I'm surprised and not surprised at the same time. I'm not surprised in the sense that it was a massive song, nearly every person on the planet has heard the song but I'm really surprised you haven't heard previous artists and songs from the 80s who were massive. Eurythmics had that dark, synthpop sound and image but I was pleasantly surprised with their pop output too with songs like 'Would I lie to you'. Even as a person born in the 90s, they were inescapable on the radio!
This is one of those songs I knew was going to become one of my favorites within the first few bars. As soon as that funky-ass synth bass started, I was looking around at people, ARE YOU HEARING THIS?

The era being 1983-1984. My dad especially liked this song. MTV years this one. They had a very distinct sound even on radio. Another grade school memory lane song from the summer of first grade. 80's kids got exposed to lots of 60's, 70's, and whatever was going on in the 80's.
You are one courageous man to watch this music video, and to react to it. I remember watching this music video on MTV in late-January, 1983. It shocked the hell out of me. I thought to myself, "My God, this is Satan himself in this music video!!!" I was a big fan of Kraftwerk, and their Techno-Pop music, and Eurythmics recorded their own style of Techno-Pop that appealed to me. I bought the album of the same name, and I have been a Eurythmics/Annie Lennox fan ever since.

So many wonderful Annie Lennox performances to choose from. I think her appearance at the 25th Anniversary of the Arista Records is one to definitely listen to. type in 'Annie Lennox Why Live 2000'. I'm normally in tears by the time she sings 'This boat is sinking'.
Annie Lennox is my favorite female singer--has been since the 80s. That is one soulful Scottish(?) sistuh, right there. Love her voice. It's so sultry. So many good songs she sings on both with Eurythmics and solo. I would recommend you take a listen to "No More I Love You's". That song was sampled on a Nikki Minaj song a few years back but the original is beautiful.
When I first heard this song back when it was released in the 80s, as soon as I heard that riff on the pump organ, I turned to my wife and said, "Whatever that is, it will be a smash hit. Who the fuck is that??" - From the opening riff!
Annie Lennox is truly awesome - along with her make up and outfits. Check her out performing with David Bowie in a tribute concert for Freddie Mercury at Wembley Stadium - starting out with Queen's "Under Pressure" . She has extraordinary makeup and dress and David Bowie is in a great mint green suit. Great performance!
Typically when these chart toppers came out back in the day, they showed up everywhere; everybody wanted a piece of the pie until the next new flavor came out. What is surprising to me of the thumbnail list of all videos I have seen you react to, this is the first one where you confess you actually have heard this song before...time to go to the calendar.
Annie Lennox is a legend. For me she's like the female version of Sting. A pathfinder - all others follow. Maybe since her first video I couldn't forget her. That smile is like a riddle: it seems genuine, but the eyes are often ominous, and I don't know what she's up to next. Whatever she is, she's not boring.
Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart were in another band called Tourist. They were on tour here in Australia and they didn't like the way their careers were going. The two got to talking in a hotel room in a small country town called Wagga Wagga (here in NSW) and decided to form another band - which became Eurythmics - so it can be said that this band was founded in Australia! You should do "Let Forever Be" by The Chemical Brothers
I knew there was no way in the world you could have escaped that song. It happens every year - a song that is everywhere: think Mmmbop, Two Princes, Uptown Funk or Despacito. There is nowhere to hide. BTW, you should hear Annie Lennox sing "There Must be an Angel".
The 80's was truly an amazing decade for music and movies! Almost everything was originals and unique! I think it was the golden age... entertainment wise. I will be forever thankful that I grew up when MTV only played music videos! When the video for Michael Jackson's Thriller came out? That was such a huge deal! With just enough rumored controversial about that my parents said no way. I snuck down one morning around 4am to secretly watch...I just realized my parents never found out. To this day. How about that?
I never figured out the cow either. Annie Lennox is amazing. I was a tween when I first saw her and she (and Freddie) helped me realize that gender wasn’t cut and dried.

