- We'll spend a week in Valdez. Hmmm...what's there to do in Valdez? We've taken our Thor Class C Magnitude all over Alaska like the Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay, on the ORIGINAL Highway to Denali National Park and now we slowly make our way to Valdez! At least it's not like the Ice Road Truckers doing it in winter and the trip is paved!
Taking our Class C motorhome to Alaska the Last Frontier so we can get to some remote areas and drive on roads less traveled. Like up to the Arctic Ocean or a view of the Alaska Range.
We've been planning this Alaska RV road trip for over a year and we're doing it. Enough talk, let's walk! Well...we'll drive but you get the picture. RV Fulltime Living is an adventure.
We're heading to Valdez mainly for the LuLu Belle cruise (Lulu Belle Wildlife Cruise) and Captain Fred. It's a lot of fun and we were graced with lots of wildlife, caves and glaciers! Last time in Valdez we missed the salmon run, how about this time?
Our RV is a Thor Magnitude and so far on the trip it's been doing great getting about 10 mpg so far. We hope it doesn't get used to these nice roads in the next week!
Always epic views but will the clouds part for us to really see Valdez? It's a gorgeous setting for a town so we're excited to see what the week brings.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to UA-cam channels Suite Travels and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks
Our journey is the destination. Let's discover What's Next. We enjoy sharing our experiences of true fulltime RV lifestyle as we travel nearly weekly to all sorts of interesting places.

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.

Sondra you need to publish a wildlife photo book! I would buy it😊
Thank you. That's a phenomenal compliment and really appreciated.
The captain of the Lu-Lu Bell gave you your money's worth. Beautiful area.
He always does. That's why we enjoy it. Thanks for the comments.
Every time I watch your videos I cant get over how well you edit and create spectacular views. Great drone flying I gotta say well done!.
Thank you very much for the kind comments. It does not fall on deaf ears. We enjoy sharing our experiences and glad you're along on the journey. We appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Oh my heart❤. I am smitten with that filmy wispy cloud towards the end of the video. So pretty and surrealistic, to realize you've gotten to such an altitude that you're in the clouds. Gives new meaning to "being on cloud nine". Especially Mr Artic Circle when he reached the Artic Ocean. You all like to live an exciting, risk taking travel life, especially when you're up that far North, winter can set in with a vengeance and never let up. And as you could see locals weren't playing with Mother Nature and were closing down while it was relatively nice. Albeit 40s and 50s are just too cold for this Floridian who really does know cold and snow, after living in a valley in Montana, surrounded by three different mountains.
It's good you got to see the awesome picture that was painted for you by nature and you have a keen eye for editing that keeps the beauty without the bore. I can tell Sondra, you have your hands full with "Mr Artic Circle/Ocean." It's easy to tell he's quite the character❤😅😂. Pretty sure there's not a dull moment.
Safe and happy travels.
The clouds were spectacular! I don't know why I was so taken by them and their formations around the mountains. Awesome. And the Arctic... oh my... don't get me started again. Such a spectacular area. I was enchanted by it. Thank you for watching.
Of all the places we visited in Alaska, Valdez was our favorite! We stayed 2 weeks at Honey Bear and 1 week at the KOA. We often rode our bikes around the town, took the nature cruise, visited the salmon hatchery a bunch of times and tried many of the restaurant. There are two museums in town that we enjoyed as well. We also liked hanging out around the dock in the evening to see the display of fish the fishermen caught. LOVED VALDEZ
Valdez is probably about the most scenic coastal town in Alaska! Neat place and we enjoy it as well. Hope you had good weather for a portion of your stay.
Loved this most recent video of Valdez area. The photography of your wildlife adventure with Captain Fred on the Lulu Belle was absolutely wonderful. Brought back so many, many memories of our four different adventures on the Lulu Belle! Keep up your great work and come back to visit us on your next trip across Missouri on Highway 36. Ken and Robin, your Boondockers Welcome hosts.
Hey, Ken & Robin! Great to hear from you. Wow! 4 trips on the Lulu Belle, that is amazing. It's a fun trip and Capt Fred does a great job of keeping it interesting and fun. We did really enjoy our stay and we will return to visit for sure! Thank you very much for watching the channel. We want to do a "tour" of Hwy 36 in the near future and visit some of the unique places along the route.
That boat can sure get into some tiny places.!! Love all the sea life!
It is amazing, Kris, the places he will take that boat...and it's not a small boat either!
