I just put 5581's into my '64 Super Reverb and they are fabulous! Current (pun intended) versions are a little less powerful than the 6L6's. My brother's music store rented a brand new silver face Super Reverb to BB King for his early '70s Tallahassee (FSU) show, and it sounded fabulous! In the early '70s, we would buy Gibson humbucking (the PROPER name for them) pickups for $14 and retail them for $28. We are all being ripped off when we pay $200 or more for a humbucking these days. "Sound source." Super Reverb has 40 inches of sound source in a small package, AND at 2 ohms, which in my mind, means less resistance going to those speakers making it a LOUDER amp. Super Reverbs benefit from a bit of duct tape in the center of the speaker, applied to the inside of the grill cloth. They also like SoZo Silver Mica capacitors in the treble slots to sweeten up that bright treble. I always say that an amp is half of your act.
I can imagine. Wonderful. But quite loud and big and heavy, which is why I’ve never taken advantage of the several opportunities I’ve had to acquire a good one.
I dragged one around from 1964 through around 1995, I guess. Still have it. Just had the JUNK caps, etc. that it acquired over the years, replaced with Blue and Yellow SoZos, put in some 5881's, SoZo Silver Micas, new reverb cables and a few reverb circuit part changes ... WOW! It's a Super Reverb again!! And most ANY Fender amp will improve when you hit the front end with a compressor, boosted overdrive pedal or a straight out boost pedal.
Yeh! You have to be a real man to hoist one of those out of a car trunk and up steps and stairs four times a night! Early on at age 17, the Super Reverb I had weighed half of what I weighed! Today's 5881 power tubes will reduce the volume a bit.🙂@@thebobandramonshow
Enjoyed doing this!! 😊
The boys are back, a nice friday surprise
Thanks 👍🙏

I played a blackface super the other day at work. It was the best sounding amp I’ve ever played

Do we know which model Seymour Duncan’s are in the 335 style guitar? Great tone. 👍
Great tones. 👍 Are you going to post the link to the live footage of the Super Reverb?
It should be in the description…
That is much earlier live footage of Ramon through a different, silverface, Super.
@@thebobandramonshowno, it’s not there.
Amended, in description now 🙏
@@thebobandramonshow thanks. 👍
Where is the link to the silverface super reverb video?
Apologies, thought I’d done it. Rectifying now, should be live in a couple of minutes. Let me know if it works and hope you enjoy 🙏👍
Low powered vintage Tweeds please...
Shortly!
I prefer a 10 inch speaker

Well thanks a first - a comment before I’d realised the upload was even complete. Flattered and big thanks 👍
