I always wish John would run some of the more demanding games on these clones. The ones that push the Genesis hardware, and often have issues with these clones.... Such as:
Streets of Rage 2
Virtua Racer
Gunstar Heroes
Thunder Force 4
Sonic & Knuckles
And most flashcarts have some issues.
How about things like the 32x, Power Base Converter, Game Genie, and Sega CD... These are things is be genuinely interested in knowing if they work or not.

There were some weird sounds here and there, and was SF2 C.E. running slower than it should?
I should also mention, that for $53 you can buy a YPbR component cable which will make your Genesis look and sound incredible on a CRT (with component ins) and it will look MUCH better on a compatible HD display.
So there is always that option if you want a perfect non-clone issue.

I listened to the audio on headphones. Even though the Minigen sample was quite short I could tell the Genesis' sound was noticeably more full and deep. The mini in comparison was "tinny" or more hollow.
Street fighter 2 sounds so slow !
I don't notice any audio issues on my system. Maybe is how he recorded the audio? Sounds great on my TV and I am stickler when it comes to audio from my Genesis games.
@@zerox2000 It could be that your TV has good speakers and can correct the audio's loss of bass adequately. I have an HD Retro Game clone that doesn't have very good bass, but use a good TV or speaker set and it sounds just fine.
Wish gamester would do vids like he used to instead of reviewing free packages. Not hating just missing the community I listened to back in the day.

Wow Gamerz Tek smacked it out of the park AGAIN!! I'm about to have tons of GamerzTek systems that play in HD cause I have an 8bit HD and 16bit HD and NOW im gonna place an order on this one cause I have like 3 or 4 Genesis games that I haven't played in a while which is Sonic 1,2, and 3 and Contra Hard Corps. Don't have a Sega system but I do play em on my Retro Duo portable with the adapter or the converter for my SNES. But I wanna play em on a big screen TV so once again GamerzTek you bought me!! They are so underated how come they're not getting the love?!
Hi there , not sure about the U.S but here in the U.K we have the official Sega Megadrive mini with about 80 games pre-installed and will play cartridges plus Hdmi output . I saw it last week in a big chain gadget shop.
But you can't play official cartridges on the genesis mini

That sound is not emulated well at all. They have the same issues with their nes hd clone. They were kind enough to give me a review unit for their hd clone and while it played great there was noticeable sound issues.
The Genesis sound is actually very well done on this system for a majority of games. There are a small number of games that have sound issues at times, but the vast majority of them sound fantastic. The original Minigen was known at having extremely accurate sound compared to the original system, and the HD sounds just as good.

Has anyone tested the 3 in 1 adapter on this? Would love to be able to play my Game Gear games.
Glad they added the aspect ratio switch on the back. Maybe they’ll add that to their NES version. I’m tempted to get one.
Don't forget though, it's only mono sound. Probably the true only gripe with that unit.

Make more videos like this one where you had a brief intro then went right to the review of the console. I haven't watched you in a while because of the long intros and plain boring background. This is a good video and it kind of reminds me of the old style of your retro video reviews. This background you had was good by the way, much better than the red background. Keep the reviews coming though.
Hello, I'm in Korea. Do I need to use a transformer for the Minigen, AC adapter?(220V in Korea) Let me ask you a question. (The outlet part is round, not straight.)
Is this actually stereo? The last GenHD was mono only.

I REALLY wish these hd retro consoles would be for the cd based ones like Sega cd, saturn etc., I've heard of the polymega but the guys making it are terrible at communicating and getting back to people.....genesis and snes are great but I want a reliable way to play the cd games of the past....

Seems like a nice little unit. I just wish some of these clones added a basic save functionality. It’s hard going back to these games without save files
foorocker it doesn't load the rom, it plays the cartridge so that's not possible.
Does this work with a flashcart?
Informative video, thanks for posting. I personally wouldn't buy any of these clones with the "death grip" cartridge connectors. Not gonna risk damaging valuable original carts just to play them on Chinese clones. Original MD / Genesis systems are fairly cheap.
You can get a $15 AV to HDMI converter at Fry's or Amazon to pair with original hardware that probably gives similar PQ to one of these. I have not tried this, just assuming.
Now, if Analogue ever did a MegaDrive / Genesis version of the Super NT, I'd be all over that.
Still, if you just want to play a bunch of random Genesis games from Goodwill or the flea market, and aren't really a collector, I suppose this or one of the other similar units would be fine.