My parents had good friends from Vancouver who had a cruiser. They went to Alaska every Summer. Seeing this beautiful footage I can understand why. They just adored it!
It's a magical place for sure. We definitely know why they kept coming north.
@@bigtruckbigtravels , I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed this series. I’m watching it again. You are such nice decent and honest people. Thank you so much for sharing.
Loved your intro music, It's unfortunate that everyone can't get see and experience the beauty and wonder of Alaska ,you guys are blessed ❤️.
Thanks so much, Scott. I like that intro as well. It's a big state and takes quite a time commitment to see it. We're fortunate to be able to do this and share our experiences.
I can’t seem to stop watching your videos. Such beautiful filming and photos. Thank you so much. That boat captain was amazing. So many animals on that trip and how close he got to those caves. Wow.
Thank you. It's a lot of fun.
Yes, he's been doing it for 40 years but he's really good.
Yeah - I’m hooked. Binge watch eight months later 😊
Thanks guys for an awesome trip and adventure
Glad you enjoyed it, Simon. Thanks for watching.
Oh those POOR people with the fire! One of my big fears! So glad they are OK, but still, what a nightmare to go through! I’m so very sorry. Imagine, on the trip of a lifetime and then this.
On a bright note, that fish fry must have been SO fun!! I’ve been to similar “too-do’s” at the lake with a Walleye Fish fry at the resort, bring a side. What fun! You get to meet everyone
It’s so special!
I know. The fire got close! Lots of fun.
Just Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hi guys... That was a very Good video... It had a lot of beautiful scenery as well as a lot of interesting content.... That boat captain was real good to be able to get that close To those rocks.... We are in our usual place and thoroughly enjoyed it thank you... Stay safe looking forward to next week...J&A

One of my favorite videos so far‼️So many things you shared with us ‼️
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
You both are just so great at capturing the moment!! Whether it is scenery of the snow/glacier capped mountains or the vast fields on your way to any of your Alaskan destinations or the sea life!!! We are just blown away!! Gorgeous and breathtaking.. all of it
Thank you so much, Teresa. It means a lot to hear that and we're glad you're along on the journey. 😊
Terrific video.. thanks for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed it! We love sharing our experiences with everyone. Thanks for watching the channel.
I have recently discovered your channel and I am enjoying your adventures very much. I work 6 months in Skagway, Alaska and seeing the beautiful photos and videos makes me love it here so much more.
Thank you very much. Skagway is so unique. WE love it and the way the city embraces the culture from the gold rush days. I know it's a cruise ship town but it's a really neat downtown area. We're trying to get back there this year.
Fantastic video work, we have been watching for about a year, this is a great tour of Alaska, Larry and Donna from Pennsylvania
Hi Larry and Donna. Thank you so much for the kind comments and really appreciate your time watching the channel.
Another great wildlife trip stunning thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, Sue. It was fun. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
More fantastic content. I wouldn’t miss your weekly releases for anything. Love them! 👍👍👍
Thank you, Dale. We enjoy sharing our experiences and glad you're along on the journey. 😊
Wow. Another great adventure video. Thanks for sharing!

Great footage, love following along.
We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
Great video ❤ Love the animals❤️ Watching from Ontario 🇨🇦
Bonjour! We're glad you enjoyed it and are along on the journey with us. We appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
You are very gracious in acknowledging your viewers who come and speak with you as well as through email. Sorry to see Sondra is still muffed up and freezing. Great wildlife shots and David you will make a great boat Captain when Fred retires. Maybe you can get a foot in the door for a summer job next year. What a great adventure you are having. Thanks for taking us all along. Wait till you get to Haines and go to the hatchery and watch the brown bears scoop up the pinks, take the heart and leave the rest to the Salmon. Thanks for the trip and a chance to see some things we missed.
Thank you. We really appreciate everyone who says "hi" on the road. It's pretty cool to meet viewers. We enjoy the activities we participate in and like to share our experiences. Glad you are along on the journey. 😊
Another great video and adventure. The scenery was unbelievably beautiful! Those water falls and the boat tour were great also. Keep on keeping on. Allan and I are certainly enjoying your adventures! ❤
Thank you, Kay. Glad you enjoyed it and excited to have you along on the journey. 😊
You two are so cute together and it's funny how you tease each other. Lol. So far I don't think you've shown one ugly area. Always so beautiful. It was adorable the otters were staring back at all of you while just floating around while snacking. Lol. That captain is crazy brave to get so close to the rocks. He's probably done it a few hundred times so he's a pro. Captain Dave. Lol. Great video. Stay safe!!!
