Wow !! Yes , 20 million on an ad. Why not ?? Chump change. Why use 20 million to feed the poor , or actually help people who are one bill away from losing their home because inflation is literally so crazy high. NOPE. Super Bowl commercial.
I think they are awesome! Jesus was fully human and fully God, so even though he is Devine, he understands us and all our faults and suffering. Helping lost and suffering people to understand this about Jesus is priceless.
So far, from my FB feed, I see two types of comments. My conservative friends and family were very pleased to see the ads. My non-conservative friends were pretty sarcastic, seeing it as another attempt of religion to indoctrinate for power.
As a non-believer I can tell you I had a positive response to the "He Gets Us" campaign. I would have to think it had an even more profound effect on a so-called "person on the fence". I don't know if it was part of the intent, or if it even matters to followers, but knowing that at least some Christians have a "Radical Forgiveness & Love" worldview attracts me rather than repels me. This reminds me of the Jesus of my grandmother.
Be wary! This is funded by the extreme right evangelical nationalists. They are the ones who fought to get roe v wade overturned, fight against LGBTQ & Trans rights, . Hobby Lobby is the main founder and they went to court to to not have to offer birth control to their employees and not accommodate any Trans employees. This is just the tip of the iceberg!!
It is a seemingly "woke" commercial. It is a true statement "He gets us" truly he understands us better than we understand ourselves. The danger lies in painting a picture of Jesus that only reveals part of the gospel. Yes Jesus loves us, he seeks out the lost to bring them to salvation, he seeks to free them from the snare of the Fowler; but the is 1/2 of the gospel message. The other half is the command of confession and repentance. The command to die to the old self and to live by the word of God. What happens when the people who emersed in rebellion and self-service, come to the realization the following Jesus means living by God's word.?

It is not only about the (expected) results. The way matters. There is a right way, and there are wrong ways. This leads to another split up. Free form "make it what you want it to be" vs. try to get onto the right way. It is another repetition of the Fall. To make ones own thoughts and knowledge the basis of judgements of good and evil. It was, it is and it will always be a REAL struggle for EVERY human being to get onto the right way. To bend the way to make it more welcoming and inviting is nothing that leads to the biblical Jesus. It leads to a self sculptured golden calf. You think it does not matter how we get people to a point where they start a relationship with Jesus? You think you or someone else can afterwards convince those people to change this then in them established relationship to a more Christian one? Who's feet did Jesus wash? This ad is run by a corrupt organization selling people lies that are short of salvation. Read the word of God and pray for knowledge, do not rely on others to save you, it's a personal relationship between you and God. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, not sinners who chose the world over him. He did go to the downtrodden and broken and help them and heal them and save them, but he always told them, go, and sin no more. This "He gets us" campaign is a lie, do not believe it, I'm telling you this 100% out of love, I want people to go to Heaven, you must repent and be born again. Don't hate me for that please and if you do that's your right, but please look into what I have said here. Do not believe a lie and be damned for eternity.

To me, the doctrine of the Trinity stands in the way of Jesus of Nazareth plausibly interacting with the world as a human being. That he's positioned as "G-d the Son" interferes with the aspects of human experience that come from the conflicts and surprises of the highly concurrent lives around us. For example, if the doctrines of the Early Church fathers are taken, then Jesus of Nazareth contradicted the command from G-d to Abraham to "be fruitful and multiply". So the love that Jesus exuded was the generalized love for all of humanity, while missing the joys and struggles of personal relationships and family? I understand that he lived in the political tumult of first-century Judea where the Roman Empire had stripped away Jewish autonomy as a client kingdom, so as a messianic claimant he had plenty of responsibilities. But it seems like even the gospels and other aspects of the new testament magnified a "new Jesus" beyond the person who was moral guide, teacher, leader, and protector of humanity.
Thanks for the sharing William. I believe Jesus experienced a lot more personal relationship than we realize. Mom, Dad, Brothers and a group of friends that were inseprable for at least a couple of years.
