  • This week, on the Dream Rifle Build Series, I have got a barrel, along with muzzle device, gas block and gas tube. These are the last parts that are needed to make the gun into a working rifle. I still need to get the muzzle device pinned and welded to get the barrel to the legal 16" minimum length, but that will happen very soon and then we will hit the range and see how she shoots. Let me know what barrel you would use on your dream build in the Comments and don't forget to Subscribe!

You can install it if you take the upper off the lower…and also, a build like this deserved a better barrel, something like criterion or a Chf barrel…

I get that, but I've been really happy with this barrel. It's gassed really well and is every bit as accurate as I can be.

The name Vltor is pronounced with a U and not a V. Latin “Ultor” meaning Avenger. A cool little nugget my friend.

Good to know. I thought the same thing, at first, but then I always heard people pronounce it with a V, so I figured I must have been saying it wrong.

what part of that description is the important part, that defines a high quality barrel vs regular one. 😁

@@adamhearts9195 I am no expert in metal/barrel composition, but the stats on the DD Mk12 barrel is what I use for a "long" range 556 rifle. Being CHF, it should last longer than a normal SS barrel(like the Rosco Purebred) and the DLC should also help last longer. The Rosco Bloodline is 4150 CMV, which from how they are marketed, should last longer than SS barrels. Not sure how much life SS barrels gain with the addition of DLC coatings or being cold hammer forged.
Compare wise, I would put the Purebred 18" against the DD Mk12 barrel in any accuracy competition.
Best part of the description, imo, is the CHF.
The v7 Pro barrel is more of a hard use barrel and in theory, should last longer than any of the previously mentioned barrels. As it is chrome lined, CHF and made of Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel(the 4150 CMV is the same style, but not sure what CMV DD uses).
To put it in the terms that I understand, the mk12 barrel is what I would use for a precision rifle while the v7 Pro barrel is what I would use in a "hard use" rifle.
But I am just an internet taught gun guy, always ask questions to anyone who says that product A is best.

@@whiteyshark5826 Humm, thank you for typing out that detailed response.
It kind of seems like describe the differences between all of these barrels mainly is the life term of them.
They're all going to get the job done, and it would take a professional shooter to differentiate the small nuances between each Barrel..
I looked up the bloodline and it was only 150 bucks to Daniel Defense was about 320,, and the only noticeable difference might be his light fan but with a replacement barrel on the costing under $200 that might be negligible for nine out of ten AR users.
It seems like a lot of these differences might be marketing like I said and only a professional could differentiate the nuances between each manufacturer... they are all going to get you down range and on target consistently and reliably

ASR has a lot of problems
The SOLGW NOX based for the Keymo is far superior.
Also flash hiders cause more errosion on supressors than brakes. Brakes act as a sacrificial baffle prolonging the life of the blast chamber on your supressor.

I haven't used it yet since my build isn't complete....but I picked up surefire's new MF640dft pro light. I also paired it with the DS00 tailcap and a modbutton lite. Decent lumens at 700 with 18650 and 600 lumens with CR123, but it has 100k candela with 18650 and 90k with CR123!!! Also being duel fuel it runs off of 1 18650 batter OR 2 CR123 batteries. Which for me I like because my EOTECH EXPS3-0 also runs off of CR123 batteries. So I don't have to keep a bunch of different batteries on hand.
I know Arisaka/modlite make some awesome buildable setups, but after watching many comparison videos on YT I felt that this was the better light setup for me personally.
They also make it in a 340 body and is like 1.1 inches shorter and takes 1 18350 battery or 1 CR123 battery. With that you get 650 lumens with 18350 and 95k candela, or 350 lumens with 55k candela from the CR123. Since they are both the same price 😅 the performance of the 640dft pro was the obvious choice for a fighting rifle. On a 300blk or PCC the 340dft pro or other Arisaka/modlite might make more sense for better use of space.

I just run streamlight on all of my builds. They’re excellent. I understand you’re trying to keep all of the parts expensive to suit the theme of the rest of the rifle, but surefire lights are criminally overpriced. You pay 400 for the light and then they don’t even send you a working light. You have to buy the tail cap separate for like $150. That’s retarded. Cloud defense has a case because they at least are innovative and send you the entire light.

I'm using the barrel nut that comes with the handguard. It doesn't come with a gas block. Their bomb-proof gas block is great, but I've never had any problems with regular gas blocks or any BCM products, and you need to drill the barrel for the Geissele pinned gas block. I think it'll be just fine, but I guess we'll see.