Better comparison would've been using RGB to Component because the Genesis is well known for it's bad composite picture.Also they need more options for video like s-video and component needing to be added because composite is the worst option for video.
I would like them to try the PC Engine too
Mistic DW Turbografx and PC Engine are both well known so I don't see why no one has tried too yet?

Interesting little console. I will always object to the 16:9 aspect ration option, but aside from that it looks neat. Is there any input delay ( something that most HD retro clones suffer from )?

Knuckles Channel 3 & Knuckles I just got a super analogue NT last week. The first clone console I ever bought that doesn’t have lag but it cost 230 dollars to get an HD Super Nintendo with no lag. (190 plus 40 dollar shipping). I freaking love this thing.

Tattle Boad The 16:9 option stretches the image and it doesn't look appealing to me.
I have had Minigen HD for ten days now and there is no noticeable lag on my 55" 1080P TCL television.
I hope the music isn't low like the sega genesis mini console by at games.

I'm not a fan of clone consoles.
It's probably best at this point to wait for a remaster compilation on modern systems so at least audio and video quality will be competent.
I have a feeling, that there will be more classic mini consoles or clones of them.
Since the demand is pretty big, i don´t see why it couldn´t happen.
Sure would be nice to get a Colecovision clone. Not getting my hopes up.

How responsive is the Console? Did you notice any added Input Lag when playing the New Minigen HD?
I would like to go back in time and make a comparison between actually putting a game in a genesis and this one. Would original genesis feel the same or are we all used to pulling in games into 30 year old consoles?

awesome review John...it looks to be a good clone .. i still have my retrogen handheld from when it came out with the better indented d pad...not the circule one.... I play it all the time..still works ok..how about you?

Any probs like w the AtGames Genesis Flashback when it will sometimes lock up? I would assume not bc that emulates like a Retron 5 and this appears to be more like the Classiq H2 using original type software. But ur the expert... lol Thankx nice vid!

Seedi is trash. I am talking about a quality system the like Analogue puts out (FPGA implementation vs Seedi just strapping on some hardware and existing software emulation to make a quick buck) dedicated to playing the games on systems that act like the originals, even down to the assembly code.
So, it's the size of a model 3. I find it odd you didn't compare it to that, though the 3 was pretty trash anyways...

it might be the video but the frame rate looks off on the MiniGen compared to the original
cool system, for systems like this, it really depends on the price, and the price seems very fair. I wish someone would make a nice clone Sega Nomad or a clone Game gear, rechargeable battery and better screen with an affordable price

Unfortunately the 32X is not compatible with this system. The Sega Master System adapter is though.

Do any of these systems accept flash drives yet? I would be sold on a Nintendo or Sega system that would accept flash drives loaded with ROM files

I may get one from Fallout games. Just because it would be cool for playing Japanese megadrive games on actual hardware and it's so small it's more portable than my giant model 1 genesis. Positive the 32x won't work.

Working with a flashcart is always a bonus for sure, means it is hardware emulation like my SuperRetroTrio as opposed to software emulation like the Retron 5 which needs to dump the content of cart to ROM first and so not compatible with flashcarts like the EverDrive?MD

I have the original Retro Trio, I'd recommend the Plus over this if you want dynamic functionality. But if you're only interested in Mega Drive games and not the Nintendo stuff, you'll probably be fine with this thing, it costs less and I believe there may be a region switch on the back (though I don't know if the RT+ has region free compatibility anyway)

7:22 The audio is what breaks it for me. I wouldn't buy one simply because of how bad Street Fighter 2 sounded in comparison to the original Genesis.

jesus even on a basic game like aladin it looks and sounds wrong. if I heard that tinny music on a game like phantasy star 4 I'd be pissed. I'll sick to and advise people pick up a model 1 if you ever see one.

I really wish Sega would take better care of all these clones that have been coming out (for years now) - they're just all a little rubbish and they're completely ruining Sega's legacy.
Im playing Sega CD games in full speed with perfect sound and a about 1200 genesis roms on my Atgames HMDI clone. What planet have you been on?

There wont be any more coming out from anyone as every company has made a hdmi nes hdmi snes and now a hdmi genesis. So dont expect anymore new clones to.come
This minigen marked the end of the fad.
I.dont like the clones as all there audios are way off from the originals so much so makes them un playable
Just get the original genesis and call it a day or just get the raspberry pi if your on a budget. I have one and play all my favorite games from it.