Thank you, Deborah. I enjoyed my brief time behind the wheel! The otters are Sondra's favorite 😍!
Thank you for sharing this - how assume is that !! ❤
You are so welcome!
I have never made it to this part of Alaska in my two trips. Really enjoying this one!!
Glad to hear it, Bill. We wanted to get to some less visited areas this time...I think we've accomplished our goal. 😆
Memories 👍👍🇦🇺
Thanks, Steve. We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
Wow! My hubby and I scoped out 10 going towards McCarthy to see if we wanted to bring our fifth wheel down there. The quick answer was ABSOLUTELY NO!!!! The roads were horrible!!! I can't wait to see how you all faired with your super C!!! Thanks again for the great videos!
LOL...you'll find out next week! And they were as bad (of worse) as advertised! Truly a terrible road to travel. Thanks for watching the channel.
@@bigtruckbigtravels We'll be watching intently!!! I pray you all made it safely! I wish I would have known before you making that journey to tell you! Was that road worse or better than the artic circle?
@medic1541 oh, video coming out this week... but it was much worse! No doubt!
Wonderful photography and videography one had to wonder how you manage all the lenses and data you collect and still do all the hiking and exploring. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks, Rod, and that is an excellent question! How do we manage it?!? 🤣 Barely hanging on my friend. LOL. We're doing great and we have a system. It keeps us busy and engaged with time to hike, explore, greet viewers on the road and video chat with our daughter. Sondra has been saying that she wants a vacation, so she's thinking of going back to work! LOL. It's fun to see new sights. Hope you are doing well and staying cool. Aloha
I think this video is one of your best 👌
Thank you, Scott.
Fantastic video have never been to Valdez’s. Have a great week there😊
Thank you for watching the channel, Edward. We're excited to be able to share our experiences with everyone and to give back to the RV community.
Another wonderful video! Thank you!’n
Thank you for watching the channel. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy as much time up here as we are since it is such a big state. We're excited to be able to share our experiences with everyone and to give back to the RV community.
#33👍.......another enjoyable segment. Loved the falls, water caves and wildlife. That Captain sure didn't mind putting the bow right up to the rock for your viewing pleasure! Speaking of Captains........Capt Dave looked like he was enjoying that role! And glad you got to be noticed by so many on this journey. Such (well deserved) celebrities! 😉
Thanks, KB... getting closer! Lol... Definitely not celebrities, just a traveling couple who like to share our experiences.
Oh I love Otters!!!!
Oh, Kris...so does Sondra! She really loves otters. I was excited to see the orcas.
This video was amazing itshould be on Discovery Wild. The lady who says she would buy a photo book is so right l would buy it too.
with both of your autograps. People from everywhere know you which makes me ore proud of you. The waters are a lovely tropical green and those 2 little otters looked like little bears gone for a swim too use. Take care now.😊❤
Hi Linda- hope you are doing well. Great to hear from you this week. You are so kind to us, and we really appreciate it. The water was gorgeous and such a pretty green color.
Hopefully we will get to see you here on the farm when you come through the next time.
Thanks, Robin. Yes, we will definitely allow for more "farm time" on our next trip through the area. We're looking forward to seeing more of Highway 36 and that part of Missouri. We got some idea's from the brochures you gave us on our last visit.
What beautiful country we live in, thank you so much for
Sharing one of the best. I love Alaska, there is no other
place like it.
It is truly beautiful, Stephan and a very unique state indeed. Our second visit to "the last frontier" and we'll be back for more wilderness time! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Okay, so I just discovered your videos and I must say, I am rather enjoying them! We’ve been to Alaska too and so watching your trip has brought back a lot of memories! None of my business, but……I would like to know more about you both. What did you do in your working years? Where are you going to park the two rigs when you’re visiting your daughter? Were you pilots, since you have such an interest in planes. Where did you both grow up and how did you meet? You both remind me of teachers. Awe, so many questions.
Thanks, Kathy. We squeeze in the rigs when we visit our daughter and no, we weren't teachers. Worked in corporate positions (usually electronics manufacturing) in various positions. Just enjoy military aircraft and the great outdoors.
That lookout was scary..I didn’t go out to the edge! We’re in Valdez now..what a beautiful drive!
We’re at Eagles Nest RV Park.. where’s our Salmon Fry?? 😅
Caught 6 salmon just above the Weir..watching the Sea-lions was something to see!
