Andre van Duin did so many characters. In this video he (just) played all four. In other videos he and just one friend would do all the many different characters. He did so many things, radio shows, songs, full evening shows (‘revue’), full length films. So versatile. From easy comedy to incredibly moving. Huge respect for him.
In Tilburg there was a priest about 10 years ago who did ring the churchbells very early every day. He was forced by a judge to ring the bells a little later and less loud. So this song tells a story that is not totally unbelievable.
Close to my house actually. There was a terrible row about it but tbh it didn't bother me that much. He was a very strict oldfashioned priest and very stubborn. Before he came that particular church was very popular and mostly full with people every Sunday. He managed to reduce this to only 4 to 5 old people coming there on Sunday nowadays.
This is the humor of my youth. Fantastic! Now you have to do De Lopende Band (en een boutje en een schroeffie en een moertje en een nippeltje) and De Heidezangers too!
Les trois cloches is French. It means: the three bells. Great HXC, that you were able to enjoy this. You were totally right that it is a caricature. There are a lot of cultural references that are hilarious for Dutch people but will escape non-Dutch. Try to explain this a bit. There always have been a divide in our country. North of the rivers are the protestants, quit strict in everything they do. South of the rivers is catholic territory with a lot more bourgondic culture and with specific dialects/accents (soft G for example). Allthough they had their religious beliefs, they are also relaxed and have fun. They love their beer. Many monasteries were famous for the beer they brew and the bread they made. And they didn't mind enjoying their own beer. 😉 André uses the dialect of the South and the whole sketch makes fun with a wink (Dutch expression) of the southern catholic culture. We love to make fun of our selves. I cannot explain all the details. You really have to be Dutch to appreciate it. Edit: I changed balls to bells. Complete different meaning 😉.
Still amazes me how on point his characters interact with each other. Considering it had to be recorded at least in 4 seperate occasions, and editing and chroma keying (green/blue screen) all been done analog. Whereas nowadays the process has become much simpler of course.
As a kid, I went crazy about this vid, and now I appreciate it even more. The interaction between the characters is remarkable, and he must have had an impeccable timing (or made a lot of retries) to get it all right. Like when the second guy on the right asks the guy to his left: How is your foot? And the other guy reacts straight away, looks to his foot, then looks at the other, while the first wiggles his hand 'so-so' and the second reacts with the same gesture not a second later. Maybe he had a monitor next to him showing him the other characters that he had recorded, so he could one-way interact with them, but still: amazing timing!
As a person from the far north of the Netherlands (but living in Canada for the last 38 years!), I have a difficult time understanding the southern Dutch accent. The english subtitles are actually helping ME understand the words. And yes, Andre Van Duin is quite well known for his less than cerebral comedy, but he has entertained the Dutch for decades. He did the reading at the Dutch WWII remembrance day ceremonies in Amsterdam and he was incredibly moving. What I would call a national treasure.
As a belgian I recognized this immediately as a border accent (Limburg), definitely have heard it from Belgians as well. I actually had a very easy time understanding it, compared to some other, more rural Dutch dialects.
I disagree with your assessment of André's kind of comedy as 'less than cerebral'. From his very first impersonations to his later songs and then comedies and sketches, radio shows or 'animal crackers', I think he combined his obvious intelligence, verbal skill and wit, with a never missing feeling for 'what works' as funny on a broad spectre of audiences, old and young, highly educated or not. To me, that is the secret of the phenomenon that is André van Duin. Wie denkt dat de humor van André van Duin 'plat' is, die heeft het niet begrepen.
But the best thing is that it is sung in a southern (Limburg) dialect, that makes it doubly funny but he is also THE comedian of the Netherlands (Andre van Duin)
About 7 maybe 8 years ago my (American) girlfriend had some trouble learning the Dutch language. Songs are a great way to learn a new language and he (Van Duin) made a lot of music tracks. Later I also introduced her to his comedy routines. At this moment my oldest daughter (4) loves the 'Snollebolkes - Beuk de ballen uit de boom' Christmas song. Last year she was already jumping to the beat like a kangaroo, but this year she knows most of the lyrics. Both my gf and daughter know some basic Dutch which makes it easier to communicate with my family in The Netherlands. The Bim Bam was a song from the early 80s. The type of humor from Van Duin is a little bit comparable to Fluffy or Jeff Dunham. Clean humor where only he is insulted or the focus of the joke...
Unfortunately, the last few words in that song's video wasn't subtitled, when the building collapsed. Basically, what was said was: "STOP! What a mess, eh." This is a real classic from the 80s from one of the best Dutch comedians there have ever been, well, for all ages that is.
Dear Mr. Combustible. I sometimes post a reaction to your videos. I am sick. I got some rare bacteria after bitten in my ear by a rottweiler (a happy a bit to friendly one) and they don’t know how to treat it. Get infections everywhere and they will send me to Belgium next week for better treatment. I have a bed ij the livingroom now and keep on watching your video’s cause you are just great. Just want to thank you for getting me through my days.
With humor it’s always difficult to see how well it translates to other cultures. But in this case, it apparently does so very well. Good stuff. André’s the GOAT. :)
This guy is a famous dutch comedian, often quite cartoonish with a long string of comedy songs (and serious ones too). His comedy isn't all that cerebral as this song shows.
