The problem is it’s just not worth it, there are better ones out there for less than you could enjoy and restore for far less. It’s hard as you could spend months and thousands getting it back to a decent standard and it still only be worth 2-3k
Does the engine management light come on with ignition. I've seen quite a few APX that don't appear to have management light. I have an APX with no mention of engine light in owners manual diagrams etc. Vcds doesn't ever report mil on either.
I recently bought a Red 2001 Audi TT roadster base for $400 with no title, not running, paint clear coat peel and was sitting for at least 3+ years on the side of someones property. when I looked at it, it had only 81K original Miles on it. fast forward 2 months, installed a fuel pump, some fluid changes, It now runs and drives with no warning lights. It still needs a little bit more work for it to be able to be driven on public roads. But in summary, If everything goes well. I think it have a new life on the road that it should've had all those years ago.
If that does not deserve repairing i dont know what does .. i had to completly repaint mine and redo the whole suspension but, i’m glad i did it and i would do it again !
I have been there more than once, & it usually ends up on spending 4-5 times the cars value on something that when done is still only worth one fifth of what you have spent! The underside is rotten, would require new everything, bodywork and mechanicals, for what is a silver V reg with over 170k miles on. Far better bases out there, I get what your saying but unless you want to keep it for a lifetime it really doesnt make sense to do
off road / safari TT! i want to find a roadster to do that to. like lifted with big giant knobby tires. then since a roadster just strip the interior down as much as possible and like spray down with bedliner or something. then some skidplates and snorkel etc. big light bar across the top of the windshield. maybe strip the top and mechanics out entirely. or reskin it in something hilarious like blue tarp material.
Haha im loving your style, i have thought about making a Jacked up tt off roader but ideally i need one with MOT first as id want to use it on the road, this one is a little past that although still going to have lots of fun with it....... Leave the offroad thing with me ill see what i can do haha
There's 2 versions of the APX, if its like my old one with the ESP button, it shares a tip like the BAM one - earlier non ESP ones have the really weird TIP - they're an odd engine though. look forward to see what happens with this one!
I would strip it of all non-essential parts and get tune, timing belt service, and maybe a large rear sway bar. I could imagine a Quattro coupe at 1250kg if one wants to go nuts with the weight reduction. I also could see the actual internals of the drivetrain being in good condition despite that mileage considering how overbuilt everything is, assuming proper fluid changes(?). Maybe new piston rings worse case scenario. Am I right in assuming this? Modern inline 4s with forged internals don't seem to wear at all and those are just the ones with aluminum crankcases.
I have an APX in my X reg roadster. If you're parting bits out in the future, I'm after the complete front most charged pipe clamp. For some unknown reason mine was missing when I bought my TT. I didn't realise until someone pointed it out at a show! Looking forward to the Parrot Bros destruction derby!
I wish I had you here in the USA I haven’t found much of a TT community here like you all have. But I know it has to be here, I’ve owned my first TT for 2 years now.
Really excited for the upcoming videos with this car. If you part it out, let me now about the facelift front grill :) I have a 99 APX TT, really happy with it😄
If I could do anything to a TT I think I'd like to see one converted to an electric car with a Tesla unit or two to keep it 4 wheel drive...that's my plan with mine eventually when fuel becomes too expensive...😎
That would be cool! i have looked into making a tt electric a few times i have a few stumbling blocks though, ideally you want to start with a fwd auto to make it easier to mount / drive without having to change too much, other issues is where do you put the batteries its not like the tt is known for all the space it has haha
@@TheParrottBros I'd put the batts on three places, distributing weight. Under rear seats where the fuel tank was, or inside the tank, after cutting the top, some in the engine bay of course. There will be lots of space left there. Then, some in the trunk maybe. Old beautiful cars with strong chassis will be very valuable in the future I guess. There will be many industrial opportunities. Who knows, maybe the brands themselves will even offer conversion kits if they ever stop thinking about designing the next shitbox with 5 years of shelf life and re-manufacture headlights and other accessories to go with it. Let's hope for now. :D
Great parts car find. I just found a green 225 quattro down the road from me with 2017 tags in a old shop lot. Never seen the place open, but I'm going to try and see if it's for sale 😅. I have a 180 quattro that I just replaced the whole front bumper (parked hit&run) still looking for a rear but I live in Los Angeles and it's impossible to find any close or that will ship to me 😕
@@TheParrottBros yeah it's a nightmare for sure. The bumper I got is complete no damage with the 5 bar grill for 600$, good price in my opinion. Still looking for a rear bumper. Previous owner put some fiber glass bumpers I don't really care for, but yeah definitely looking to pick that 225 up 😁.
WOW! see we pay £500 for a v6 bumper, i reckon you could get a normal 225 bumper for £80 here, but saying that we do have an endless supply of old tt's
I would fix all its problems and put it back on the road. Not that many early TT's around. I suspect it was sold without the spoiler, could it be removed to give it the early TT look?
I said that to the owner and apparently it was late enough to already have a spoiler on, having been there more than once, & it usually ends up on spending 4-5 times the cars value on something that when done is still only worth one fifth of what you have spent! I've got a worse one if you want a challenge 😂 03 reg 180bhp metallic black beautiful bodywork but hasn't moved in my garage in at least 6 years, can't bring myself to take it to the scrapper 😭
Its got a multitude of problems that have been left over the years, brake pipes will need attention, numerous leaks in the engine bay, all bushes are perished and while i could probably get it through an mot it wouldn't ever be a nice car, both subframes will need replacing due to rust, it would cost 1000's to make it a safe usable car and then you would still have all the bodywork to deal with. there is probably someone out there prepared to spend a few thousand on a car that will only ever be worth a grand but unfortunately it won't be me on this occasion
Dom, i truly believe ours was dirtier than this, based on the fact you are not putting this back on the road I feel like we made a grave mistake buying ours
Thats a great project car. Someone with enthusiasm, a garage, lots of time, patience and some funds would love to fully restore it.