Today we’re going on a glacier tour.
Wish we could have met up with you guys somewhere..maybe Whataburger in Weatherford, Texas! 😊
Hope your weather is good. It was beautiful but the edge did drop off pretty quickly. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
We finally saw a bear at the Weir!!! Yay.. Weather was raining yesterday..sun is trying to peep thru the clouds today. Dealing with a tire issue..never a dull moment.
@almanichols2585 always "exciting" when you travel in an RV. Hope the tire issue gets resolved.
Thanks for sharing 🥰
Thank you for watching the channel. We're excited to be able to share our experiences with everyone and to give back to the RV community.
Sad to see just how much less snow is up there these days. Beautiful still...but sad
It's amazing how different it was this time than from our first trip in 2017. We looked at some old pics and wow, it was amazing. Like you said, still beautiful. Thank you for watching the channel.
If y'all see a shaggy hair white dude in a gray "Sprinter Van" that's Ryan Twomey, he's from the states, he has a UA-cam channel, he also is visiting Alaska. I told him to watch out for you all. I don't know if your familiar with the "Adventure Bandits" they have a UA-cam channel, and they're on their way to Alaska. They have a 5th wheel, but they're leaving it at home. They will be flying to Alaska, then renting a Class C. I'll tell them about you all when they get there.
Sounds great. We'll be on the lookout. Thank you for the comment. 😃
Amazing. Yall are seeing Alaska the right way. The waterfalls are so beautiful. It was so amazing to see the glaciers. I loved the cute sea otters, they are just too cute. I enjoy your videos so much. I want to visit Alaska so bad. I watch Brooks Falls, Katmai National Park all the time. I love watching the bears and the new spring coys, cub of the year. It is so interesting that female bears have their coys during hibernation and they stay with them 1 to 3 years. I have learned alot about the Coastal Brown Bears. I love to watch them eat the salmon, and they only eat the fatty parts. They even have a Fat Bear Week towards the end of fall. Take care, beautiful video. I really love watching them. I can not wait to see McCarthy. I used to love to watch that on tv, interesting little town.
Thank you, Robin. McCarthy is a very unique town and the surrounding area is really nice. Hmmm...you like bears?!? Hang on... we may have something for you in the future.
WOW! What a beautiful video. Now I want to go to Alaska even more!
It's a cool place, Gary. Well worth the effort to get up here...but it does help if you have the time to really travel around and explore this great state. Thank you very much for watching.
I really enjoy your videos, great sights and commentary.. this episode was action packed! Love the corny jokes David and Sondra you are a jewel. See you next week!
Glad you enjoyed it, Carol. We like to experience an area for sure. See you next week.
Thanks guys for the wonderful video. Really like the boat tour and fish 🐟 latter, otters 🦦, all the falls, and beautiful scenery. Look forward to the next video. Take care and thanks 🙏 so much.
Thanks, Harrison. It was a great week.
Hello from the Warrens in Columbia, TN. Dave, your videos and music are like we are watching a documentary - superb. Almost hate for them to end. Enjoy!!
Thank you so much. That is high praise and not taken lightly, I can assure you.
WOW! Amazing videos you guys are doing every weeks!! IMages are incredibles! Thanks so much and National Geographic should hire you! Thanks so much for the great time you give us!!
Wow, thank you, Marco. We enjoy this lifestyle and are glad we're able to share it with you. Lol...I think Nat Geo may cramp our style! 😉🤣
I LOʻVE PUFFINS ANNAMAY
They are so cute. Sondra loves them. They spend nearly all their time on the water!
❤❤❤❤❤
😊😁😍
I love watching your videos. I glad you are taking time to explore everything you have. I made a trip to Alaska in 1996 on a goldwing motorcycle, 12000 miles in 32 days. I wish I would had more time. I hope to return by motorhome soon.
Oh boy, Dennis, that is quite a trip on a Goldwing! I think a motorhome will be more comfortable...but there is something about driving the roads on a motorcycle. We have surely seen a lot of up. Glad you're enjoying the channel. Thanks for watching.
We'll check back in with you in a few days. If your looking a little thin and ravenous we'll know leaving the food was a bad idea. Lol!!! 😉😂😂😂 Have a good week guys. 🙂
LOL...that's funny, Adrian....hmmm, and yet some truth to what you say! We hope we're not too thin and ravenous! Thanks for the comment.
Love seeing everything I saw when there from your perspective. Makes me so want to go back.
