    I've been playing Ibanez basses for 30 years, it's always amazed me how much value for money they deliver.
    They last forever too. I have my bass from 1990 and it still looks and plays pristine.

    I had a BTB with Bartolini pickups and a 3-way Bartolini active system. I love the sound, and the thru neck. However, the wide neck on the 5-string was creating so much pressure on my small finger on the 4th and 5th string, that a bought a couple more basses. My old BTB also had sharp edges. I got a 5-string active/passive SR bass (which is beautiful), and a 5-string Warwick. I favor the Warwick in neck shape and deep tones, bit the SR is beautiful. However, it's what my fingers can deal with and the deep tones. No putting Ibanez down, the BTB sounded great, but my fingers could no longer take it. I find the SR cuts into my finger a bit. but the roundness of the neck of the Warwick is easier on my fingers. It also has a really clear low end. My SR has the mid frequency switch, but I don't use it much. With the 35-inch scale, the B string on my older version is a monster. too. I always use stainless steel round wound strings.

    Hi Owe.I have recently purchased new from Thomann this Ibanez BTB 1825. Right from the start I noticed that by inserting the jack into the instrument (if it is already in active mode) when switching on passive mode you hear a "bump" in the amplifier (this happens only at the beginning).
    Which, however, later disappears even when the switch is switched on and off several times. Obviously if I insert the jack with the instrument in passive, even moving the switch in active nothing is felt. If you spend some time (after many minutes) going from active to passive, you will hear again a very little click / bump (I don't know how to define it). I would like to know only if it is normal. Thanks and sorry for english

      Hi Patrizio, thanks for your comment and congratulations on purchasing this fine bass. I did the video some moons back but I can't remember having the issue you mentioned. I would not consider it "normal", so I would like to ask the retailer, distributor, company. And check the internet forums for this. You can get helpful information on these often times. Good luck for you finding the problem and have fun with your bass.

    Ibanez is way above Warwick quality control even on a bad day

    • @OveBosch
      @OveBosch  5 років тому +4

      Hi Chazz-J Black, thanks for your comment. I agree on Ibanez having very good quality control. That's obvious. But to say it is better than Warwick's in general seems to me a little overstated. The German made Warwicks are of incredibly high quality and also the "made in China" instruments are really worth their price. So maybe we can agree on "good instruments here and there, its' your choice in the end" ;-)

    • @chazz-j1994
      @chazz-j1994 5 років тому

      Ove Bosch I do think Warwick’s quality control is lacking and the customer service is awful. I was sold a German made Warwick Corvette with broken truss rod, Warwick didn’t want to help me AT ALL to get the problem sorted and I even offered to purchase a new neck, still, no help. Also - The Just a nut system is one of the worst innovations to ever hit bass guitar, the plastic housing breaks off and leaves sharp edges which are just awful. I imagine the brass versions are a lot better, yet £300 RRP in my country which is ridiculous.

      @OveBosch  5 років тому +1

      @@chazz-j1994 Well, I agree, that is not a good sign. Without knowing the details, maybe you should try to reach Warwick / Germany directly. These guys in general are very supportive and helpful. Maybe your trouble was caused by the distributor in your country? Just an idea to help you out.

      @@OveBosch i like this look, but i dont like the shape of btbs, i know they are great basses, if u catch the great one, cause its still making in series . This model looks great. I dont know. I usually tune my 5 string basses to EADGC , jut throw the low b and i detuned them to C G C F Ais. But i dont like 35 inch scale and it looks a little bit big, i tried btb, i jsut dont like that body. I know it weighs less than for example 5 string WW Corvette bubinga and BTB has great balance and because of the radius of the neck its easier to play, but that 35 inch scale and that big body. I dont know. I also deciding myself between This or Thumb 4 and Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor natural finish. Only thing, which bothers me is that Sandberg is made from European ash and i dont know how dense this wood is. If its leaves easily scratches and marks and so on, cause i had basses with natural finish and i cant remember types of bodies, but everything been see on them.