One of my favorite 80' group..Annie Lennox had an incredible solo career as well
Annie Lennox is a graduate of the Royal academy of music in London. As was her classmate Freddy Mercury from Queen!
Annie lennox is a very underrated singer. Check out her and David Bowie doing "Under pressure" live for the Freddie Mercury memorial, it's amazing.
I really enjoy your channell. I love watching you discover the music I loved for thirty years. Keep venturing outside of your box!
She had number 1 hit with Areatha. Franklin get it
80s videos were like Picasso's paintings. Think about it.
This is one of those songs I knew was going to become one of my favorites within the first few bars. As soon as that funky-ass synth bass started, I was looking around at people, ARE YOU HEARING THIS?
I love this song....i do a badass kareoke of this...its a fun song. Annie Lennox... Ooo those eyes. Good choice bro✌
I have never liked watching music videos because I don't like some else's idea's popping into my head . I have found that I enjoy watching you react to them. I am 66 and I love most styles and types of music. I look forward to you viewing some of the current music.Happy and Healthy New Year from Michigan
They make a point. This world is for the purpose of remembering who you are and bringing that knowing in to your creations. The polarity and contrast will push you toward what you want. Some people experience oppression to realize how precious freedom is and when they've had enough they will change it.
She has always made fun music love her ....Thanks for sharing
Annie has an amazing voice and she was a trailblazer.
She won all the Brit awards in the 80's and 90's despite not having released stuff that year. Wonderful lady
Love this song. One of my favorite 80s tunes.
She used to sell Haägen Dasz ice cream in London's city centre. She was a born ice cream seller, but switched in time to music. Listen to her songwriter Dave Stewart ('In this little town') and his duet with Candy Dulfer, instrumental, Candy on sax)
Infinitely better than Marilyn Manson's remake. Love the artistic slant to this video, cows and all.
One of the top 5 80s pop songs. Iconic visuals. Vocals, production.
Annie Lennox...one of the best female voices. Just saw her sing with Sting on his birthday celebration concert. Wonderful!
Love her voice!! Anne Lenox has such a clear voice
Lennox
Go and listen to there must be an angel by the eurythmics it's fantastic ,Stevie wonder played the harmonica on it .
Good call...
Annie can express so much with just a look.
The first time I ever heard this was on a Friday night after 8a.m. -2 p.m. at college and 3 to about midnight at work, managing a restaurant. I turned on TBS- a program called Night Flicks- a MTV ish thing. Same old squeaky voiced lead singer. I headed for the shower and suddenly this amazing voice came out of my TV! Oh. My. Gosh! Gorgeous, deep, rich Alto. So rare for a lead singer back then. I was so taken with the voice that I was halfway through the video before I wondered what the he** was going on. Still love sweet Annie. Still have no clue what was going on. Oh by the way, I'm an Alto so I might be a little biased. Nah. She rocks. She sings the song they play over the closing credits on Return of the King.
It was Night Trax! Lot of water under the bridge sweetie.😁
My idols ever since 1984 Love Love them❤️❤️❤️
The combi of an operasinger and a heavymetal guitarist - awesome. I don't like heavy metal, but of this song I bought the record with this number on. wierd but enchanting.
MRM, you have opened up a can of worms here, Annie Lenox voice is awesome and still is today but her partner here, Dave Stewart is an INCREDIBLE guitarist, please check out some very recent work of his from the Stewart-lindsey album, Another lie, another voice he discovered Mr. Lindsey is incredibly unique and old school, other recordings on it are equally as impressive.
Thanks again for your reactions.
GOD BLESS.
This is very representative of a number of 80s music videos. When I was a kid, Annie Lennox was a very popular singer with the Eurythmics.
The version that Emily Browning sings in Suckerpunch is brilliant. One of the best interpretations of this wonderful song.
Annie Lennox is an amazing singer. Can't go wrong with anything she did. Check out the Diva album.
How about that?
her partner is Dave Stewart, look up a song by candi dulfer and him (live version) its called "lily was here" amazing tune.
Its called CREATIVITY mate.
Creativity is encouraged in the UK,its why we have so many iconic bands and artists.
yeah man those cats were out there. they had a bunch of hits.
you gotta remember that was the dawn of MTV. the videos were WAY out there sometimes.
I never figured out the cow either.
Annie Lennox is amazing. I was a tween when I first saw her and she (and Freddie) helped me realize that gender wasn’t cut and dried.
That song was originally just a jam session and sound check. That's why it's so repetitive. Sound guy liked it and played it to label people who loved it and the rest is history.
Oh, darlin, How could you not have heard this! Bet you love it!
PS....whispering....it’s a dance song-it doesn’t really have to make sense- it’s to get hot & sweaty. :-)
I always thought Annie Lennox had a great voice I mean tremendous vocal range
You really need to listen to more of the songs by this group
