Oaks - no issues at all, just called them a few days in advance.
BTW the spring in this video should not stick up. It's supposed to sit between the steering wheel and the metal bracket. There are two other similarly positioned springs in the upper left and the upper right corners - I guess two out of three is enough for the honk to work alright.
I actually filmed this video last year and shortly afterwards I did get the new air bags installed as the stock was finally available. Thanks for the tip on the spring--I will have to take it off again and see what's up with that!
Surely if you know you have a Takata airbag you wouldn’t plug it in when reinstalling 😶

Just switched from stock 4 spoke on E39, to 3 spoke M sport. The airbag is sitting out a good 4-5 mm from the edge of wheel. Is that normal?
And dude who fitted it didn't disconnect battery, just cleared any faults after fault after. By disconnecting battery we avoid any airbag fault codes, yeah?
Mine has the edge too. I think it's normal. It's the spare area for pressing the horn I guess. Make sure the edge right/left are exactly the same. And yes you should not have any lights or fault codes when disconnecting the battery. Wait at least one minute to make 100% sure before putting the Airbag cables off

holy shit i thought i put my wheel somehow off-centre because the car is driving straight but the steering wheel is at slight angle so it means somethings wrong with my alignment for sure or tyre pressure on one side is too low...
What size screwdriver to move the clip on the steering wheel?

If your vehicle is part of the recall, yes.
Pretty safe to remove the airbag without removing the battery terminal. Wait 10 minutes after the ignition is off. The airbag recall is mainly the passenger airbag.
I can't do it like that on video. It's an airbag, you know? Somebody's gonna do something stupid. Btw the problem airbag was the driver side with possibly the passenger side also being bad.

The piece at the end of the video you didn't know what it was, here is the part number 51478213602, it a cover that goes on the back plastic of the trunk lining.
