What version do you prefer? Unlined, Flannel Lined, Wool Lined?
I have the first version of this that they released (it was cheaper back then), mine has an all cotton herringbone flannel lining (new ones are poly I think? and brighter striped), its pretty warm, but I only wear it when its int low 60s or 50s. That waxed canvas ages really well, it will only continue to look better. Seems like there is some nice stitching on the front placket of this version.
The only thing I'd wish for on the lined version (not this ones) is maybe some cordaroy or something on the collar. I like huckberry's version, as it has usable pockets and is cut longer. The original trucker jacket design sometimes has no pockets and is shorter.
I don't think I'd go for wool with this jacket particularly, typically if I go wool, It has to be all wool (think weatherwool), not just a lining. Seems like some of the performance benefit of wool is lost when used with other materials.
The unlined version does have sticking in a zig ZAG pattern along the button hole side. This is reminiscent of older Type 3 style trucker jackets. The flannel and wool lined versions do not have this decorative stitching. I do agree the flannel lined version should have some corduroy lining on the cuffs and possibly the color, and have lined pockets. I do like lined pockets. But all in, these jackets are great. They fit well, wear well and wear in. I am VERY pleased with all the offerings I have gotten from FNT.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA oh I just noticed the unlined has two chest pockets, I like that look a lot. I may have to consider one now lol. I got a normal jean jacket made with old USA cone denim before they closed, so I shouldn't need another one. But hey I only have blue, so a waxed canvas will save me from the "canadian tuxedo" look.
@@jonuiuc the unlined is great! It’s more like a modern Type 3 jacket, like a Levi or any other Jean jacket. I use to wear a black off brand Jean jacket all the time because I too cannot do the “Canadian Tuxedo!” Haha. But that jacket is worn out. So this unlined FNT took its place and I wear it all the time. I love this jacket.
Your cohost stole the show.
She always does.... and I'm OK with it!
I tried this jacket in a few sizes in both the flannel and wool lined versions. I ended up getting the wool in my usual size. Very glad I went with that one.
I am strongly considering getting a wool version this winter. They seem to go on sale from time to time. I will say wearing the unlined today, with it being much less humid, the fit was much better, and it felt nice on the scooter in the warmer weather.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA The wool one is really nice and warm but can still feel a tad chilly on those below zero midwestern winter days. I wasn't sure if I should spend the extra for thrle wool version but with the slightly thicker canvas and lining I feel like it drapes on my body a looks better on me.
@@bumblefritz I think at this point... I have to get the wool version to compare to the other 2 versions. It can get pretty here in Northeastern PA in the winter. With the exception of last year, it was a very mild winter.
Huckberry sent me a wool version. I’m about to fill my full review of it in a day or two. we still have another month or two before it gets really cold here in Pennsylvania, but I wore it in a few of the very low 20° days and it worked out great for me. Even though the wool is the same size jacket, it feels like it’s cut a little bit bigger so I was able to fit a Relwen vest underneath it. combine that and the jacket, I was completely toasty, warm, being outside for several hours and about 21,22° weather.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA I'm glad it's working for you. I still love mine and I'm very glad I went with the wool version. It still isn't quite toasty enough for the coldest, dead of winter months for me here in the Minnesota but overall it does a good job.
I'm looking forward to the review!
Another difference is lined had straight front pockets vs angled
Yup. I realized that after filming this. I included that in my full review
I can’t justify buying two of basically the same jacket, if I can only get one I’d get the flannel lined. As for fit, it looks a little tight on you
It was sticking to me really bad. It was super humid yesterday when filming even my cotton t-shirt was sticking badly…. Not to mention all the beer and burgers I’ve been consuming the past few days…..I might have slightly expanded in the mid section.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA if I didn’t care about price I’d choos the wool. But, between the three I prefer the flannel for a balance between cost and performance
@@MrPinpoint007 I haven’t tried the wool. They did want to do a heavier o w this winter, not sure if they will do the wool waxed trucker or another jacket. But if I had to choose just 1, I would probably go with the flannel as it’s the most versatile. But this unlined will be great for the summer.
Are you saying the unlined version wasn't breathing well and causing the jacket to stick to you? @@jeffgrantMEDIA
@@thirstybike it was sticking to me for a few reasons.
First, the jacket does not breathe because it is a waxed jacket and they do not breathe. The wax coats the jacket for water protection. So all the pores in the Cotten are basically covered up.
1.5 Martexin is waxed on both sides to give it more water repellent properties.
2, a brand new waxed jacket has a “wet” feeling to it. So it’s a bit “sticky” if you will. Not sticky like I just touched maple syrup, more like a soft robber shoe sole…king of like a Croc.
3, with it watching the video back, if I remember correctly it was like 90 and super humid the day I got the jacket. So my skin was pretty sweaty and sticky. And even my cotton t-shirt was stuck to me.
But as it breaks in, the wax softens and the jacket becomes very comfortable to wear. And it will breath a bit over time as the wax wears in/out. Waxed goods need to be re-waxed every so often.
How tall are you?
5'9" 175. I often forget to mention that.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA i’m 5’11” and 157lbs not sure what size to get S or M
@@karimartikainen1 You may want the M for the sleeve length. At 5'9" the Medium is a good sleeve length for me. I have a little slack in it, if I wore a S, they would be too short.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA Thanks!
You look super dope but the price .... hell no I am not paying for that, good luck
You do pay a premium for made in America. All materials, and craftsmanship is done in the USA.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA for me I would wait for the jacket to go on sale like 80% off, lol, but you look awesome! You definitely make guys notice you and catch girls attention!
@@jorad4887 haha. Thanks!
