Great video buddy, brings back so many memories. Born and bred in enfield since 81. Haven't been back for years. I remember getting the 307 to Barnet college.👍
DLP1 had some slight visual differences from the other DLPs. It was taken out of service at only about eight years old, roof removed and put onto central London sightseeing duties.
Man it’s great seeing the Gemini 1 again, had a few on the 221 a few years ago and used to ride them everyday, good times man I miss these busses and I miss each company having their en unique livery, every bus these days just looks exactly the same, black and red or just plain red, no variety
The grainy footage makes this looks like it's from the 80s! Thanks for uploading. Couple of things that surprised me: - The building in the background of the first clip. I thought it had been demolished long before 2003. - 317 and 231 used to be single decker! - The bus to Hertford leaving from Enfield Town.
Nice! I like how back then all the tfl operators used to put their own different livery on top of the London red. Where I lived I remember all the stagecoach buses still had their own blue and orange stripe at the back of their buses. That was my favourite one.
Wow DLP 1, now a tour bus but it was strange as it had the worst front blind and a rear blind which was 3 separate numbers lol, we used to blag a ride on the 310 as the 279 from Green Street after school took ages to arrive, and it was cheaper than TfL fare
Loads of first generation low-floor buses on London routes. Country route 310 running ex-London 'step entrance' buses, notably Mk1 Metrobuses with centre doors removed. More single deck bus routes in Enfield back then.
Wow buses in Enfield 17 years ago back when stuff like Plaxton presidents and pointer 2s were new and Gemini 1s too unfortunately all those bus types are now gone out of London
@@TransportGeekery Technically the 310A and B were not LT routes, they were operated commercially from Potters Bar garage. The B did indeed go to Harlow on a Saturday.
@@BristolRE Ah, I misremembered. It’s certainly a bit less interesting nowadays with fewer commercial operators coming into London. There was just the right balance between standard red in those days with individual tendered operators having a little dab of their own colour based on the overall red motif. I’m not sure what the public prefer TBH: it certainly looks more standardised today and better than seeing Grey Greens eg on Oxford Street, so you can see why TfL really value the red bus as part of London’s image for visitors.
@@TransportGeekery TBH I do think that stagecoach and metroline should've kept their blue skirts on their buses and GALs grey and yellow skirts, those looked quite smart.

God I remember DLP 1 when I was little! What a throwback. Thanks for this.
You're welcome

Got to love all the old buses seem to have much more character too. Listen to those Diesel engines go!
Most definitely

Yes, way too boring these days

Yes, 317 and 231 was single deck for about 5 years, but if you rewind to the 80s and 90s they were originally double deck.
The quality of the footage was still pretty standard for 2003. It was almost 20 years ago after all. Those cars are ancient 😂

Indeed, TfL now insist on 100% red

Sneaky shot there of a white liveried Metrobus: was the Middlesex University network still running by then? @1:38
Possibly. Not sure.
That’s an Arriva training bus.