Hey, Leslie. I think it's so cool to get another perspective on places that you are familiar with and can relate to what is being shown. Hopefully, it's a view that you enjoy because I know that we did. Thank you for watching the channel. 😊
Another great video as we journey along with you good folks. Alaska gets quite a number of earthquakes. Have you experienced any since being there ?
We definitely did in 2017 while visiting Valdez. I think we felt one while in the Deep Creek area of Ninilchik but it was a small one so we're not sure. Thank you for the comments and your time watching the channel.
thank you for this beautiful video. Can not wait for the next one.
Thank you very much, Susan. We appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Loved your continued coverage of Alaska it’s absolutely beautiful Thank You for taking us on your journey ❤ 🦈 🦭
Glad you enjoyed it, Joyce. We enjoy sharing our experiences and are grateful we are able to take this journey and have you along. ✨️
Sondra, I completely understand taking all those pictures. What lenses do you use? We just started watching your videos. Enjoy them so much, especially these Alaska ones. Thank you.
Thank you very much. Sondra uses a Nikon 5500 camera with a Nikon 50 - 300mm lens on it. She can't help herself with all the pictures! LOL
My dream trip
It's beautiful up here in Alaska. It's also nice to escape the heat from the lower 48! Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
So sorry we missed you when you were in Valdez! Safe travels to you both!!!
Yes, we met a couple from Alabama at the fish weir the night before we left who were staying at the KOA but time got away from us. Maybe we'll see you guys on the road sometime? Thanks for watching the channel.
@@bigtruckbigtravels Sounds good!
Hi Deanna, from Bolingbrook Illinois I am really enjoying your trip I know I would never probably get to Alaska, so I am really enjoying the trip. I wish I could’ve seen more of the whales because I love whales but I am really enjoying your trip. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Deanna. The Orcas were very cool indeed. Sondra wanted equal air time for the otters! 😆
Love your videos! My husband and I enjoy watching your adventures and beautiful photos. Can you tell me what kind of camera you use? Keep the videos coming!!!!
Thanks, Dena. We use a variety of cameras, most we had already... we may upgrade one of these days. Lol
Nikon 5500, GoPro8, Samsung Ultra and a Samsung S22. I have a DJI mini 2 drone that I got for Christmas (Costco sale). 😆
🎉
We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
I love your videos, I wish I had the funds to take a trip like that. I ask, have ever heard of Living Vehicle??
Yeah, Mark. I've seen them online only. They are definitely addressing an off-grid trend that's going on. They look nice and functional. Thank you. 😊
Be safe out there, Fam! You may have heard about the pod of Orca's attacking boats off the coast of Greece? NOAA is tracking their movements, & unfortunately it looks like they're moving inland towards Valdez. My uncle Jessup left camp at 2 in the A.M. for another bottle of Charlie Daniels and he was never seen again. Rangers say they saw Orca tracks in and around the body.
Enumclaw? Are you a fellow Washingtonian?
We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story. LOL...great story, Chief.
Best video yet!! Absolutely beautiful drone footage! Did you have to get a special license to fly it in Alaska?
Thank you, Sandra. I am under the flying weight exemption so no special license is required for Alaska. Appreciate your comments.
I'm in New harbor in valdez now
Awesome video as usual. Is this the Alaska summer? Looks pretty cold to me! Beautiful scenery, wildlife and music!
Most of Alaska is very temperate but a few areas do get hot... we're still looking for them! Lol
Thank you very much for the comments.
Absolutely loving your Alaskan vacation so much we are in planning mode for next summer. What model GoPro do you guys use? We are going to be picking one up soon .
I have a GoPro Hero 8 but it was on sale... and we're cheap! Lol. I would get at least a model 10. GoPro's have a great quality picture but they do have limitations. Use to it's strengths and it works great. Congratulations on beginning to plan your trip. It'll be fun!
Thank you for the great pictures from Valdez. We were there a year ago at this time. Will you be taking the ferry from Haines to Skagway?
Hey, William. We'll be taking a ferry... but not to Skagway! Hmmm... 🤔😉🤣😁
Skagway is just about an hour ferry ride from Haines. Great town with a lot of gold rush history. It is very busy when the cruise ships pull in in the morning and the town is yours when the pull out in the evening. @@bigtruckbigtravels
Another great episode guys! Can’t wait for the next! 👍
Thanks, Steve. Really appreciate your comments.
YOU DID NOT FLUSH THE TOLIET WHILE SHE WAS IN THE SHOWER! Have you heard of Lorana Bobbit?
