I have a Janome Skyline S3. Although I have a very nice sewing desk my machine is not recessed into the table. So currently I’ve been looking for an extra wide extension table. They are very expensive! I was hoping someone may read this who owns my machine and knows of a universal extension table that is not as pricey as the name brand that will fit my model.
Misschien moet ik quilt as you go proberen. Of een andere machine lopen met meer throat space. Als de financiën het out toelaten.
I'm using three boxes that were originally full of fancy Christmas biscuits and are the perfect height around the free arm of my machine. I can keep my machine quilting rulers in them as well. I love my Bernina 1130 bought in 1992 and I don't have any problems with machine quilting with a low shank ruler foot. The template plastic will make a useful addition to my "table". I'm watching from Sydney Australia- my husband was born in Holland. Thank you
“Magyverie”. I love it! Lol. You are so precious and I just adore all your videos! They are so helpful in my journey to learn all aspects of quilting. Thank you so very much for taking the time to make them for us!
After a very busy day in my sewing room, I get to sit with my hand quilting and watch your video, such a lovely treat! I hope you have a fabulous week ahead! Thank you for posting this video and your positive charm!
SO wonderful to see you! Hope your little mister and his baby sister are doing well and that you and husband are navigating two kiddos without losing too much sleep!
Retired mechanical engineer here. I used foam board to build up an extension table. It’s easy to cut using quilting ruler and mat. It is a little lightweight so I used a piece of wood on top. I’ve used foam board to build a light table with fairy lights, foil and a piece of window glass, too. It’s cheap, easy to cut/glue,and lightweight.
Thank you so very much…not sure if I will get the hang of quilting my own quilts…this is a great idea to give it a go…without the investment of a table…
Of course you can. And you can win ribbons on it! I used to have an old Singer sewing machine that i had recessed in an old desk. Worked great. If there is a will there is a way.
Great idea! If you could find a large enough box, you might be able to cut it to fit around your sewing machine too. I'm going to look at my machine now and see if the table it came with will support ruler work. I hadn't thought about this aspect of using rulers at all. In order to get ready for the quilting part of your QAL, I'll be doing this in the next week!! 😃
Hi Irene, I'm going to use my Bernina B350 Patchwork Edition for the One twoTreeQAL It has kind of quilting table to snap on . There is not much space for a quilt sandwich but I 'm optimistic that somehow the quiltsandwich will make it's way over the the table. Your video inspired me to ask my husband to invent a solid wood construction to enlarge the table. thank you for sharing this.
did you try positioning the big boxes turned upside down with lids removed? Then the "table' may be even more flush with the machine! Yay for problem-solving!
I have a question for Tuesday Q&A. How do you create your own FPP patterns? I saw your video on the arrows and understand it, but when I try more complex pictures I get confused. I would love to create and sell patterns as a side business, but having trouble starting.
Oh what a great idea!! My machine has a "hopping" freemotion foot and was told it cannot be used with a ruler 🙈 My machine is a Janome and I bought it 26 years ago. And I have tried freemotion, but it is not easy....
I also had to create a table for my sewing machine. I looked on Pinterest and youtube. both have patterns and DIYs to help anyone wanting to create a table to fit their machine.
Well done! Some years ago I also build a quilttable round my older machine with stuff from ikea and do-it-yourself-market. Now I have a new question for tuesday q&a: when basting my quilt I had puckers in my batting because it was folded stored away. Can the batting be ironed to get those folds out? It makes it very difficult to baste a big quilt when the batting has already puckers itself.
I always hear if you "lightly" dampen the folds and put it on the dryer on a low setting the folds will disappear. Try it on a small sample first. Good luck.
@@carolmorgano7158 you can order online from Dollar Tree but the shipping fee to Australia will be too high. My husbands dream trip is to visit Australia. I have seen template plastic in JoAnns and local quilt stores. Would you like for me to mail you packages of Dollar Tree cutting mats?
On what type of sewing machine do you do ruler work? Do you have a nice big slide on table?

I love quilting with you. I’ve enjoyed watching you grow.
Just changed my life! I didn't know what ruler work was!

Your shiny personality brings light to a gloomy day :)
Awesome! You are still using your engineering degree. Thanks for making the time to show us what is possible.

Time to order more quilting supplies so I can have boxes to use! :) Thanks for sharing.
SO wonderful to see you! Hope your little mister and his baby sister are doing well and that you and husband are navigating two kiddos without losing too much sleep!
Thanks for the hodge-podge idea for building up your table! I actually like that much more than my extension table that came with my machine!

And the foam board is about a $1 a sheet at Dollar store.

Great! MacGyver would be proud of you! 🙂
😄😃
820qe bernina with a slide on table, Love that you show a low cost way to make it work!!
Nice job, Ms McGivor!
Haha thanks! 😄😄
I love your creativity!

Gute Idee🤗 Da kommt die Ingenieurin durch.

Great way to make do with what you have!!!
Brilliant!!
What a good idea where do you buy the plastic sheets 👍👏🥰🌸🇦🇺
I use plastic cutting boards from Dollar Tree.
Thank you Adelene ,but I live in Australia

No thank you I might just have a good look around here where I live .
"MacGuyvery way" made me laugh!
So clever!
Irene, love your voice accent and your way of getting your smarts across so well. Great ideas and function building something from nothing...
Try changing your needle and use the same thread bottom and top and see if that helps your skipped stitches.
👏👍👍👍
This machine looks solid! Those older machines that’s the only way you’ll get all metal construction!
