Penny my favorite athlete of all-time. I'm waiting for somebody to upload a pre-injured Penny after Shaq was traded to Lakers. He has one of the most insane foot works I've ever seen.
This! You cant find that compilation anywhere. The year he put the Magic on his back, ran through the playoffs (averaging 40+ in a league that STILL played defense) became player of the century. He was a force of nature that year. Better than Kobe, Shaq, Pippen, Hill, everybody. Microfracture surgery snipered his career after that season. He was on his way to becoming the indisputable GOAT. It's like that year never happened because you can find no footage of it 😒. #NeverForget
@@greatero absolutely 💯 I remember that in real time . PRIME PENNY was a match up nightmare. For all those saying Penny wasn't washed up yet. He injured his knee in '97 I believe, before he left the Magic. Anything after that was no longer him in his prime. It's a shame. He had the potential to be as good as Jordan, maybe even better. I even liked him more than Jordan when they were both still playing. The Magic were a constant force during the Shaq-Penny era.

He was the total package and better than Jordan was overall in his first few years. Jordan was the most aggresive player driving to the basket and around the paint, but Penny had the post-up game (rare for a guard) that Jordan didn't have, so he was more difficult to guard. Jordan's team game and IQ didn't look to be anywhere as high as Penny's either. Penny was on track to be a better overall player than MJ, and not only individually but a great team player and a guy who would direct a team's offense like classic PGs do. Kobe, MacGrady, etc none of these guys were as good. Penny could score at will with the best of them, he just wasn't that player on the Magic's offense, they had that dump-it-to Shaq game. Penny after 96 had visually lost athletic ability and played with knee pain until he had to have surgeries that effectively killed any remaining quickness he had. Don't be fooled by the Jordan GOAT hype, Penny was on track to be better overall player, not just a scorer.
I still think penny would have taken over the league if he never got injured regardless of Kobe he was in a class of his own had his own style of playing original and unstoppable.
Of course, Penny was playing with a chip on his shoulder. Great for him. Love Penny. He and Kobe are my favorite players of all time. I watched 30 for 30: This Magic Moment, and I feel like the Orlando team needed some veteran players on that squad to toughen them up. These guys were just getting started when Shaq went over to LA. Man I remember those days...
I thought Penny was a better shooter, passer, and ball handler than Kobe. I was a huge Penny Hardaway fan. I watched his college games, him in the movie Blue Chips and his early days in Orlando. Even his shoes were so bad ass I went out and bought a pair. I feel the thing that’s least mentioned is his maturity and leadership in his early days with Orlando. I remember in an interview he said that when Shaq is fouled hard or ganged up on, he wants to take the pressure off of him. It’s a sad story to what could have been, but then again it’s become a great story of what he made out of it and where he is now.
Penny was probably the most talented player whose career was destroyed by injuries...Upon entry into the NBA, he was touted as a "more-athletic version of Magic Johnson" and his first 3 seasons before injuries were electric.
I always felt penny would have been the one they compared to Jordan had it not been for injury but unlike Kobe not because of his obsession with copying everything about Jordan down to even the way he talks and does interviews lol but because of his talent and skill and play style in his own unique way. When you look a penny at his peak before the injury there was nothing about the way he played that mimicked Jordan yet it was still unstoppable. Too bad we couldn't se what he actually would have become.
you can see he has not much athleticism left but he's still able to dominate the game just the same. absolutely no doubt he would have been an all time great if it were not for the injuries