Yes... and that would not be fun! Oh... and you're correct, I didn't flush.
We're planning on making the AK run next summer in our 2020 F350 with a Powerstroke pulling our 2022 Keystone Raptor 352 5th wheel. We're approximately 65ft overall so my question is are you going to share any of your advanced Intel on where the good spots are to accommodate Voyager and Orion as we're close to that size too?
Thanks, Kevin. Yes, we're going to do some summary videos on costs, fav experiences and places a big rig will fit.
I would love to see how you do your drone pictures when moving in your motor home. My son in law gave me drone. Bob Reese, MI
Thanks, Bob...hmmmm, maybe that should be a "behind the scenes" moment?!? I didn't do it at first but as I got more comfortable with it's range and flight capabilities (and MY flying capabilities) then I started to fly it in the front passenger seat while Sondra drives. It's a little surreal since I am in the vehicle which I am seeing from 100's of feet away. Kind of weird...
@@bigtruckbigtravels Thanks for the info, that is something I will have to try when I get more comfortable with the drone. Mine has a follow me feature on it. Bob Reese MI
Love watching your adventures! Could you tell me which gps you’re using and how do you like it or not. Thanks
Thanks, Harold, for the comments and appreciate your time watching the channel. We use the GPS unit that came from the factory with Ford. It's been good so far. We enter coordinates or an address so it's flexible and hasn't taken us on a wild goose chase...yet! There's been a few questionable routes but we've caught those and modified some turns. It's a gps so there are always a few issues.
@@bigtruckbigtravels thanks for the reply I thought I saw a GPS on Sondra’s side of the dash. Lol
@haroldb5569 you did. We moved it temporarily from the HDT so she could see elevation and give us a second opinion 😉. It's a Rand McNally trucker gps about 7 years old. It does a good job but there are times it will not route you on a road that is not STAA approved even though you know its OK.
You should get a hand gps unit.
We looked at a Garmin iNReach. Thank you very much.
Are you still here in valdez I just want to say hi. I been watching your videos before I came here
Sorry, Ryan. We are not in Valdez any longer...a little further south actually... but still in Alaska.
Interested in what software you use for editing, and do you use a gimbal? impressive.
Thanks, Andrew. I use Davinci Resolve for editing and the only gimbal we use is on the DJI Mini 2 drone. Otherwise, it's on us to try and keep it steady! Appreciate your comments.
I love you videos but I have one question. Why did you choose your route to see each point of interest. Going back and forth across the state would use a lot of fuel.
Very true, Charlene. We planned our route based on three criteria:
1) Visit areas based on wildlife (Seward in May for Orcas, Valdez in July for salmon, Wrangell in August for the bears, etc...)
2) Be at or above the Arctic circle for the summer solstice to see the sun spin around and not set!
3) Take a ferry. No cross gulf sailings this year so we had to drive back down to Haines to catch it.
4) Travel some roads to get in the Alaskan wilderness... and see more wildlife.
This Alaska trip was not about an efficient routing. It was about experiencing those items that we wanted to see. Hope that helps. Thanks
Did the tour boat let you fly your drone for the aerial clip of the glacier?? 😂
I want to know this also. Great drone footage of the boat and the glacier.
Thanks, Bob. Yes, I asked the Captain and he said no problem but when he had to go then he'd give me a little notice... it was a little notice! 😆 I got it back just as he was throttling it up.
Thank you, Julie. I always check before to insure it's ok... but it's always my responsibility if I lose it.
Wow! Just out of my own curiosity. Do you guys own that class C or just renting until your rig is repaired?
Thank you. We own it and plan on taking it on some other journey's but we're also going to store it at our daughter's house so she can use it as well. It will pull "double duty" for awhile.
Where in Texas are you guys from? I am from Seguin Texas which is a little bit east of San Antonio.
We've eaten at the Whataburger in Sequin! We get our mail from Livingston but usually spend about 3 weeks in Conroe each year. Otherwise, we are on the move seeing America.
What was the name of that hike?
Not really a "named" hike but it's on Thompson Pass. Look for the ridgeline near the top. there is a lot of parking available.
What week were you there?
July 11 - 18
Those cairns those people do when hiking should be knocked down. They are ridiculous and add nothing to the trails. The one on the viewpoint. Doesn't belong there. I knock them down every chance I get.
In National Parks, they ask not to erect them as too many can be confusing. This one had an artistic quality to it for a great shot. Appreciate your time watching the channel and your comments. Thanks 😊
