I do miss the old Bus station (if you could even call it that) back then! I'm only 24, but I do have a lot of fond memories at the front of Edmonton Green shopping mall. Sitting on those circular red benches, that had a small tree in the middle and just watching the buses go by. Even the trains in the background (WAGN operated Train services out of Edmonton Green back then)
Brilliant, thanks for the memories. The DLA/DLPs came in on the 279 during the summer of 00, I came back from a holiday and suddenly they were everywhere.. I remember the 149 hanging on with Metrobuses for a bit longer.
My pleasure.....As you can see in this vid, the odd Metro still escaped on to the 279s until Enfield lost them totally.....I still prefered the 279s with Routemasters though, the RCLs were best, deep comfy seats with lots of legroom! I remember a nice ride out to Hammond Street on RCL 2237 in the early 1980s......happy days!
Brilliant video yet again. I first drove at Palmers Green in 2001 and was lucky enough to get a year or so of Metrobuses on the 102/121/125 and rarely on 329. Loved those buses. This takes me back to better times. Thanks for uploading.
My pleasure....i too drove Metros but only with smaller operators, although did get them on TfL routes (185 & 248s) plus rail replacement. I found the Titan's to be a better bus to drive (you had space for your left foot!) although would rather a Metro over a low floor vehicle.....
Ah this brings back some childhood memories! Not my neck of the woods but I remember many a shopping trip on the 186 with my mum from Wembley To Brent Cross which was operated by Metrobuses.......we always used to sit upstairs on the front seats. Also had many rides home from school on the 282 route which was single deckers but they laid on 2 or 3 Metrobuses in the morning and afternoon for us school kids. This would have been around 1993-95.
I noticed the Edmonton United services club I used to play snooker in there , played football for them it's opposite Bounces Road good video thanks for posting it
Unbelievable my school bus for 7 years until June 2000, lets not get too nostalgic. The sliding windows on the top deck rattled like you would not believe as did the stainless poles, serious vibration problems all round, with some buses. The floors were brown lino which was never cleaned. The roofs leaked/suffered from condensation problems and the drains on the top deck were usually blocked which meant when wet there was a swimming pool of brown liquid which sloshed around your feet. As for crossing the North circular, road works started in 94 and didn't end until late 99 to put in that underpass; endless temporary lights and traffic jams. That said great video, Edmonton has completely changed so this is the only record as I remember it. Thanks again for posting this. Great channel.
Thanks for your memories.... Yes Metros rattled well! The flor was actually cork and reasonably hard wearing. In LT days, buses were overhauled every 4 years and everything replaced but after the mid 80s that stopped and they got very shabby. These days of course, it tends to be a new fleet of buses every 5 years when a route comes up foe tender.....
That's an understatement and a half!....lol It has changed even in the time i have known it. Have you seen this upload of Edmonton Bus Garage? ua-cam.com/video/tWG_NwXTUro/v-deo.html

200o was the year i filmed the video. Silver Street is still called Silver Street station although you are correct, Edmonton Green was originally called Lower Edmonton, which is the display that the buses showed when terminating there....
Yes, Metro's clung on well. Compared to the low floor buses that came along they were simple & rugged although still had a lot more electrics than a Routemaster......
@@Unleashedge4real Yes, they were good, solid buses. I drove some similar with East London in the Stgaecoach 17xxx & 18xxx range on the 248s....lovely buses for a modern bus (prefer a Titan!).....

I looked to see what you had uploaded and METROBUSES!! Must see TV! And I wasn't let down. Arriva ones to boot. M450 which was based in my area of Woy Woy NSW just outside Sydney was ex Arriva and I saw and heard it floating around in the 2002 period. A great sounding unit as ate these sister units with Arriva. M450 is now in Tasmania.
