  • In this episode, Leigh overhauls Jake's MX-5 Miata brakes. The seized calipers are stripped and rebuilt and ancient brake lines are replaced with Hel Performance versions. All pads are replaced with Roddisons Motorsport before a Motamec brake proportioning bias valve is added along with a DaveFab brake stopper to transform the brake feel.

    Excellent demonstration of how to upgrade MX5 brakes, and trouble-shooting the worn out diff mounts. Would like to have seen more detail of how you got the brake stopper to fit with the strut brace in place. GReat video all the same - keep up the great work.
    P.s. The oil cooler arrived safe n sound, thanks - looks like a nice piece of kit.

      Thanks Phil, it was a proper fight with the strut brace in the way which is why it didn't make the video. I'd have removed it but the bolts looked very seized and we didn't have time to change top mounts if one of the studs broke. Glad the cooler arrived safe 😊

    can u make a video on the parking brake please? cant get mine to lock the tires. i have changed everything i can think of and adjusted it so many times but still very weak braking.
    either its adjustet to strong so the parkingbrake holds the car but when im driving it constantly brakes even when the handbrake is fully released,
    or its to weak and i can pull the handbrake while driving and it wont do anything not even hold the car at a slight angle when parked.
    i just cant seem to find the sweet spot..

    My Mk1 Eunos has front calipers from an NB 1.8 Sport, but standard 1.6 rears, and no ABS, so it locks the front wheels very easily. I've installed one of these bias valves but even with it screwed fully in, the rears are still not locking first - any suggestions?

    Does this work as well for a mk2.5 with ABS?

    Is a brake stopper worth it for daily driving or only for really hard braking?

    I inherited a wilwood brake bias valve when I bought my car so nice to know how to fit it. Still dreading refurbing my calipers though. For the brake bias valve what were the adapters you had to have made?
    Think I have another order of parts to get from you guys next week and you've convinced me to add a brake stopper to the list.

    • @BOFIRacingTV
      @BOFIRacingTV  4 роки тому +1

      We can sell you the adapters separately if you send us an email. They're 1/8 NPT to M10x1 inverted flare, so you're bias valve needs to be 1/8 NPT.

    How is the fitment on the LHD cars? And do you really get a lot of benefit of it?

    • @BOFIRacingTV
      @BOFIRacingTV  4 роки тому

      The DaveFab stopper is only for RHD. Jass Performance have some good options for LHD. Their strut brace compatible one also connects to the booster with bolts and a rod.

    Super simple to remove proportioning valve provided your nuts will undo 😂
    As for that brake stopper I've got the engine out and I still can't that damn bolthole lined up I see you missed out how long that took and how you did it haha.Any tips?
    Ps my wilwood bias valve the standard fittings came with ptfe tape so I'm not sure why Flying Miata would advise against it.

      Don't do anything up until you get a bolt in that hole in the strut tower! Truth be told I actually snapped the bolt, so I drilled it out and fixed it in place with a nut and bolt. Once that is in you can then put the nuts on the brake master cylinder.

      @@BOFIRacingTV Finally succeeded on getting the brace bar located. Had to lever something against the suspension turret and touch up the paint afterwards. Bias adjuster also fitted. Now to fit the rest of the goodies I ordered from you guys.

    Is there any reason that some NA's have a brake light in the boot lid and not on others?

      It varies, some NB1s had no ABS, some NAs did. ABS does all the proportioning for you