how much for the ECU?

with a saw you could turn this one into a roadster-ish car and with the hatch out it could be like a little truck bed too!

Are you going to do a jump over the Grand Canyon in it lol really interested what yer going to do to it Dom 👍

love it Dom and looking forward to what you got planned for it. 👍

I shall post on the channel when I’m about to take it to bits, inevitably it will be done at some point
My TT has moss growing from the sills and it's never been parked in a farmer's field 🤔
Surely thats a sign that it needs a wash haha
Good video, you took quite a chance with that motor
Thanks 👍

Hows about grass tracking !!!?
That would be pretty awesome!
@@TheParrottBros Just remember the old Top Gear Team had smiles all over their faces 😄
It literally needs a wash and some tlc and she is sorted
I wish it was that simple, haha i reckon about 80 man hours to sort everything that needs doing plus costs or parts etc
Turning into Clarkson more and more everyday.......... "Down at the Farm with Dom" :)
Haha i would love to have a farm, thing of all that SPACE haha

Gotta be something like bangor racing style or low end racing
Im going to have to look into that for the future haha
A good clean a good service some bushes and brakes and she's good too go...
some welding, bodywork & more haha, been down that road too many time haha, my wallet says no thanks haha
That’s a decent tt? You never been to Texas. It’s 4wd just clean it?
In the uk this is an end of the road car haha, unfortunately we have rust, it travels everywhere and ruins everything haha
Hmmmm, not sure what’s planned, destruction derby entry? Won’t be much to salvage for others after that tho 😂
Everyone is saying destruction derby, i never even thought about it hmmm haha
Do Cross rallye with it
Now that would be cool

I'd vote putting in a banger race 😆
haha, that would be pretty cool wouldnt it, maybe i will have to look into that for the future

Very haha
Rofl, all that'll buff out
👍
Keep the TT and take the Nissan Juke banger racing!
hahaha thing the owner may have something to say about that haha
Not completely a wreck
Not yet ;)
Parrot offer me the grill for my tt...😁
🤭
Nitreous injection, massive rear wing and drag strip it
How epic would that be! i have looked into nos before but from what ive rear they wont even take a 50 shot haha
