7:56 The scraping sound as the plane goes over the pole. How many hundreds of times am I going to have to watch Taskmaster to catch all these glorious tidbits?
That same “man of principle” refused to move buckets during a task for Sara Pascoe AND promised he wouldn’t move them for any other contestant but accepted Al Murray’s bribe to move the buckets.
Yup. All I was thinking about was insisting on saying “please” even though he knew he wasn’t going to help. There’s tons of examples of him helping some contestants and not others. Katherine Parkinson, for example - every task was a team task.
For anyone who hasn't seen the full episode, the reason why Jonnie Peacock is doing the task but Alan Davies is there in the studio is because Jonnie was ill and unable to make the studio taping, so Alan had to sub in for him.
@@kisbie you know it hadn't occurred to me until now that they didn't change the seating order to keep it alphabetical. Although they didn't need to for Katy Wix's stand-ins.
I honestly gotta applaud the editor for spending the time adding the loads of buzzer sounds, especially during Claudia's and 7-meter-long-pole-guy's run...hilarious 😂
claudia made me realize that theres a “blind spot” in the task. when she asked to make it shorter, i had to go back to the instructions of the task and it never said anything about keeping the same length the whole time, it just said chose a length and end up with the longest pole
That was my immediate thought... Get Alex to make it as long as possible, immediately stick it between your legs and make it as short as possible, then get through the course with minimal tocuhes!
1.) This was a great task concept that would have been fun in any Taskmaster series. 2.) I know she's not a comedian, but Claudia would have been an amazing contestant in a full series of Taskmaster. If Richard Osman, Alice Levine and Victoria Coren-Mitchell can have a go, surely the Winkleman can too?
I remember being genuinely surprised when someone described her as 'not a comedian' (I think it was Rob Brydon, using her as an example of a non-comedian who was fantastic on WILTY). Not being British, I pretty much only know her from WILTY, and she's hilarious, so yeah, I think she would have been great on a full series.
It was probably a choice on Claudia's end because she didn't want to/couldn't commit to a full series. But yeah I believe the three you named are the only full series contestants who aren't either comedians or comic actors.
Anyone else notice Alex dropping golf balls @ 2:47 - at the far right edge by the bush? I don't remember any golf-ball tasks from this episode - unaired task maybe?
Get as big a pole as you can. Lay it on the ground. Go collect the indicators of the course, and divert the course to wherever you want it to go. Go back and collect the pole. Follow the course. There was no rule on the task that said a person could not change the course.
*SPOILER* He could have shaved a few off if he'd used his one-continuous-touch principle to go under the cow and just slid the pole on the ground. Would have made that one a breeze, might have even saved enough touches to get 5 points (he was only 4 touches behind Childs). Really impressive regardless, no question.
This really is a work smarter not harder task The task reads: "Choose a length for this pole, then guide it through the course. The person who completes the course with the longest pole wins. Every time your pole touches something other than your hands 10cm will be taken from it's length, you have a maximum of 10 minutes your time starts now" as we know all information is in the task. Nowhere on this task says the pole can't be changed during the task, and the lenght that matters is the one you end with. So I'd say that cheezing it by starting with a max length pole, collapsing it right after it leaves alex's hand, going through the course and extending it right after passing through the mailbox is thecnically not against anything written down. I rest my case.
Is there something to be said for putting the pole on the ground at the start, taking a 10cm hit, but going around the course to prop all the doors open?
i really hope she was joking after annoucing the door has to be opened after she rammed it at speed. her reaction makes me think she genuinely thought she would phase through the door
If I did this task, I'd probably ask if I lose 10cm for hitting Alex, ask him to extend it to maximum length, and then spend 30 minutes charging at him just for Greg's reaction in the studio.
...Is european hot water scalding from the tap as a rule, then? And further, is it a common European point of knowledge to know American taps are tepid in comparison? A delightfully odd choice of descriptor, is all. Love it, along with all the culture questions it raises
@@phasein5413 UK houses historically had a hot water system with a vented tank in the attic, collecting whatever made its way in and making it unfit to drink. Still can't get over Lady Leshurr charging full speed at the door, pole fully extended like she's laying siege to the house.
She'd have won if it was "most enthusiastic attack wins."
I’m surprised she didn’t manage to get some smoked salmon involved in the task
7:56 The scraping sound as the plane goes over the pole. How many hundreds of times am I going to have to watch Taskmaster to catch all these glorious tidbits?
Claudia touched every single obstacle and even ones that weren't part of the obstacle. But that's just how she does things. And we love her for it.
She got the maximum number of touches to get the lowest score possible without reaching zero or going negative. That's an achievement in my book.
That's impressive
"Please?"
"Please."
"No."
Alex is a man of principle.
That same “man of principle” refused to move buckets during a task for Sara Pascoe AND promised he wouldn’t move them for any other contestant but accepted Al Murray’s bribe to move the buckets.
He's a man of principles, and one of those principles is that he likes money.
Yup. All I was thinking about was insisting on saying “please” even though he knew he wasn’t going to help. There’s tons of examples of him helping some contestants and not others. Katherine Parkinson, for example - every task was a team task.