    Nice review for a lovely bass guitar but as usual musicians in the UK with tell you we pay well over the odds as this was selling for over £1350.00 & that's alot for an Indonesian bass guitar whether its Ibanez or not...
    They are still about the £900.00 pre-owned & they really haven't dropped that much in the second hand market as some sellers ask for £1K...
    I dont know if its because of a limited amount as mine is a 2017 model but again/if you didn't know already the UK is one of the most overtaxed countries in the world/prices vary & I'm not keen on buying a guitar over £1350 when it was first out from an internet site...
    Ok let me get something out of the way by saying that Yes online distributors like Thomann might be a little less cheaper but when your buying a guitar in the mid to high end price range then for me online is not an option as I want my instrument to be able to be played by me in my hands because believe it or not not all of the exact same model of guitar will feel the same & most high end lead or bass guitar players know this & can feel this when they have a hands on try of any guitar...
    Let's not be fooled here as this is not or wasn't a cheap bass at launch & I don't know about other bassist's out there but I would need a hands on try first & then buy it if it felt comfortable in all the eight areas & sounded as good as I wanted it to as its each to their own...
    It's just my personal opinion but if your paying over £1000 or that equivalent in euros then that's an investment that you don't want to buy from an online store were you can only return it if you have issues but then you also have to prove there is something wrong with the one that was delivered & then a real can of worms can be opened as certain online sites will want to blame the courier & not their end of the company & basically your in a war of words to prove something that buying in a local store would be better off doing...
    If you want to buy online then again that's your prerogative but honestly anything that's over £600 to £800 you really should try & buy from a local guitar store or a musical instrument store in your country...
    I can confirm that this bass is a beautifully crafted & well made bass guitar but again " again in my opinion " if it's over a certain price then you should also look at the actual Brand named bass guitars as you can buy a beautifully built brand named guitar from the USA/UK/Germany et al for that price & although Ibanez have been making great lead & bass guitars for decades I'm tired of buying a guitar that's overly priced yet built in Indonesia or any other country outwith a brand actual homebase...
    I know Fender/Warwick & many brand named guitar builders have factory's in these countries & have cheaper end versions of their seriously over priced models but I think its time these companys started making bass guitars or any musical instrument built in their own country that doesn't cost a small fortune which then of course makes buyers want to buy the Indonesian or whatever foreign country it was built in models...
    I'm not having a go at these foreign builders, quite the opposite, as it's the brand name builders who are asking way too much just because in was made in the USA or UK for examples & I understand how the business side works with variables of tax & importation of products but it's getting out of hand in that I can barely buy any high end brand name guitars unless I want to cough up upwards of 1800 to over £2K
    I'll give you an example of a bass guitar I've always wanting from the UK & that is the Wal MK1 or MK2 in Fretted & Fretless & to buy New your easily talking about just under £5000.00 & that's a lot of money for a new guitar & just forget about buying a Wal preowned as they can command higher prices because they are not mass produced & then there is the relationship between that guitar & which famous musician used them that makes them become serious collectors for buyers & I've seen Wal MK1 & MK2 Bass Guitars preowned from the late 70s to 80s & the asking price is as much or more than a brand new model at over £5K...
    Again I'm not knocking guitar companys but it's time the prices were more realistic & I am factoring many different parts onto this equation & instrument are just getting so pricey that more often than not we end up buying a guitar built in Indonesia as we can't afford the Brand named version built from whatever country it comes from...
    I will say though that if you can get your hand on one of these preowned & at a good enough price as mine was £900 (as I couldnt find any at a lesser price) then you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of them but I've always known Ibanez to make great bass guitars but as I'm stating they're more often than not built in a country thats been picked because of cheaper labour costs so always be aware of what your buying but again at least I can stress that Ibanez/Fender & Warwick are making great guitars from these other lower based labour cost countries but sometimes the price isn't that far off from paying that bit extra & buying a fully kitted out high end brand name built in the brands own country...
    Each to their own & again I'll state that this is a beautifully built bass but the price & prices of guitars lower labour cost countries are & have been too pricey in the last 5 years or more...
    So do your homework & think first before you buy any instrument whether it's from an online store or a local high street guitar store as you will be the one stuck with this guita... So it pays for you to spend as much time putting in research about the instrument your thinking of buying as many of them are quite pricey now if you want a really good one but won't break the bank in the process...
