Some Dutch grocery stores don't have a real American section, a lot of products are placed across the store, between the other products. So peanut butter with the other peanut butter, Reeses between the chocolate, soda between the soda etc
I mean, saying Dutch pancakes are crepes is along the same lines as saying the American pancakes are Dutch pancakes. They have a similar preparation method (baked in a large pan) but all three recipes are very different, the textures are very different, the thickness is different, the taste is different, how the batter is spread is different (you let it sag on its own, tilting the pan, scraping the batter over the pan). So while on the surface the idea for the food is the same, they're not the same thing.
Never heard of that Oreo popcorn either. Maybe that's what happens to products that don't sell well in the U.S., they ship them off to the American Sections in Europe?
Thanks for sharing -- fun to see! Also, that's totally current packaging for the Marshmallow Fluff; I use it in class. I haven't seen Oreo popcorn, but I'll check next time I'm in the store!
Dutch people are not the biggest fans of savory and sweet combo's like that cheddar and caramel popcorn. They neither like pb&j, and I gotta admit I'm not the biggest fan of it either. On the other hand many savory products will have some sugar added, like fritessauce, and almost the whole Johma section, the deli meats will even have dextrose added.
Just wondering why you seem to need to buy American food when you're living abroad 🤷♀. I would like to propose to brighten your horizon and try stuff. You might find something you like ( and dislike of course ) which you don't know or even heard of. But perhaps you just wanna show what 'american food can I buy where I am currently' ?
@@AbbeytheFoodScientist 👍 Okay, got this! There is stuff which is stating 'American Taste' which is no way near or comparable to things from the US , as I have been told.
Dirk isn't well known at all. It's regional and only has about 125 stores in that region. American imported products are also demanded by Dutch people, depending on where you are in the country. Jumbo, AH and Plus also has US imported food
Do you think Dutch people should eat only dutch food? There is a section for almost every other country or region of the world in every American Grocery Store.
@@lacyshirley7888 the idea to think every groceryshop should have an American section is utterly ridicolous.. You live here, adjust to things here. And on top of that.. a good cook can use stuff we have here to cook a decent meal with.

Glad you enjoyed it
This was so interesting! Great idea, thanks for sharing. Glad they have Reese’s cups😅

Oreo popcorn is a fairly new product, It's really good.

I have seen the oreo popcorn. They do it with other brands too
Bah, I thought it looked so old school for some reason!? Like some type of throwback packaging design
It's so weird seeing you riding on the same streets and shopping in the same supermarkets as I do!
If you see me, you should wave me down and say hi!!
??? why you think its weird ??? we dont have "Dutch only "supermarkets ...

There is sugar in American peanut butter. Dutch don’t like that.

Yes, the later is correct! I thought it might be interesting for people to see what the American section looked like.

You probably live close to a US military base?? I don't see the products you show at the well-known Dutch supermarkets. AH, Dirk, Jumbo.
Hmmm not a military base near that I know of, but definitely a university town. And one of the stores I visited was Jumbo!
@@AbbeytheFoodScientist Maybe a lot of American students?? At my Jumbo I don't see a lot off those American products

All the American candidates so they have artificial colors in them?
Not a very good representation. Basically candy.
That's what I thought too!
Craft! Grosssss!!!!!
Why should ANY Dutch grocerystore have an American section????You live in the Netherlands not in the USA here

We have no american sections, no america propaganda
Sorry, moving to an other country and complaining about the American food you can get? Weird. Moving fysical but Your mind stayed in the US.
