I eventually suspected they played a role in the operation of the locomotive. Glad to finally get a full answer.
Cool! I never knew the actual functions of the two bits of the smokebox dart, or that the name comes from the dart shape of the bit the two handles are attached to. I'm very glad I subscribed when I saw your first video!