I definitely was thinking, that guy looks similar to the guy in season 12 😅
I was wondering exactly that, thanks!
And Alan is Jonathan Creek of course, so he doesn’t (completely) break the alphabetical seating rule.
@@kisbie you know it hadn't occurred to me until now that they didn't change the seating order to keep it alphabetical. Although they didn't need to for Katy Wix's stand-ins.
Alan had to do the same thing for Johnny at the Olympic Games...
Claudia should have been a contestant for a whole series. Even if she didn't do well she would have had a great time eating pot noodles with Alex
Yeah, a real missed opportunity there
My exact thought too! She is so energetic, chaotic and fun, she wouldn't win, but she would be such a blast!
She’s the yin to Mel Giedroyc’s yang
She was the saving grace of this special.
@@JoeBleasdaleReal oh gang
Alex trying not to laugh during tasks will forever be my favourite parts.
I wish we could've seen a whole series of Claudia's craziness.
A million times this!
Only two more touches and she could have gotten the legendary negative length.
“Stop speaking!”
In only one episode, Claudia managed to coin a catchphrase. I wish she had an entire Series.
i know she isn't technically a comedian, but Claudia would've been fab and is such a national treasure
I honestly gotta applaud the editor for spending the time adding the loads of buzzer sounds, especially during Claudia's and 7-meter-long-pole-guy's run...hilarious 😂
I would watch a whole series with Claudia as the only contestant.
It would be a great New Year windup special to have Josh back for a whole series of tasks but he is the only contestant.
7:55 the little detail of the plane scraping Johnny's pole ahaha
This was the first task I ever saw. I cried with laughter and asked my friend what this show was. It was a life changing answer.

A little surprised nobody decided to wrap the pole in plastic wrap and insist that it was only one touch the entire way.
Before this show I don't think I've ever seen Adrian Chiles smile or laugh? He looks like a big happy baby at 3:59 and it's delightful
It’s always a treat seeing contestants who are clearly having fun.

Imagine Julian Clary doing this - he would have been pretty good but very cross with Alex by the end of it.
I am obsessed with Lady Leshurr's banshee howl at 5:07, it makes me laugh every time I see this task.
Very similar to Hugh's Velociraptor noise when Alex found him in the hide & seek task
i think this might be favourite task ever in all series.
And please get LL and Claudia on a full series.
Is this a New Year's treat I somehow missed? I've always wanted a series with Claudia! It would be absolutely fantastic!
2022 New Year's Treat yup :)
Anyone else notice Alex dropping golf balls @ 2:47 - at the far right edge by the bush? I don't remember any golf-ball tasks from this episode - unaired task maybe?
very keen eye
Yes I was wondering what was going on there
They're next to a golf course, so it's probably just Alex moving stray balls out of the way.
It fell out of the shrub when he bumped it.
Claudia is so wonderful. If you ever manage to blackmail David Mitchell into doing a series, please allow Claudia as a foil.
Claudia is the Nish Kumar to Adrian's Dara O'Briain.
It's insane how adorable Lady Leshurr is.

Oh that kind of Pole
Are there enough celebrities for a New Year's treat contest of champions?
I think each touch should have stopped the clock and shortened in the 10cm. Might have prevented additional touches if the pole was shorter.
Wait, you're telling me that the room is on ground floor? My perception has been destroyed.
2:47 Did Alex just lay an egg?
As a clumsy person, I'm amazed anyone got a large pole through the house without knocking down lots of items.
i really hope she was joking after annoucing the door has to be opened after she rammed it at speed. her reaction makes me think she genuinely thought she would phase through the door
Nothing saying they couldn’t edit the course. I wish someone would have re-arranged the path to go straight to the end.
Great video.
Oh, when I saw the title I thought they would be guiding Peter Serafinowicz through the course
Thankfully the germans didn't think of the tortures taskmaster has come up with
feel sorry for whoever had to count claudia’s
I nearly lost it when I saw this for the first time. Claudia was gloriously terrible.
Whenever I see Claudia in Taskmaster, all I can think is "It is orange."
What season is this?
It's a New Year's Special
Based on the text of the task, pick 700cm, shorten it to minimum size yourself, go through the course, extrend it to 700cm, place it in the wheel.
I feel like the word "pole" was unnecessarily capitalised, leading to completely different expectations for this clip.
Taskmaster has become funnier for the contestants than it is for me. Sad day.
I always cheer with these tasks that someone would take the maximum.
pleaaase take the full 700!! DOO IT!

Claudia needs to be in a full series. So does Miranda Hart.
i am genuinely curious if this task is doable, without penalty, at max length.
Just got the Absolute Casserole book today and it includes floor plans, so someone that way inclined could do the math.
Probably not.
There would be too much flex at the 7m for it not to hit the ground
For those who are able to safely drink from the hot tap, that's about 4 inches. 😂

Would wrapping the pole in something be considered one touch?
I thought they'd reduce the actual length after each hit making the pole physically easier to handle as you went
How is this the first I've seen of Claudia on Taskmaster
New Year's Treat 2022 if you want to see the whole episode, as far as I know it's available worldwide
I refuse to believe lady leshurr is in her late thirties, she has the look and energy of a 21 year old
I dont think Rosie Jones watched this special given that she called Claudia a "consummate professional" rather than a "complete buffoon"
It's sometimes a very fine line between the two
You can be both simultaneously.
Ooh, I'm A pole. Six foot, eight inches. Is that long enough.
