I remember Larry merchant saying Floyd would never reach the level Oscar did only to surpass it. He have the biggest following in boxing, trends after every fight, fighters are constantly compared to him when they have a good performance, he broke all ppv records and gates, he made a billion in career earnings and still making millions doing exhibitions and he retired healthy.

@@derrellarthur4604 that was one instance when Tyson called Floyd out because he believed Floyd was out of line. After those comments he praised Floyd and said he fought sensationally against Maidana (no matter how people may feel about the fight) and Floyd’s style is almost impossible to beat. He was definitely hurt by Floyd’s words because he loved Ali but he also respects Floyd’s legacy and ability.

Floyd is the most enigmatic sports figure I’ve seen. His moves inside and outside the ring are meticulously calculated, and are masked by his boisterous Money Mayweather persona. A character he created that speaks generalities and catchphrases (“Hes a helluva fighter, “ I make smart investments “), so much so we know very little about man and how he really thinks. He is equal parts bold and mysterious at the same time.

Floyd realized being a "Good Guy" wasn't working because people wanted him to lose. Every time he beat someone, they said his opponent was too (insert excuse).
Whipped Gatti, Gatti was too old.
Whipped Canelo, Canelo was too young.
Whipped Manny, that fight should have happened years ago.
Whipped Marquez, Marquez was too small.
"Floyd doesn't get hit enough; he wins, but his fights are boring." Or "All he does is run around the ring."
Ortiz headbutted and admitted to trying to break Floyd's nose, yet they accused Floyd of fighting dirty because Ortiz got caught slipping.
Floyd had to play that role to get this money.

No matter what they say about Floyd and his fighting style. Boring or not. One thing folks can't say is that Floyd wasn't about his business. His career was a slow burn while Oscar came into his professional career already the top guy. Floyd had to believe in himself and go get the top fights. The only blemish I agree with is the fact that Floyd should've fought Pacquiao sooner. Outside of that Oscar's career in comparison to Floyd's career is close but not close enough. I think if you adjust Oscar’s PPV numbers and gates for inflation, they are probably right with Floyd’s. Oscar was doing 1 million buys when that was unheard of outside of Mike Tyson. I mean, Oscar’s most expensive PPV fights were $50 while Floyd was pushing $100 for his, and ticket prices are more expensive now. Also, social media and streaming services, as well as smartphones and the like, weren’t there for Oscar’s prime. So once he saw how much he was dominant, he wanted to be like him and he couldn’t. There is nothing likeable about Floyd outside the ring. He's got no personality, no humility. He protected himself from CTE amazingly, but can still barely talk and who knows if he can even read yet. If he was secure about himself he'd talk at his real level and sound like Gervonte Davis, but he's constantly trying to be something he's not. I can't get through a single Floyd interview. It's like listening to a child. Floyd's one of the best ever, but his style in the ring and personality outside of it will never make him a beloved figure like Pacquiao or other greats.

He fought Pac-Man at the perfect time considering all that was involved with such a mega fight. You don’t rush or miss a mega fight in an era. Floyd didn’t do either. He negotiated an unprecedented agreement that never be matched or sublimated ever again by a boxer or athlete. Totally Historic on all levels. It was perfect timing for the fight, fans and business. Again, everything has to be in place before you enter a bout of that magnitude.