The past several years he's hosted a cooking contest show and he's a serious actor now, well he's done one show where a plays an elderly alcoholic in a nursing home. The director had to reign him in the whole time ("you're playing too big, 5his guy's not Meneer de Bok!" (That's one of his old classic characters)).
Thank you for these clips man, I was an Andre van Duin fan when I was a kid and this is the first time I see this and put me back like you said it’s a timecapsule. Keep doin what you do, much appreciated! Maybe you would like to check my hometown Nijmegen. Its supposed to be the oldest city in Netherlands founded by Romans.
Yes I've reacted to the highlights unfortunately it got blocked. Here's the link odysee.com/@HighlyCombustibleReacts:9/RaceHighlights:c thanks for your support!
Hello Sir, I would highly recommend watching/reacting to Jiskefet. That is really fun and Dutch. For example Jiskefet (multilul) Hidden sounds system. The title is english but it is a Dutch spoken video. I hope are going to watch :)
Imagine we live across from a big Church, here in Roermond Netherlands, in the South 😂. I can tell you, you get used to it. He strikes all the hours of the day and night. What is less amusing is when there is a Holy Mass, those bells ring for like 15 minutes, thats no lie.
My neighbour had a clock that would ring every half hour and every hour it would rings the number. Our walls were like paper so you really got used to it and it sounded like it was in my house at night. I just told the time by it at night, haha. What's more annoying is the bass people put in the music, that goes way further. I turn the bass down on anything that makes sound for me like my computer.
Ifyou like this one, you will like: de heidezangers to, and bingo, and boutje moertje schroefje. Those songs are also him playing 3 characters. Kinda all his songs are only him doing 3 voices but these has clips If someone can subtitle them. I will do if someone teaches me how
Another famous parody he did was "Als je huilt" (if you cry)... highly recommend it Link is the original song, not the parody ua-cam.com/video/dRDRxrS_GaQ/v-deo.html
In this video, André van Duin is depicting a (inspired by...) South Netherlands scene, from the province of Limburg. He is putting on an accent, probably not too well. You may imagine someone from NYC trying to impersonate a Southerner. Same stereotypes apply: people from the South are more laid back, more religious, and a bit dumb.
I think it is like: The South is enjoying/celebrating their religion more like Carnaval, processies, (religious parades), beautiful churches with paintings, painted Windows, statues, when you repent your sins are forgiven, singing in church even with beat music. Also many catholics do not allways follow the teachings from the pope to the letter. Birth control and premarital sex is currently not a problem and gays/ lesbians are accepted allthough there are some exceptions. We had masses in Dutch language before it was accepted by the pope. Many clergy in Rome were not happy with the Dutch catholics, but we kept out locale habits. The protestant part is more divided but I think in general less celebatory more strict and serious. God can and will punish you. The bible is leading but many communities have different interpretation. Singing If any is more solemn. There are some groups that have very strict and old-fashioned rules: concerning females and gay/lesbian, rules for clothing, not working on Sunday, no vaccinations, etc But nowadays religion is for most people not that important anymore but we still have the traditions and it effects our culture.
You really should listen to the original Edith Piaf song. Les trois cloches. It’s so beautiful, you hear a bit back in this version. Not for a video, just for yourself.
My father has an old clock. That freakin’ thing is so loud it makes your ears bleed. The fun thing is it goes beserk on the hour and than again two minutes after that for in case you missed it. When it is half past it only rings once (praise the lord) 12 o’clock means It is ringing 24 times 😂😂😂 I hated that clock as a kid
Andre van Duin is worldfamous within the Netherlands, he is cult. He made many sketches, songs, present tv shows and was (and still is) seen on tv shows as host or guest. Wonderful person with a great heart.
Hi, I've watched you give reactions to Dutch artists May I highly recommend the latest season of 'Beste Zangers' Such a powerfull songs! Could you help these musical gems go viral? They deserve this!
Hi Caro, I know that the new season has started I'm waiting for someone to translate the season so I can add the intro and outro to the songs. That's a big part to the show as you know. And if you have any suggestions you can add them to the googleform. You can find it under every video. Thanks
What the hell did my fellow Dutchies make you watch? Why do you guys think this is interesting to anyone outside of the Benelux? This poor guy is trying to react to whatever you guys tell him to and you guys give him all this obscure Dutch shit no one cares about? Cmon bruh
"They buried him with great honour"
Organ :😂🎶"Here comes the bride"" 🎶🤣
( Marriagechoir Lohengrin )
4:38 You may not have noticed: he sings about a funeral and meanwhile he's playing the bridal march. 😁
Yep he missed that.

This is the humor of my youth. Fantastic! Now you have to do De Lopende Band (en een boutje en een schroeffie en een moertje en een nippeltje) and De Heidezangers too!
Jaaa de heidezangers!!🤣

My favorite comedian and a very nice guy when you meet him. Greetz from Holland...

It’s a made up accent. Andre is from Rotterdam.

In 2018 we where with him on a tv program. Great person. Good guy.

Hey Paul. You gotta try Andre van duin de slager.. I am sure you will love it.. greats from Holland.
he imitates an southern accent from the province of Limburg (soft g and typicals oo's and ao's )
Imagine we live across from a big Church, here in Roermond Netherlands, in the South 😂. I can tell you, you get used to it. He strikes all the hours of the day and night. What is less amusing is when there is a Holy Mass, those bells ring for like 15 minutes, thats no lie.

Meneer en mevrouw de bok from Andre van Duin is hilarious his counterpart in the end just sat down cause she pissed herself from laughing
Bạn tìm bài hát rất giỏi. Thú vị
Just a detail, the right translation of the dutch word 'koster' is 'verger', a 'vicar' is more like a 'dominee' in dutch.
So old en still funny!😂🤣😂😂
